does someone actually know what they are doing?
Got a notice of a Toll violation ( $3.00) Violation # 0014927717-1 on 7/7/23.
well I sent them a print out from my E Z Pass account showing that the toll was paid electronically from my account as always. Plain a simple. I was right, they were not.
NOW I file the appeal with full documentation and they send me another wonderful form letter saying Appeal Denied because: get this
Total payment due. Transaction is over60 days old unable to be taken from your E Z PAY account.
So. They did not say that the toll was not paid...of course it was they just want me to now pay $53.00 due to their incompetence. Be that sounds like a great solution. Does anyone have a brain that works in that Center? I think not.
How sad this system is that they simply ROB anyone / anytime without recourse.
Welcome to DELAWARE!

$150 in penalties and late fees.
I live in Philadelphia and visited family and friends in June. I owed $3.50 in tolls for which I received a notice. I always pay my Toll By Plate bills when received but as I’m taking care of multiple rescues, have multiple jobs (3) and an getting married I simply forgot to pay on time. I received a notice this week saying I now owe $153.50 because I was late.
I called customer service and the person I spoke to couldn’t care less. She made me list the fees then simply confirmed them. I told her my situation. She said I could appeal but would definitely be denied without a reason. I guess working 24/7 to keep myself afloat isn’t a good reason. I then said I’d have to make payments as I don’t have it. She said since it’s expected in full I’d be charged more fees and penalties for being late.
Is this really how Delaware, President Biden’s home state, treats folks who are struggling?

Extorting money from me
On about January 24, 2021, I received a citation toll violation that occurred on January 31, 2020. The toll was $4.00 but a civil charge was an additional $25. I immediately contacted customer service at ezpassmd .com with my concern. I received a reply saying someone will be in contact with me at which no one did so I assumed they just charged my EZ Pass.
On June 4, 2021, I received a court appearance for that toll violation. I emailed EZ Pass again and received a reply from Ashley CSR 88-321-6824, saying my transponder was not fixed on my windshield. My transponder was and is attached to my windshield and I've never had any issues when I'm traveling for military obligations. Ashley insists I pay the $29 or go to court. I reside 66 miles and out of the state of the court building. They refuse to charge my EZ Pass. They are extorting money from me. They have my transponder number. I have emailed them screenshots of my vehicle info with the registration number and the rest of the toll transactions. They are extorting money from me and other people who live outside of the state in hopes they will pay the extra $25 for the $4 toll.

They do not want to resolve this but want to extort money.

Here are the email interactions.

Hello,
I would be happy to assist this with you today. I do see that the status is at a Court Hearing level, but from my understanding if you can make a payment of $29.00 dollar's you will not have to go to Court. Also the reason for the charge was because the Transponder was not mounted to your windshield. To make the payment you can use this link here https://csc.driveezmd.com/pay-tolls. Once you click on the link then you will click on Find My Tolls, put in the State, License Plate number and your Zip code. Then you will be able to make the payment. Please if you have any question you can always call our Customer Information Center at 888-321-6824. Thank you for contacting DriveEZMD. I hope you have a nice day. Kind Regards,
Ashley
Mine
Good morning,
I had the transponder in front of my car, under the windshield. I've never had any issue with this. I am in the military and use it all the time.
My transponder is G4*01900731305. Why would I pay a penalty fee of $25 when I have EZ pass? This is not right and it's extorting money from me. I reside over 66 miles from this court building. My toll was $4. I'll pay the $4. Why can't my transponder be charged?

Are these violations a scam? I keep getting violation notices that are NOT correct.
I keep getting "Notice of Toll Violation" letters, saying that I went through the toll without paying. However, I have an E-ZPass Account and my E-ZPass transponder works. When I go through the toll, the transponder DOES register and I do pay. I keep appealing and sending in my E-ZPass Account statements that show that I am in fact paying the toll. I can match up the date, time (down to the second) and toll amount exactly. So, I keep going through the whole appeal process, getting a letter back from DoT saying that I am in fact correct and don't need to pay it again, and then a few weeks later I get ANOTHER violation letter for a different date and time. I understand if this mistake happens once, but it KEEPS happening. I'm starting to think it's some type of scam! I know DoT's are hurting for money because people are traveling less and therefore less toll money is coming in, but FOR THE LOVE OF GOD please stop bothering me. It's infuriating.

transponder didn't register, filled out the paperwork and sent a copy of our account summary. Was denied anyway. Total abuse of power.

