We have had [redacted] perform specific detailed painting in our homes. They provide a very descriptive estimate, excellent on time service and cleaned up leaving our home spotless. I recommend this company to all I can as they fulfilled all of our expectations. Truthfully, they exceeded our expectations. Thank you to all at EYP.

We contracted for quality paint/service and received subpar. The offer to "re-do" painting was done inadequately and owner will not respond to us. We contractd for 2 floors of our home to be painted in full (ceilings, walls, trim). The quality of paint that was chosen to be used in my house was subpar (but was presented as best quality). After visiting with a company rep and a paint rep, we were offered better paint quality. However, the "fix" provided better paint but worse painting. The paint that was used on our first paint job was clearly a low quality paint, not designed to withstand any contact or moisture at all, There are water marks all over, including behind the toilets. The paint marks with a single touch of a clean hand, and leaves streak marks after a single shower in a rarely used guest bathroom. The original remedy that was provided by the company was for me to "wipe" the walls with a damp cloth, which resulted in paint being removed from the wall. After 1 "wiping," the paint actually was removed in some areas.A company rep and a [redacted] rep visited my home and acknowledged to me and my husband that a higher quality paint could have been used, which was offered to us if we would pay the cost of the paint (indicating that the company was aware that the original paint was less than optimal). Due to a new baby and the desire to not move every piece of furniture and wall hanging in my home for a second time, we were not able to repaint the entire house at one time. However, the rooms that were repainted on the first visit do appear to have a much better paint quality as it is no longer streaking and showing every hand print. However, the company did not tape electrical outlets or other walls, leaving paint all over. They did not re-hang wall items appropriately, and the fact that we had to repaint cost us over $100 in wall murals that we had already applied after the first paint job. Additionally, the painters completely skipped one wall in our bathroom, leaving most of the bathroom "fixed" but one wall lighter and water marked (this is a wall behind a toilet, so water markings are due to the moisture that results from flushing a toilet- hardly something one would expect to cause marking). Right now, we have a house that we spent a lot of money to paint that needs a new coat of better quality paint on 75% of the walls that were painted. Additionally, the painters broke our curtain rod mounts and shower mounts such that they do not hang properly anymore). We have pictures documenting these issues and have invited the company owner to come and see for himself (again - no response). I have contacted the owner but have not recieved a response.Desired SettlementWe would like the job completed as expected, with good quality paint and quality service (e.g., appropriate taping, rehanging of wall fixtures). We would like the shower rods and curtains rods to be fixed or replaced.Business Response /[redacted]/We truly strive for a high level of customer satisfaction, and customer concerns are deeply concerning to us as well. Our original understanding was that the customer was looking for the most economical paint option, versus the highest quality which is why we suggested the use of ProMar 200 paint versus the top of the line paint which is 3 times the price per gallon. On January 6, 2014 we provided the customer with an estimate for a total of $2,827.61 which detailed the use of [redacted] paint which was suggested based on input from the Customer that they were looking for a paint "at a good price point". The estimate was accepted by the customer and work began on February 17, 2014, 5 weeks from the time of the original estimate submission, giving the customer sufficient time to research and review the paint suggested, and make any changes desired. The work was completed and paid for on February 26, 2014 after we addressed all concerns requested by the owner including some touch ups and color changes.Several weeks later, the customer contacted our Operations Manager requesting additional touch up, and the additional requested touch up work, including the repainting of a wall that appeared to have had a drink splashed onto it, was completed by our Operations Manager at that time at no additional charge. A few months later, we received a request from the customer to look at the paint due to lack of paint performance. Due to the nature of the request, we contacted a regional [redacted] Representative who met with our Operations Manager and the customer. The [redacted] representative determined that the areas of concern the customer pointed out were all due to moisture residue, behind sinks, a fish tank, a kitchen garbage can and a wall next to the bathtub where water had clearly come into direct contact with the paint. The [redacted] representative was able to take a damp cloth and wipe off the "stains" the customer was pointing out without causing any damage to the paint. Additionally, the [redacted] representative confirmed that there were no issues with the performance of the paint. In an effort to provide outstanding customer service [redacted] and Express Yourself Paint agreed to repaint the areas that were exposed to excess moisture