the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and I am glad to tell you that family gym paid my refund already. Thank you very much as soon they heard about the complain they contacted me and paid my money back.
Sincerely,
[redacted]

In summer 2015 I joined the Family Gym in the East Village area of San Diego. I paid in full for a 1-year member. November 2015, with no notice to gym member the facility closed. They only posted a closure notices stating they were closing due to not being up to City of San Diego building codes. I have tried multiples times to get answers regarding the remainder of my membership balance be refunded. I have gotten no answer. The owner whose number is 619-977-5631 does not return calls. He was going to email me the part in my contract where it stated I am not entitled to my refund, he has done no such thing. When called, I am forwarded to voicemail.

This company is run by thieves.

They closed, without notice & now refuse to give members their money back or even let members know they had plans to close.

Its been almost a month now & still no answers from Family Gym on refunding my money back. They will not even return a call or email.

Review: On Nov.12th, I went to go work out at the Family Gym located in the East Village - 101 17th Street San Diego, CA 92101 where I was given a flier stating the gym was trying to relocate elsewhere because of financial burdens brought on by the city of San Diego. The flier stated Family Gym was looking for other locations and the contact info of [email protected] as the e-mail and a phone [redacted] was on the sheet. I waited and e-mailed on Nov. 21st to find out any information but as of this date received no reply. Also, the number on the flier rings up as disconnected. I pre-paid on Sep. 29th for a year membership in the amount of $149.00, and I think the membership and subsequent closure actions were not done with honesty and in good company policy because these demands from the city on Family Gym surely did not occur overnight--meaning they have know for more than a while they were going to move or close. I am not able to use the membership and I think I should not be charged for something I can't use.Desired Settlement: I would like to receive a refund for the bad customer experience which I believe Family Gym could have avoided if they had told me in Sept. that they might have to move or close in a few months. For that issue, I would like to be refunded the whole $149. However, if that is not possible, then I would like $136.58 which is the membership minus one month (September-October) which I was able to use the gym.

Review: On June 22th I got my membership with family gym. I paid three registration fees which included service for my two kids and me. [redacted] ,the person who helped me with the registration processes, told me that my daughter who is Nine years old would'nt be able to use any machines while I was doing exercise, however, I must be close to my daughter in order for her to be able to use any exercise machines. I paid 99.00 dollars (cash) in total. The next day I took my kids to the gym and [redacted] the person in charge told me that [redacted] gave me wrong information and that my daughter was not able to use the machines because she must be 12 years old in order to have access to them. [redacted] told me that my daughter would only have access to the classes or the childcare. According to the contract I have the right to cancel my contract within five days. I canceled my membership on the 24th and I requested my money back. They told me to wait 10 days to get my refund by mail. Its been a month and I haven't had any response from them. I have called them four times and they just asked me to wait five more days because my check is on it's way. I tried to talk to a supervisor but all staff in the front desk call themselves supervisors. I am really tired of looking for a solution and having no response.Desired Settlement: Money refund

Review: Family Gym closed down 11/9/15 and I joined with 2 memberships paid in full for one year on 11/1/15. Have a contact with family gym and paid upfront a total of $255.00 for 2 memberships for a full year. The city of San Diego had to closed down family gym due to not fixing and repairs. If the gym knew about these manantory then why did they still take my money knowing that they were gonna close downDesired Settlement: Would like my full refund for both memberships since my contact was only 11 days old

Review: Family Gym had told me, aside from the 17th Street and Imperial Ave location, right down the street from my home, that they had 3 other locations for me and other members to use. I signed up in July of 2015, and paid for a full-year membership at that time.

On November 12th, this location closed, with a notice saying they were intending to relocate. Members were instructed to use the next closest location in National City. I drove to the location, and it was no longer a Family Gym, and in fact, it hadn't been for 3 months. They sold it, and a Chula Vista location at the time I signed up. I tried emailing, calling, and messaging on Facebook, to contact the owners to seek information/explanation to these deceptions, and to inquire about a refund for services not yet rendered from my membership contract.

All phone numbers are disconnected or voicemail-full. Emails are not responded to either. All four locations they have are now closed, and they are not cooperating in issuing members refunds.Desired Settlement: I would like the 9 months of membership to this gym, which I have not used to be refunded. There are likely several hundred or more individuals who are dealing with the same issues.

Review: This business (GYM) shut down without ANY notice. Will NOT respond to calls nor emails. And will NOT refund the 6mnth prepaid membership.

They still advertise on [redacted] for a business that is shut down.

And while they will NOT respond to calls or emails from MANY of us costumers. They do however, get on Facebook and tell the paying customers to basically (chill) and go to the border town of San Yisardo to use that Family gym.

