Laboratory charges were not fully disclosed during the time of purchase. On March 12th 2013 I went in to get a Laboratory test at Family Care Medical Center for medical clearance to be a volunteer in the Peace Corps. I was told the total amount would be $128.25 I asked if this was the only payment since I had a strict budget and they told me it was and that I was all set. I then proceeded to pay with my mother's credit card. I received a bill from [redacted] for $404.56 on March 16th, I was confused as to what the bill was because I have never heard of [redacted]. [redacted] had sent some of my lab specimens to be processed at [redacted], a third party, without my knowledge and to charge me without my knowledge.Desired SettlementI would like a full refund from [redacted] for the $404.56 I was charged without my knowledge or consent. This letter is response to Complaint # [redacted] filed by [redacted]. He indeed was seen at Family Care Medical Center on March 12, 2013 for a lab work requested by for the Peace Corps. Some of these tests could be performed on site in our lab. These tests totaled $136.00. As our practice does, [redacted] was given a discounted total for paying at the time of service and therefore paid $128.25. At the time of the blood draw he was told by both the receptionist and by the lab tech that some of the tests requested had to be sent to an outside reference lab and that he would receive a separate bill from them directly. We do not give any credit info to the outside lab, so any charges for work would have been billed to [redacted]. If he had questions he could have called the reference lab directly.[redacted] returned to our facility on March 18, 2013 for the physical exam required by the Peace Corps and picked up copies of the reported lab work performed by [redacted]. These results were clearly marked as having been performed by [redacted].I am sorry if [redacted] did not understand that there were more tests required than could be performed on site but this situation arises on a daily basis at our facility and the patients are routinely informed when some tests are sent to an outside lab that they will be billed directly for those lab tests.Family Care Medical Center consistently strives for clarity of care with our patients and is not responsible for these charges or the reimbursement of them.