including the hall bathroom, powder room, master bathroom, kitchen and the wall behind the fish tank. [redacted] provided the additional paint at no charge, and Express Yourself Paint offered to provide the labor at cost for a total of $240 charge to the customer, valued at $840. The additional work was completed on July 22nd, with the exception of the painting of the wall behind the fish tank at the customer's request. The customer had agreed to make the payment for the additional provided labor at cost on the day of completion. However the customer was not present upon completion of the work and never paid for the agreed upon services. We did not hear back from the customer until August 13th, at which point they requested we repaint all walls at labor cost and no charge for additional paint/materials. Still not having received payment for the additional work completed on July 22nd valued at $840, we as a company decided it best to write off the bad debt and part ways with this customer as a resolution did not seem to be possible. After the customer reached out directly to the owner of Express Yourself Paint on December 5th inquiring again for the whole house to be repainted at cost and no charge for materials, and still having received no payment for the July 22nd work, an official response was sent back to the customer from the owner of Express Yourself Paint on December 10th stating that we would not be repainting their whole house as we feel we had already gone well above and beyond what we were contracted to do. Additionally, any concerns regarding quality of paint and performance should be addressed directly with [redacted] As with any paint contractor, Express Yourself Paint cannot warranty the quality or performance of the paint itself. It's also worth noting that although ProMar 200 from [redacted] is a more affordable option it's still a highly reviewed paint and one that is often used and trusted by professional painters. Per the [redacted] site, "Professional painters have it all with ProMar(r) 200 Zero VOC Interior Latex Paint. A complete professional line that not only has zero VOCs, but is also available in four sheens and every color. All while delivering maximum productivity with outstanding durability and touch up."

They did not nail and caulk as agreed. Painted wall plates and attic access door shut. Did not finish painting. Did not caulk siding seams properly. Did not nail siding down as agreed. Did not finish painting siding in one area. Painted wall plates and a switch plate to the wall and when they were removed by me, tore some of the drywall. I repaired drywall and painted the repaired area that EYP touched up with a different shade of paint. EYP reimbursed me for paint and mini-roller but I did repair and drove 40 miles to get the matching paint. I painted the trim they missed. They took every can of paint at the end of each day, including a new gallon of black paint. I insisted they replace it and they did. EYP sent me a $50.00 Lowe's gift certificate that I accepted whereas I explained I would use it to buy more paint. I asked [redacted], the foreman, why he is doing such a lousy job and he replied that "I have nine houses to paint so I really don't care about this job". I picked up their garbage everyday, including used tissues. There were not any tissues on the ground the third day because the worker shoved them in the bushes on the side of the house. They actually did not paint behind a bush by the house but instead painted around the outline of the bush leaving the area behind the bush unpainted! I did most of the repairs and painting myself but am completely unsatisfied with the caulking and finish work on the area above the garage.I paid approximately $900.00 for the job and EYP did give me $38.00 in paint and materials along with a $50.00 Lowe's gift certificate so I am not seeking a total refund. I want to hire someone to redo the area above the garage I feel that with what they have given me I should be refunded $300.00 to get the work completed. I paid by check. This took place in May, I believe. The sales representative was [redacted] @ XXX-XXX-XXXX. My computer that has my records has problems and the exact dates, etc. are not readily available. It is being worked on and hopefully will be available soon.Desired SettlementI am seeking a partial refund of $300.00 to do the work above the garage. The balance of the work was completed by me.Business Response /[redacted]/Express Yourself Paint takes our reputation and customer service very seriously. As with most every customer we followed up after the project was completed to insure the customer had received a good experience. The customer stated there were some touch ups but if we would purchase him a gallon of paint, as a retired contractor, would rather just finish them himself. We purchased the paint as he requested.Several weeks later we received a negative review on our website from this customer stating "I would not hire Express Yourself Paint to paint my dog house" and then some. The customer had not reached back out to us but after Express Yourself Paint received this review we reached back out to the customer. We sent a representative to meet with him personally. The customer had some legitimate issues in our opinion. We made a list of those issues, sent personal back out to his home and completed the list of touch ups under the customer's direct supervision. We called the customer on the phone the day after the work was completed, giving him time to review and decide if he