sent the insurance information when we billed her February 2015, and asked us to file with her health insurance which was past timely filing as heath insurers do not accept claims that are over 90 days. I am not going to fight over this online due to HIPPA and it is never a positive thing to do a he said she said and argue about who is right. As the doctor, I am responsible for what my staff does and this is definitely not my office policy and procedures and should have been handled much sooner. My staff thought they were waiting for the case to settle. I would have gladly worked this out with the patient had she called me and spoke with me directly, I did not even know there was an issue. I am very accessible to talk to any patient about any concerns and tell them that the very first time I meet them. I am willing to accept the patient's resolution of being willing to pay her copay amount and to adjust the remaining balance as she requested. We are sending her a letter today and we will verify her benefits to see what her responsibility would have been for her co-pays.
