Eye Clinic of Racine

Billing staff were unethical and unprofessional. First when I called to research a bill. I was told "I don't know", with no offer to find out. When I spoke to the billing manger, I was told that I had cataracts and that the doctor would not tell me if I did. I consider this unethical for a billing person to inform me of a medical condition. The doctor did not tell me I had cataracts. I did not complain of any eye problems that would lead him to suspect that I did. I was billed $149 for the exam and an additional $50 for the cataract exam. Two doctors informed me that the usual and customary fee for the screening exam should include a cataract screening. I did not receive an in-depth exam for cataracts.

Secondly, eye glass staff were either incompetent or deceptive. Twice my lenses were wrong. The prescription was very off the first time and possibly the lenses were damaged. Staff should have known this, they examined the lenses in depth. I had a second opinion which cost $100 and was told the second pair of lenses were damaged. Nor was I fitted by the eye glass staff for my glasses the second time. They were put on my face and removed immediately. In addition, staff tried to "sell" me anti-glare lenses by stating I had them on my current prescription. Two other eye glass professionals told me I did not have anti-glare lenses.

Thirdly, an exam assistant attempted to intimidate me. After I said I would only speak to the doctor now for a refund, for the second damaged lenses. He stated in harsh and harassing tone, "if you sit in my chair by State law I have to examine you." I continued to refuse.

The experience with this clinic was horrible. I will not return there.

However, I did appreciate the doctor's professionalism and help.