was now satisfied. The customer said he was satisfied, said he would not be writing anymore bad reviews and as a token of goodwill, we sent him a $100 gift card of his choosing.Four months later we receive this complaint through the Revdex.com. We are confused as to why a retired contractor, having work completed under his direct supervision, deemed the work as acceptable and thereafter never contacted about any remaining issues would make this complaint. We will not be refunding any more money to this customer as we have already met and complied with all his demands and received his approval of the work performed.Consumer Response /[redacted]/EYP never, ever contacted me to see if I was satisfied with the work. They only contacted me when I gave them a negative review on their website's survey. They should not have been surprised whereas I contacted EYP several times to complain about their workmanship and cleanliness. Not one person offered to rectify any of the problems. EYP did purchase a gallon of paint for me. The reason they did was because at the end of each day the painters took every single can of paint they did not use. Several times I advised the painters that I paid for the paint and they had no business taking it. They even took a gallon of black paint I purchased after painting 2 shutters. Ninety-five percent was left. I insisted they return it and finally the foreman gave me a new gallon. They also took the white trim paint and leftover interior paint. I complained that EYP painted over the wall plates which left them stuck to the wall with paint on the wall plates. When the wall plates were removed they pulled off the paint and drywall. I repaired the wall and EYP touched up the wall. However they used the wrong paint and there was a one foot area around the plates that was a different color. I asked the foreman where the gallon of new paint was and again he had no idea. I asked him why he was doing such a bad job. He stated "I have nine houses to paint and I don't care about this job". I spoke with EYP and asked them to replace the missing paint and as I stated, they did. I drove the 44 miles to Sherwin Williams to secure the paint. Line 1 on the contract stated that the wall plates are to be removed when the wall is painted. I also noted that EYP painted 7 of the 8 spindles in the hallway. EYP did offer to send me a $100.00 Lowes gift card. I agreed whereas Lowes now carries Sherwin Williams paint so I thought I would use the card to replace the paint EYP took. EYP finally sent me the card after I contacted them 4 times over a 6 week period. Although they claim to have sent me a $100.00 card, it was for $50.00. EYP never, ever offered to resolve any of the problems. EYP's claim they sent a representative to meet with me is completely untrue unless EYP is referring to the foreman that touched up around the wall plates with the wrong paint. EYP never contacted me in any way, shape or form. I always contacted them. I spoke with 3 different people at EYP. The last conversation that we had, I advised EYP that the painters never painted behind the bush in the front of the house. There was an outline of the bush on the siding. He laughed in amazement but never offered to correct the situation. I decided to register the complaint after finding the unpainted siding behind the bush, seeing the siding that was not nailed, the shoddy caulking job, and me having to pickup their garbage for the third time. There are several spots in the hallway I repaired myself and some areas remain unpainted. I felt that enough is enough. There is no reason for a customer to accept an inferior and shoddy project! I felt that EYP took advantage of my cooperative attitude. EYP should not be surprised that I registered a complaint. We had at least 10 conversations where I registered my complaints. I spoke with 3 different people at EYP. Their claim that I supervised the job is untrue. The reason a person hires a contractor is so they do not have to do the work themselves. The reason I hired them is that I am disabled and could not do the work myself. I remain insistent that EYP reimburses me $300.00 to allow me to hire a contractor to nail the siding as originally agreed, redo the caulking and touch up the siding. With EYP's claim that I supervised the job, it sounds as though EYP requires the customer to be responsible for the quality of their work! Final Business Response /[redacted]/I feel I have already addressed this situation in its entirety in the first response. We take customer satisfaction seriously. This is why we are the highest rated interior paint contractor in the Triangle. Since this occurred 5 months ago, the customer's and each EYP personnel's time lines and details all vary. The one consistent message I receive from the Sales Person, Marketing Manager and Operations Manager is, in each of their last conversation with the customer, he stated all was fine and did not want anything else from EYP.4 months expired, after the last communications and the customer never communicated another problem to anyone at EYP. I am the primary owner of EYP and am writing this response. My name, number and position is on the estimate provided to the customer and I have not been contacted nor at any time has the customer requested to speak to me. If the customer was not satisfied, contacting me would have been the next logical step. I am more than willing to schedule time to look at the customer's issues. If they are valid, I will be more than happy to have them rectified. [redacted]
