Fairfield Landscaping

Review: I have an issue with the work performed by, Fairfield Landscaping [redacted], PA [redacted] as related to the contracted installation of a turf grass yard, specifically as written, leveling, final grading, rock picking and grass seeding of my property.

The results of the work performed thus far are not aligned with what was committed to me on several occasions I would receive by choosing this company. My decision to contract Fairfield Landscaping was based primarily on Revdex.com rating, (A+) 27 years in business, work 100% guaranteed as advertised on their web site and the business stationary I was provided. This was a selling point in a face to face discussion of the scope of work being contracted. I stressed that my yard was important and that I expected “golf course” quality. I was assured of this, as it happens Farifield Landscaping has installed turf at a local golf course and was a reference to the quality of their work.

Currently there are areas of the yard, primarily in the front of the house that are extremely rough, not leveled, and still lying with numerous rocks in plain view. Of particular concern, is the swale located directly next to Belmont Road. This area clearly was not graded, rock picked, and I contest seeded with turf grass at all.

Another concerning area is with the work completed on the second attempt to final grade, burying the roof drain discharge across the back of the house. Turf is not establishing along this area on top of the pipe. In some of these areas the fabric installed is visible on top of the ground or if covered, it is with less than an inch of soil. One attempt to address this by Fairfield Landscaping when I communicated my concern, was to simply cut out sections of the fabric and spread another thin layer of dirt on top of the crushed stones that lay along the drain pipe. It is not clear to me how turf grass will flourish in that condition, especially in times of low moisture conditions. In fact nothing, not even weeds are growing in this area as it will not sustain plant life with no soil to speak of, thus no moisture.

Certainly not the least of my concerns is the overall appearance of the yard. Many times I was informed that all of the grass has not germinated. Although this may be factual, I do not understand why there are spots that appear not to have been seeded at all. It is clear in the areas I speak of that grass has or is in the process of germinating, yet some spots are nothing at all but weeds. Other areas, most predominately in the front of the house, have what appears to be a completely different ground cover that looks nothing like the turf grass I see in other parts of the project. Notes have been left at the house indicating that weed control has been applied on more than one occasion however weeds continue to be the predominate vegetation.

I also have had issue with the condition my property has been left, following work by Fairfield Landscaping. Although I find this to be unprofessional, it is outside the scope of service contracted.

It has never been my intention to obtain a product or service that I did not pay for. I believe that is easily substantiated in that I paid over half of the total agreed price, prior to work commencement. I then paid in full despite the reservations I shared with the owners at the time; in my view the job was not finished. I clearly recall repeatedly being assured that I had nothing to worry about, the work was 100% guaranteed until I was satisfied. Obviously I am not yet satisfied that I have received the service and end product that I was sold and paid for.Desired Settlement: I prefer that the work contracted for $10,000.00 and paid in full, be completed as committed and guaranteed by Fairfield Landscaping.

If this can not be done I would seek to have 50% refunded to me in order to hire another contractor to correct and finish the job.
