Family Auto damaged my truck while performing maintenance. They must honor the 12Mo./12,000mi warrenty.
I have tried to write this a few times but I cannot get all the facts into 4,000 spaces so here are the main points.
1. Family Auto worked on my truck. Replaced Timing Chain & Oil Pump.9/13/2018
2. My truck, a 2011 Ford F150 w/3.5L EcoBoost engine, never used oil, never leaked oil, never burned oil between oil changes. 18 days after Family Auto performed the work, I was driving home at the 169 & Hwy51 Interchange when my truck started knocking. By the time I got over to the shoulder, it locked up. I checked the oil & it didn't register at all - it was empty! 10/1/2018 I still have the wrecker receipt.

My engine is ruined! The owner, Scott, said bring it in so they could look at it. A few days later, Scott called & accused me of draining the oil out. He said it didn't leak because the truck's under side should be covered with oil. He said there's no way it could have burned that much oil in such a short time - 18 days & 3,800 miles. He insisted someone drained the oil out & didn't fill it all the way up. The manufacture recommends an oil change every 10,000 miles. I changed it every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. Then he offered $2,500 in labor if I bought a new motor he would remove the engine and replace it with the new one for free. I refused. All the evidence points toward the Family Auto not re-filling my truck completely with oil after they drained the oil and removed the oil pan to do the put a new oil pump on and replace the timing chain. Every mechanic I have spoken with has said they believe that is what happen to my engine. They need to replace it. This is a $40,000 truck that I took in for maintenance and I believe their negligence destroyed the engine. When I refused the offer of free labor the decision was mad to file it with his insurance company. The initial phone call I had with *** the rep *** tried to tell me 3 separate time that family Auto was not liable. 1st He stated they never drained the oil out. I proved him wrong. 2nd He said it must have happened during an oil change. Told him the manufacturer recommended oil change is 10,000 miles not 3,800. Finally He stated that because 6qts of oil was on my receipt for the work that was incontrovertible evidence that it was put in the truck. I ask if he ever got home from the grocery store without everything he had paid for.
After our lively discussion he said I needed to pay another mechanic to tear the motor down so they could send their special adjuster to look at it and determine if family Auto is liable.

I am not going to pay $1500 or $2000 so they can send their rep to come and do rule on their behalf especially after the extremely bias and pre-judging call I just had with them.

Desired Outcome

I want my engine repaired or replaced. I believe they were hoping I would give up because I am always traveling for work and usually out of state.

we performed the repairs on the 2010 f-150 on 9-13-2018 . during repairs we noticed that the engine had quite a bit of sludge internally which is caused by lack of maintenance . we were contacted by vehicle owner and the truck was towed back to our shop on 5-14-2019 eight months later . we inspected the vehicle and found that the truck had major engine damage due to lack of oil , truck had been driven until damage occurred . anytime a vehicle has 170,000 miles on it all fluid levels should be checked routinely . upon inspection we found no issues with the work that had been performed here on 9-13-2018 . we did offer vehicle owner to install a motor if he brought the engine to us at no charge to him which was declined . we also offered to file against our insurance company so that a independent claims adjuster could determine if our shop was negligent as of now that's where it stands . I believe vehicle owner was informed to have vehicle towed to a independent shop of his choice and have vehicle inspected . my last conversation with the insurance company I was told and I believe vehicle owner were told that if negligence was found on behalf of our shop that the insurance company would take care of all repairs . as of 08-06-2019 vehicle is still sitting here in our parking lot .

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
When this happened I had just started a new job with a company that started offering technical expertise to wireless carriers solely because of my coming on board. I am the only one in this small company that can do what I do. So when my truck quit the owner offered me a company vehicle to stay in the field and honor our contracts. As for the statement that proper maintenance was not maintained on the vehicle. Fords recommended oil change intervals is every 10,000 unless you pull trailers or leave your engine ideling for long periods of time etc. I never exceeded 10,000 mi.
Tand the truck never needed oil added between changes. It didn't burn oil or leak oil. I have talked to 2 dealership mechanics and another mechanic shop owner none of which could think of a mechanical reason allowing for 6qts of oil to be absent after 3,800 miles or eighteen days. Their consensus was if it didn't leak out then they were at a loss. Family Auto ruled out the possibility that it leaked out. When they ask me if I wanted them to turn it in on their I insurance they failed to mention that before the insurance could come to a conclusion I would have to pay between $1500 & $2000! That is almost half the price of a used but guaranteed engine. If you recall My original post how the insurance company tried to give 3 different reason that in their mind explained how it was impossible for Family Auto to be at fault. Does that sound like a fair and impartial 3rd party? Finally I have searched and searched the internet, the F150 forums etc. trying to find another 3.5l EcoBoost engine that failed like this, oil vanishing,I couldn't because it doesn't happen. The only probable scenario to my mind is the engine was not properly filled with oil. This is the same conclusion Family Auto's owner came to except he believed myself or a third party didn't replace the oil. I unequivocally know that is not true. But he refuses to allow that the very thing he wanted to accuse me of could have happened in his shop by one of his employees. I am not a vindictive person and I am not interested in causing bad publicity for him or his business I just want my truck in working order. I spent $3600 to keep my truck in good working order. If it had not been a good reliable motor I would never have spent that much money to keep it that way.

we make a habit of checking oil in the vehicles that are brought to our shop for repairs and maintenance and what we find is that most are low on oil and most are vehicles with 100,000 miles plus .if you research oil consumption for the ford eco boost there are so many threads on the subject its a on going issue . our insurance company instructed the vehicle owner to have the vehicle towed to a shop of his choice and have it inspected at that point they would send a independent auto claims adjuster out to inspect . if our shop is found negligent the insurance company would pay for all repairs on the vehicle . we tried to resolve this issue before filing the claim . in good faith we offered to install his motor at no charge to him which he declined and elected to go ahead and file the claim . our last conversation with the insurance company was that they were waiting on the vehicle to be inspected .

I have a friend who was in the process of moving out of state, She had borrowed her brothers Chevy Avalanche for the move. The Chevy was from a rust belt state. After she had the vehicle loaded and started driving, she noticed a "service brake reservoir" message . She noticed her brakes very weak. She had a friend recommend FAMILY AUTO REPAIR 601 W. Madison, Broken Arrow. I am a retired mechanic and looked at the vehicle and found the right rear brake line severely rusted and leaking. Family Auto fit her into their busy schedule and accomplished a quality repair to both rear brake lines at a very minimal charge. Thank You Scott for the excellent service. Way beyond what I had expected as a professional mechanic
