Ms. Betts,

I am writing to...

let you know that we have regained possession of the ring in question. It was not repaired, however that was not the primary reason for the complaint filed. Also, this was the third time the ring was brought in for repair, but again, it was not the focus of our complaint.

On Monday, November 10, we contacted several other entities, (legal & otherwise) in an effort to get the ring back, one of which was [redacted]. That afternoon, they came out to interview us and get more detailed information. When we told them our story, they decided to put it on the 6:00pm news that same evening. Apparently, they received tremendous feedback because they sent a crew out to do a follow-up story on Wednesday, November 12.

On Wednesday, November 12, we were out running errands and decided to stop by the [redacted] near Fabulous Jewelry in Wethersfield. When we got there, we saw a [redacted] van there. We pulled up to the van and opened the window and the reporter knew who we were. She said she was doing the follow-up story mentioned above because of the flood of calls that came into their newsroom after the story aired on Monday.

At that time, the reporter stated the owner was in the store. So we thanked her and parked. I rang the bell, and at first, nobody answered, so we went to the dollar store and shopped. After we were done shopping, we went back and rang the bell again, as well as knocked on the window. I then saw a head pop out from the back. It was the owner, and he came out. At that time I politely asked for the ring, (at which time he had the audacity to say, "but it's not done yet!!!!). Anyway, he went back in, got the ring and we were basically done with the whole situation. I then called [redacted] to let them know the ring was back in our possession, and they then ran an update. of our situation. [redacted] verified with other customers and added to the story that the store still has other jewelry & money owed to them, but that is up to those customers to contact you.

I have no doubt that the pressure put on by all entities involved, including your organization, helped us get the ring back, and we greatly appreciate it.

Thank you,
[redacted]

Review: On Tuesday, October 21, 2014, we dropped off a family birthstone ring for repair that has been handed down for generations. At the time, we told the owner of the jewelry shop (Fabulous Jewelry), that this is the third time we've had to bring the ring back to replace the same stone that kept falling out (November Birthstone *Yellow Topaz or Citrine*). At that time, rather than simply repairing it for free, the owner quoted us $15 (instead of $20), and told us he did not have the correct size of that type of stone in the store at that time. He wrote us a yellow pickup slip and told us to call back the following Thursday (Oct. 30), because he normally goes to New York City on Wednesdays to purchase new stones.

On Thursday, October 30, 2014, we called back, but the owner told us he did not have a chance to go to New York that Wednesday. He then told us to call back the following Thursday (Nov. 6) to check on the status of the ring.

On Thursday, November 6, 2014, we called back, but got a recording saying, "Hello, we're not available right now, please call again, thank you for your call", at which time the line disconnects, without allowing us to leave a message. It was later in the day, so at that time the assumption was that the store had closed for the evening.

On Saturday, November 8, 2014, I stopped by the store at around 1:00pm to check on or simply pick the ring back up, but the store was closed. There was a yellow notice taped to the door stating that the Sales Tax Permit has been Suspended & No Sales Can Be Transacted. The note on the door had an effective date of October 29, 2014 and as stated above, we called on October 30, and was told to by the owner to call back the following week. Also, there was no forwarding contact information for us to call anyone to retrieve our property.Desired Settlement: We simply want the family birthstone ring that has been handed down for generations, back in our possession, as well as an explanation as to why we weren't afforded an opportunity to retrieve the ring once the owner clearly knew he was going out of business. As a matter of fact, we called a day after they received the suspension notice; they should have notified us at that time to retrieve the ring. We also require an apology.
