Review: In April 2012, I hired a contractor (Alan E[redacted]) to repair/replace my roof. We agreed on a price to do the job & he stated that it would be best for me to order the supplies, have them delivered,m and then his "crew" would do the job. I should have known better at that point, but all was going smoothly so far. The day the roof was to be put on, I was at the house, then a "crew" showed up who did not know who Alan was. Alan finally showed up and said that this is his guys that he uses. The company name is Family Restoration. When the job was "completed" there were several issues that needed to be taken care of - the kitchen window was broken, the roof was leaking, and the roof framing was not done correctly where the skylight was closed in - the rafter was not completely replaced - it was only spliced in with a board.

It took more than 2 1/2 years to get this company (Alan & Family restoration) to come back and fix a leaking roof. Dozens of calls made to Alan & Luis only to be told they would be there, never show up, and when they did show up, there were 2 guys that worked for the company to find out what the problem was. The one guy (Elisar) said that the roof was not put on correctly - I then told him that it was the company he is working for that put the roof on (then the surprised look on his face appeared).

When they left, they left my house with a tarp covering the roof where the problem was. About 6-8 weeks later (after Luis' vacation, his family visiting from another country, picking up people at the airport, etc.) he finally set a date to fix the roof. The morning that they were supposed to be there, they show up late (after 10:00 am) had 2 guys and Luis (after several calls to give directions) and then Luis left after telling the guys what to do. A good portion of the work did get done on Saturday, and they said that they would be back on Sunday to finish. Sunday morning came and the one guy finally showed up ALONE - said the other guy did not want to work on Sunday (I verified with Luis that they would work on Sunday if they did not finish on Saturday, and he said that they WOULD). He did finish up the main area of the problem, but around 4:00pm he said that he was getting tired and hungry and wanted to leave. He said to call Luis and see when they would come back to replace the ridge vent. I called and Luis, and he was asking for me to pay for the materials that he just had to pay for - I replied that his guys screwed up the first roof, I have been waiting for 2 1/2 years to get it fixed, and felt I should not have to pay for HIS mistake. He said that if that was the way I felt - he would NOT be back to finish the ridge vent, and he considered this now done.

I feel that I have been taken advantage of because he, and his company, failed to install the roof properly the first time, and then to ask for additional money to pay for the materials is unfair. All I wanted, and expected, was to have my roof fixed the first time.

His own worker said that it would cost "about $150" to complete the ridge vent for the labor. The materials are at the house.Desired Settlement: I feel that if he does come back to the house, the job would not get done properly - because he is upset at me - when it is HIS guys who screwed up in the first place. A refund to me would be acceptable, so I can hire someone to finish the job. It may cost more, but at least I have the money his worker stated that it would cost to finish.
