I had the worst experience with the billing department of this practice. My husband and I visited the office in September 2013. I was told by the receiptionist during the visit that we would only be responsible for our $50 co-pay each and our insurance would cover the rest, including the refraction exam. We paid our $100 co-pay and our insurance subsequently covered the rest. We received a 0 balance statement from Eye Associates in October, 2013.

Nearly a year later (in August of 2014), we received another bill from Eye Associates for the same visit, stating that my husband and I each owed an additional $27.50 because Eye Associates gave the insurance company back the refraction portion of the payment. I then wrote a letter back to them disputing this charge in September 2014. I also called the billing department and was treated rudely. They basically told me that it was solely my problem and I needed to get the money back from the insurance comapny through repealing. The last bill that I received from Eye Associates even stated that they would turn the matter to the collection agency. That was when I wrote a second letter (in November 2014) and enclosed the original "0 account balance statement" that they sent me in October 2013. No one from the practice ever responded to my repeated letters and phone calls.

My insurance company eventually sent me a letter in December 2014 stating that they had paid Eye Associates the $27.50 because of my appeal. But since I never received a payment confirmation from Eye Associates, I decided to call its billing dearptment this morning. The billing rep told me that they don't have time to call patients or issue payment confirmation/0 balance statement, even after a billing dispute and repeated letter writing. Again, the billing rep was extremely rude and arrogant. She said they never bothered to send payment confirmation and asserted that no other medcail practices do that. (I actually just receieved one from another practice after paying my co-pay last week.) I told her I received one from Eye Associates in October 2013 (enclosed in my 2nd letter sent in November 2014). Since everyone I spoke to in the Billing department had been rude and Eye's Associate's online motto was "Commitment to Excellence in Patient Care", I asked her who the billing manager was and she said she was the billing manager. That explained why everyone in the department was rude. It is the example set by the person in charge and naturally evolved ino the office culture it is today.

It's a shame that we do like Dr. [redacted]. But the billing staff left a lot to be desired. And their online motto "Commitment to Excellence in Patient Care" seems like a joke for its billing service.