I am writing this in regard to an issue that I have been experiencing regarding Toll Plazas in the State of Delaware and I am wondering how many others are experiencing the same thing, this needs to be investigated! In the past two years, toll plazas in the state of Delaware have continually missed my Ezpass tag every time I have traveled throughout the state. Although this has been random, it consistantly happens and appears to only occur within the state of Delaware. My travel from the state of Virginia to New York and back always results in one of the tolls in the state of Delaware not picking up on my EzPass. This issue is, the state of Delaware never accepts the fact that I have Ezpass even when I fill in that information onto the Violation Form received from the state. This resulting in exorbitant fines levied against me in the form of a 25.00 dollar administration fee, 10.00 Ambulance Co. Fund fee, a Combat Violent Crimes 15.00 fee and numerous other penalties. So in essence a .50 cent toll is now costing 88.00 dollars. The reason I am bringing this to this government agencies attention is because I feel this is an unethical misuse and abuse of people traveling through the state. How many other victims have been experiencing this? I feel someone within the federal government should investigate this policy of the state of Delaware by which it is extorting money from innocent travelers passing through its state. Why are the toll booths not picking up Ezpass? Why are toll booths that have Ezpass lanes having those lanes closed and cash lanes not accepting Ezpass. In total I probably have paid in tolls and additional costs/fines close to 1,000 dollars what can be done about this, what options does a person have?

I have a toll violation of $4 because the EZpass transponder didn't register with the toll booth. My account was forwarded to collection even though I sent the appeal. Now I am hit with a $91 Adminstrative fees for a $4 toll. I sent a letter of my account on that same day showing it was in good standing, EZpass registering just fine before and after the alleged toll violation and my EZpass statement indicating my plates are registered on my EZpass account since day 1. EZpass is refusing to deduct the toll owed as it should be and insisting on exerting their predatory practice of exaggerated Adminstrative fees through collection agency. I'd like to take them to court as I will not succumb to this kind of intentional fraud. Plz advice #DEDot #EZpass #EZpassFraud #EZpassCollection #EZPassRipOff citation 7079946

Review: I purchased 2 transponders in October 2013 and made a deposit of $25.00 to the account for a total of $55.00. I provided my checking account information for the purchase. On September 23, 2014, EZPass of Delaware used the bank information from my purchase, without my authorization, and submitted an unauthorized check to "replenish" my account in the amount of $25.00. This bank account no longer exists. EZPass of Delaware sent me a letter charging me a returned check fee to my account for $25.00. In addition, the bank has issued me a charge of $35.00 for "writing" a check on a closed account. I am unable to dispute the charge and the fee with the bank because the charge was not paid. The bank stated that EZPass must take responsibility for the $35.00 fee because it was their mistake.Desired Settlement: I would like the $25.00 returned check fee credited to my account. I would also like for EZPass of Delaware to take responsibility for the $35.00 fee from the bank by issuing a $35.00 cash refund to submit to the bank and an apology letter to file with the bank in order to avoid any negative repercussions to myself.

Review: I received an E-Z pass violation notice via mail. The notice shows a picture of my car from behind with the license plate and mentions that I did not pay toll. however, I am very sure that I have paid all tolls during that trip. I had asked E-Z pass customer care associate to show additional information from their end that will help me validate that the violation is accurate and not a system generated incorrect notice. The associate and their supervisor refused to provide any additional detail that will show proof that I had violated the tool by passing through an E-Z pass lane without paying any toll.

If the business is not able to provide any evidence of violation and only shows a picture of my car's license plate, I cannot accept that as accurate. I am very positive that I had paid all tolls and did not violate.

My complaint against against E-Z pass company is that they are not providing adequate evidence to support their toll voilation and I believe my citation is incorrect.Desired Settlement: Refund the amount of toll $4 and administration fee of $25 paid.

Response:

We are in receipt of [redacted]'s concerns regarding the State of Delaware E-ZPass system and his State of Delaware toll violation notices.

Our records indicate that [redacted] received a violation notice for Virginia license plate [redacted] on March 11, 2014 for failure to pay the toll when proceeding through our Toll Plaza 10 in Lane 40. [redacted] indicates that he is sure that he paid the toll; however, Lane 40 at Plaza 10 is an Express Lane and accepts only Electronic Toll Collections through a valid E-ZPass transponder. Our records do not indicate that he had a transponder in his vehicle or that it did not read. Attached is a copy of the information regarding his vehicle at the time of the violation and under Auth/Tag there is no indication of a transponder being in the vehicle or being read.

On April 11, 2014 an appeal to eliminate the fees was processed and denied due to this being a second offense. The first occurred September 4, 2013 at the same Plaza in the same lane. A denial letter was sent to [redacted] along with another copy of the violation. On April 22, 2014 he again contacted us and our Customer Service Representative attempted multiple times to explain to [redacted] that the violation was generated when he went through the Express Lane which has no toll booth in which to pay the toll. He requested to speak with a supervisor and the call was escalated.

On May 8, 2014 the toll of $4.00 and the Administrative Fee of $25.00 were paid via credit card. In [redacted]'s complaint he is requesting a refund of this money. No refund is due.

