My name is *** As power of attorney for my mother, I am registering this complaint on behalf of my mother, ***. She called Eye Cooperative per advertisement for FREE eyeglasses. Was told there would be a $20 registration fee. She gave her debit card # over the phone. Then was told there would be an additional $58 fee. In reviewing her most recent bank statement, there has been another draft of $116.14, made on 10/18/17. My concern now is this business will continue to take drafts out of her bank account. I have been unsuccessful in making contact with anyone with Eye Cooperative. The telephone number on the bank statement as well as online is XXX-XXX-XXXX. It is not right to advertise FREE, then $20, then another $58, and then take $116.14 out of her bank account.

We are a non profit that help those in need to get a basic pair of eyeglasses. We work primarily with Department of Social Services, United Way, His House and other outreach programs. There is a very high demand for our services so it is challenging to reach us by phone. You can always reach us by email ***@gmail.com or on our contact us page.
All of our clients must register in order to participate in the program. There is a non refundable fee of $20.
Once you have paid the registration fee, we receive an approval with your what you must pay on a sliding scale.
Your mother was approved for lined bifocals for $58 however she requested the "no lined bifocals"(progressives) which are available at an additional cost. She was charged $116.14 for frame and lenses.
We advertise that we help with the cost of eyeglasses. The progressive lenses that Mrs. Clark requested are very expensive and retail cost approximately $300.
Our goal is to help those in need but we make additional features available for additional cost. We have to pay the lab for the additions, so we must ask our clients to pay for their "wants".
Mrs. Clark paid $20 for her registration fee and $116.14 for her eyeglasses. She received the glasses.
I'm glad you requested an explanation because this will help other clients in the future. Due to the nature of our services, there are no refunds, exchanges or warranties.