(which is NOT owned by them but by someone else) and that our membership will not be a 100% honored.

Customers should NOT have to drive to a border town to use another gym NOT owned by them.

They also are trying to tell customers to go to a previously named Family Gy that was bought out. But that GYM will NOT honor our memberships.

Trying to get our refund for a membership we can't use because the business shut down WITHOUT any notice.

Is beyond frustrating. They're hiding. And only responding on **, to scold folks and to DELETE any complaints folks have, They have deleted our complaints.

I purchased a 6mnth membership on Oct 7th and My active duty military son also purchased a 6mnth membership.

The business closed on Nov, 12th.Desired Settlement: We would like this place of business to respond and resolve this matter. By refunding back our paid membership for the 17th street gym that closed without notice.

As would hundreds of other members who used that gym.

Review: I signed up with the gym and within a few days less than a month they closed the doors and didnt notify nobody. I called the number to contact them and cant get through and when my sister got through to them we canceled the membership. And they r continuing to try to take money from my acct. Im getting calls from the collection agency. They still havent cancelled any membership although we canceled the membership a while back.Desired Settlement: To c y they continue to bill me for something I cancelled a while back.

Review: I had a membership, due to health issued I had to cancel, I call them, they gave me an email to send my cancellation request. They responded and sent a cancellation form, I completed and sent back and received an acknowledgement immediately that it was received and that my membership was going to be cancelled. This was in November 2015. I am still being charged my credit card as of February 2016. Please note that the cancellation letter and email THEY provided was from ultimate fitness center Chula Vista.Desired Settlement: Refund please ASAP!!!! I have not attended the gym in over a year!... But I cancelled in November

Review: I opened up a one year membership approximately on 8/1/15 at one of their locations on Broadway chula vista. Exactly one week later there was a sign on the door that told us that due to the size of the facility they were to close down, the sign directed us to attend family gym in question on 2296 Maya Street, there was no contact information listed or were we or the instructors notified of this change. So I headed to the gym and the person in charge told me that there was no free child care which was not true at the original location child care was free for members. So I said ok and asked a few questions as* to why. He explained that it was independently owned and that they didn't have to follow the same rules even if they all have the same name and use the same use the same gym membership keytags etc and were all listed under the same website. I went today again and the same person told me that they will not be allowing any of the members from the Broadway location to attend that gym anymore. They told me that we would need to go to one of their other locations to use those facilites or obtain a refund from one of their other facilities then come back to Maya street and re apply for a gym membership. He insisted that they were not affiliated and I questioned him because they are all listed under the same website and carry the same business name. This is confusing and totally wrong.Desired Settlement: The reason I joined that gym was due to the proximity of the location to my new residence. I had attended LA fitness for 2 years but I moved and that was the next closes option for me. I joined the Broadway gym and it was closed with no notice. I know have to travel a bit to the Maya location but now if I have to attend the Del Sol location it is way to far for me. I just want this location to honor all memberships services whether they were opened at that location or not.

Review: The Family Gym closed on 11/12/15 due to update costs required by the City, including permits, fire sprinklers and handicap upgrades. It noted on a flier posted outside of the closed building that it would be reopening within the next 10 days, but it is now 12/8/15 and their voicemail continues to state that they have not opened a location. They recommend contacting them by email but have not responded to any of my emails. I was charged my monthly fee for November but was not able to attend for over half of the month and they have not gotten back to me with any updates, although I have emailed and left messages with my contact information.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund for my November monthly fee. I would also like a refund of my "Annual Rate Guarantee" fee given that I paid it to maintain my monthly rate for the whole year but I will not be provided a continuous year's worth of membership due to the gym's closing.

Review: The gym closed down in November 2015 without notice and charged me the monthly fee for November. I requested and signed a cancellation form at another satellite gym, but still got charged again in December 2015. They won't cancel my membership and refund my money.Desired Settlement: I would like for them refund my money and stop charging my credit card.

Review: I purchased a year membership to this gym at the end of august and on November 12th the gym closed and they keep stating on their ** page that there will be an update with the new location and it has been nearly a month with no new update. There is another location in San Ysdiro but they have no news and cannot process any sort of refunds through that location.Desired Settlement: refund of payment made minus the 2 months I actually attended