Review: My family has had ezpass for years. It recently did not read when going through a toll booth. I appealed the violation with the correct transponder information, but it was rejected because I filled out the appeal. According to ezpass, since my name isn't on the account, the appeal was rejected. When I called the number to sort it out, I was told that since they couldn't verify that I had the unit in my car, I would need to pay the fine. The problem is, that this happened on the way BACK from a trip, so it read my transponder on the way out, and on one of the two tolls on the way back. However, according to ezpass, the transponder hasn't been used since 2010. I have been forced to pay a fine for a violation that I did not commit.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund of the amount I was fined.

Review: The credit card that I had been using for EZPASS stopped paying because they thought it was fraudulent charges. I had no idea that this was the case, as for the past 2 years there were no issues. While traveling in June 2014 to NY from VA on I-95, I used the EZ pass lanes, because I thought EZPASS was still working. Once I reached NY, where there were no thru lanes, I finally saw the sign that said my account was deactivated, on the return trip I used cash. Within two weeks, I got a collection notice from Maryland for the tolls, which I was happy to pay since I owed them, but I never received any other letters until DEC 2014 from collection agencies from NJ and DE stating that the states had attempted to notify me but I didn't respond, which wasn't the case.Desired Settlement: I want to pay my tolls, without a collection fee. These states know I am a member of EZPASS, they know my address, so they should have: Number one, told me my credit card wasn't working for MONTHS, and number two, Sent me a bill for my tolls. I will pay what is owed, that is the law, but they didn't even try to contact me.

We are in receipt of a complaint that you filed with the Revdex.com Serving Delaware. Unfortunately, Iam unable to research your complaint as no information regarding Violation Number or license plate number was provided. If you will provide me with this information, Iwill research the situation. In your compla int, you indicated that you received letters from collection agencies from both Delaware and New Jersey. Each E-ZPass agency is a separate entity, and although the transponder reads and works in conjunction with all of the E ZPass agencies, your personal and financial information are only available to the agency with which you purchased the transponder. Other agencies have no way of knowing whether or not your credit card is valid or if your account is in good standing.Again,if you will provide me with the information requested, I will move forward with my research

Review: I was having my car registration renewed in 2012. I learned that I had outstanding EZpass toll violations that were causing my car registration to be suspended. I immediately went to the Dover Ez pass office to see what the problem was. I have been a customer of EZ pass for over 8 years! I was told that there were unpaid violations. I asked how could this be when I have been a customer for such a long time and I always replenish my account.. Even in times where I did not have enough on my account,, it would simply over extend my account and I always paid it. Well I was told by the representative at EZ pass that my car license plate was not listed on my account so they could not reconcile the car with my account. I was told if the car was listed under my account that they would have just reconciled whatever the toll was to my account. Well here comes the issue. I was told to make a payment plan to pay off almost $1300 in violations in order to get my registration released from suspension. She toldme to make a payment of $91.00 and that would restore my registration for DMV and that they would reconcile the tolls to my account. I said no problem, they set me up on an agreement to pay what I thought was the outstanding TOLL'S that would be attached to my ez pass account. That did not happen. I have been going on for three years and I hapend to call them about another issue because my EZ pass transponder was not picking up the tolls correctly. I asked if there were any issues on my account. I was told no that my account was in good standing. they explained that the reason my transponder was not picking up at the toll booth was because I had my GPS on or my satelite radio. Well this is another issue all together!!! Now they are saying that these things interfere with the transponder being read at the tolls which will cause violations!!! So then she tells me that there is some violations for me in collections from 2012 in the amount of $2800!!!!!! I flipped my lid! She said well you had a payment arrangment and did not pay. I told her that they agreed to take off the violations and attach the toll amounts onto my account because it was a simple error of the car not being recognized by the account. Well needless to say they have amnesia and said that the form that I signed was for a payment arrangement with the violations. this has been very frustrating and they are scamming people. I am contacting the Attorney Generals office to bring this to the forefront. Consumers beware! This EZ pass transponders may seem convenient but they are a way to scam you. These places need money for highways and they are scamming the public with these bogus fees to get them. I do not have a problem paying the tolls that are owed but I am not going to pay all of these trumped up charges.Desired Settlement: I will gladly submit payment for any tolls that are due minus these out rages fines and violations. I feel as if I was lied to by the EZ pass office when they told me that the agreement I was signing was in good faith for me paying down what was owed until they were able to reconcile my cars with my account, that they would add the outstanding tolls to my ez pass account and that I would pay them. The representative clearly said for me to update my account online with all of my cars and this would not happen again. I will gladly submit payment for the tolls that are owed with proof .

