Eye Clinic Of Wisconsin, S.C. Reviews (3)

This business is awful!! They told us they took our insurance but then coded it as such so our insurance would not pay for it. Then we were making monthly payments on our bill and missed ONE payment last January and they sent us to collections! I was disgusted by the way they treated me on the phone, the way the doctor treated my children and the cost is unreal. I will never go back to this company and neither will any of my family.

I made an appointment for 3:30 p.m. I arrived on time. At 3:45 I asked the receptionist for the time and told her I had a 3:30 appointment. She told me that late afternoon appointments get backed up. She asked me if I wanted to reschedule. I told her I wanted to be seen at my appointment time and I was leaving.
Obviously, they're aware that they get backed up and schedule people anyway. I made the appointment for their convenience, on their calendar and at a time that their calendar showed as open. I drove to their place of business and wasted my time. Bye the way, there were quite a few people their ahead of me that hadn't been seen yet either.
Absolutely no regard for other people's time. Not even a heads up that my appointment time was, basically, invalid and I'd be waiting.

Review: I went to the Eye Clinic of Wisconsin in August for my annual routine eye exam. On September 15, 2015 I received a bill in the mail in the amount of $310.00. I called Judy in the insurance department and she told me that my insurance did not cover the exam. She asked if this should have been run though as vision. I told her I did not know this insurance is new for me. I called my insurance provider United Health Care. I was told the billing should have been run through as United Health Care Spectera. I called back Judy at the Eye Clinic of WI. She said she would authorize the billing. Then she said that she could not because I was seen by an MD instead of an optometrist. I asked her why? She said that she did not know, that was how the appointment was made. When I called to schedule the appointment I made it very clear this was for an annual exam. What I arrived for my appointment I gave the clerk the only insurance card from United Health Care that I have and she made a copy.Desired Settlement: Charge me only what the charge is for routine exam covered by my insurance United Health Care Spectera.

Response:

In response to this patient's complaint: The patient did not indicate he wanted/needed a specific doctor when making the appointment. When asked what insurance would be used for the appointment, UHC was the type given. Upon registering on the date of the appointment, the patient gave the receptionist his UHC card for insurance. He also completed an exam type form asking him to identify if he wanted his medical insurance billed or if there was a vision plan. The patient indicated he wanted his medical insurance billed for a routine exam. We were not made aware that the patient wanted to use any vision plan for his appointment. The Eye Clinic participates with Spectera Vision plan but ONLY with our Optometrists. The patient did seen an MD for his exam so we were not able to resubmit his visit to Spectera after the exam had already been done. Patients with vision plan benefits really need to know who they are allowed to see for providers and must notify the provider's office of that insurance at the time of scheduling their appointment. Ultimately, it is the patient's responsibility to know their insurance benefits. The Eye Clinic is happy to assist patients with insurance questions at any time. In this situation, we were not made aware of the vision plan benefits prior to the patient's exam so we were unable to send the charges to this plan for him.