Review: I joined family gym and thus signed up for their training program. I prepaid for services of 50 sessions but could only complete about 11 of those sessions. I felt constant pressure to buy items and became uncomfortable with the business. When I looked up the gym I noticed there were several major complaints regarding their business practices. I also asked if the trainer that was assigned to me has his training certificate of proof since he had me lift heavy weights that could cause injury if not used properly. I finally simply requested a refund since my second set of sessions ( they are broken down into 25 sessions each) had yet to even begin. In all they collected $1200 from me with out providing the service ! Furthermore I felt persisted to purchase the products "for my training" that included testosterone etc and I am a female. These items did not contain prices and when I saw my credit card bill I was shocked. I felt every time I was there to train I spent over $100 each time just in merchandise alone. The total of these useless "supplements" exceeds $400! As stated I felt very uncomfortable and under pressure to continue to purchase additional sessions when I was not even done with the first 25 that I originally prepaid for. The business has very questionable prior business practices and I suggest a very deep look in to this gym. Further the gym is not covered properly there for it is extremely uncomfortable to work out in the colder moths with rain/wind/etc .. overall my experience was not a positive one and I feel like I have been scammed. They refused to issue a full refund even when I clearly pointed out that I could not finish the sessions. They reply was I had 3 business days to cancel when intact the sessions were still at the very least 4 weeks away from purchase date.Desired Settlement: I would like for the business to refund me for the sessions that were not used. This is the standard policy of just about every single gym I have ever come arrows. the sum totals of $840 dollars. These services were NOT rendered there for charges are fraudulent. I should not be forced to continue to train with someone who is possibly unlisensed and a gym that would allow a person simply because they are a family member to train people. Even if that person does have a license the constant pressure to purchase items when a person is simply trying to work out is outrageous. I suggest that the Revdex.com look in to this entire organization as this is not the first time this has gone on. Thank you !

Response:

We would like to address these issues one at a time.

1) Based on our records & text messages received from the client she did miss a lot of sessions due to:

Sick kids - she cancelled for a week

Personal illness - missed 2 more weeks

Vacation to Russia (& two other places) shortly before Christmas

Texted her trainer after the new year saying she had gained back all of the weight she wanted to start back training in January

The next time we heard from her was when she decided to cancel

We are unsure what constant pressure she felt as we only sell membership, PT, & water/gatorade. She had already signed up as a member & for PT so I’m not sure what she ‘felt’ we were trying to sell her.

She saw other complaints, which are irrelevant, other than it obviously influenced her decision to file this one. Our Revdex.com rating is A+ so she must have been looking at Yelp! which everyone knows is a scam to start with.

All of our trainers are properly credentialed.

Her first purchase of Private Training for $599 was maid on 6/19/13. Then, less than a month later, on July 17 she signed up for another Private Training Package for an additional $599. When questioned why she wanted to do that she said she was going to Vegas & didn’t want to spend the money there. She was obviously happy with us at that point.

We do have an independent vendor stationed in the front of our club the sell’s supplements & other related products. What she purchased from them is between them. We receive nothing but a flat fee for rent from them. Did she not ask what things costs before purchasing them?

Our Private Training Agreements have a time limit on them. They have to be used within a certain amount of time. We feel confident that the pressure she was probably feeling was with the illnesses & travel she was not going to be able to get all of her sessions in & have to forfeit them.

We are prepared to honor. We are more than happy to complete her training sessions, providing she shows up when she schedules.

Thanks

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Regards,

Im sorry but I do not wish to continue services in an unsafe down right disgusting establishment. My other issue which I forgot to mention is the day care which is essential to me training at any gym. It was dirty with no air conditioning in the very hot months. It is situated in the back where no air is circulated. That alone is an issue, then there is the problem where the care takers do not speak english ( I do not speak spanish) there is no secure check in or check out anyone can just grab a kid and the care takers would not object. They pass out food with out permission of the parents and with out knowing if a child may even have severe allergies. Furthermore they have dirty diapers in that hot room after you are forced to change your child on a dirty changing table and god only knows if it was ever cleaned and certainly can't be wiped down since they use cloth table covers. I had one of the care takers tell me my child was dirty but I can keep working out if I wanted it was not an issue with her if he staid that way !! Outside food and snacks are allowed which I do not believe they have a license to do so. With this issue, equipment not working half the time, the gym not being air conditioned or covered properly I do not want to train there end of story. I should not have to be forced to do so. This gym has been in trouble before when they scammed other people out of their funds when they up and left from another location with out notice. Yelp reviews are not a scam ! It's peoples experiences at an establishment and when there are multiple reviews about the same exact problem a deeper look needs to be done in to a business. From what I understand the "owner" is not even allowed to have a business in his name because he is being investigated by the city and has pending actions agains him. This gym is a scam and instead of caring about it's customers it cares more about scamming it's customers out of their money. I have never quit a gym where I was not refunded in full what I did not use. Services are not rendered there for funds cannot be simply held. I do not feel safe or confident in this business there for I do not wish to continue. I simply want my refund back for what I did not use. Please take a closer look at this business and all of it's staff. Thank you ![redacted]