We are in receipt of Mr. [redacted] concerns regarding our billing or collection issues. Our records indicate that Mr. [redacted] is listed as the second owner on the vehicle with Delaware license plate [redacted], with Lucia [redacted] being listed as the first owner. Our records also indicate that Mr.[redacted] is listed as the account holder of Delaware E-ZPass account [redacted]Our records indicate that on March 30, 2012, the customer contacted Delaware E-ZPass regarding a Registration Hold that had been placed on license plate #[redacted] by the State of Delaware, due to unpaid toll violations. A hold placed on the license plate renders the owner unable to register the vehicle. Multiple attempts to contact the owners of the vehicle regarding the toll violations had failed to yield a response; therefore a Registration Hold was initiated. In order for the Registration Hold to be released, the owners must either pay in full the violations in question or enter into an Installment Agreement, whereby an initial payment is to be made, followed by 10 equal monthly insta llment payments. Failure to adhere to the Installment Agreement results in additional penalties, voids all offers to reduce any violation fees and provides Delaware E-ZPass the right to cancel the agreement if the agreed upon terms are not met. There were a total of 22 violations related to the Installment Agreement, totaling $585.00 in tolls and administrative fees. A minimum initial payment of $90.50 was required, with 10 monthly payments of $49.45 required after that beginning on 4/30/12. The Installment Agreement requirements were explained in full to Mr. [redacted] and he signed the Installment Agreement on 3/30/12 and made an initial payment of $91.00. For your convenience, a copy of the signed agreement is attached. No further installment payments were made toward these violations despite repeated attempts to reach the owners of the vehicle. On 3/1/13, the Installment Agreement was voided as outlined in the initial documents signed by Mr. [redacted] and the additional penalties were processed. Each time a customer who makes manual payments to their account has their account balance fall below $10.00 a Negative Balance letter is generated and sent to the e-mail address listed on the account. Each time the account becomes negative, a Negative Balance letter is also generated and sent via e-mail. A low balance letter was sent to thecustomer on 3/9/15 and negative balance letter was sent on 3/12/15. On 3/19/15, Ms. [redacted], who is listed as the first owner on the vehicle, contacted Delaware E-ZPass to check on her account and was advised that it was negative. When a customer has a negative account, standard procedure is to research the violation database to check for violations. At this time the customer was advised of the violations related to license plate #[redacted]. The customer inquired about setting up a payment plan and was advised that this could not be done due to the default on the previous installment agreementViolations which are not paid by the due date or are not on an Installment Agreement are forwarded to our collection agency. Currently there are 45 violations for a total of $2,625.50 for Delaware license plate [redacted] with our collection agency.

Response:

Review: I received an EZ Pass toll violation notice in April 2014. The toll due was $4.00 and the administrative fee was an additional $25.00. I immediately responded with payment of the $4.00 toll, and explained that my EZ Pass transponder was not read as I passed through the toll plaza. The Department of Transportation cashed my $4.00 payment and mailed me a second notice on for the $25 still due. I appealed to them again in a letter in which I cited research in CBS Consumer Reports Delware Consumer Affairs and about the frequent errors with EZ Pass, especially when used interstate. I also pointed out their current "F" rating with the Revdex.com for the frequent complaints they receive about their practices of billing large fees for errors in their own recording system. In response to this, I received a third notice for payment of the $25 administrative fee and a letter that threatens collections activities if it is not paid. I believe that my immediate payment of the toll due was fair and reasonable, but I have a problem paying the additional fee they've imposed on top of this for something I do not feel is an error on my part. Until EZ Pass can prove that they are not making these errors (it is well documented in research that they are), I don't see how they can force payment of "administrative fees" on a flawed system.Desired Settlement: I want the $25 outstanding fee waived, as I've requested now in three separate appeal attempts to Delaware DOT.

Response:

We are in receipt of [redacted]'s concerns regarding his State of Delaware toll violation notice.

Our records indicate that [redacted] had a violation notice [redacted] which occurred on April 16, 2014. On May 9, 2014, check# 1408 in the amount of $4.00 was presented to us and posted to the violation. Our violation notice clearly indicates that if a violator is an E-ZPass Account Holder from a Toll Authority other than Delaware, then an E-ZPass Account Activity Statement showing the account had a positive balance on 4/16/14 must be enclosed. A valid statement was not enclosed with the payment, nor with any additional correspondence. A valid statement was requested of [redacted] in the initial violation and in two additional letters, but was not provided.

Our records also indicate that Transponder [redacted], which is a transponder issued by [redacted], was read

as [redacted] passed through our Toll Plaza #10, Lane #41. Although, the transponder was read, the account would not allow us to deduct the toll in the amount of $4.00 from it. Normally, this would indicate that there were not sufficient funds on the account to allow the deduction or that it is a transponder designated for use only on a particular toll road or bridge, such as the [redacted].

Attached please find a copy of the original violation, our response to his payment and request for a statement, his response,an additional request for a statement and information indicating that the transponder was read. Each time an appeal is received a new Violation is generated with a new response date, providing the customer additional time to provided the requested information.
