Fantastic Handyman

We interviewed Mr. [redacted] for small handyman services we needed done around our home. He gave a good talk telling us he guaranteed ALL his work and never had a complaint against him. Well he installed a railing by our back door after leveling off the concrete and steps. We now get pools of water there that turn to ice in the winter. He has come and looked over the situation and tried to tell us the water gathered was from the runoff from the front walkway. It is NOT. My husband took a hose and proved how the water is gathering at that spot. He asked [redacted] to come over and prove it to himself. [redacted] said he was in Europe and would stop by upon his return. I gave him dates that we would be away and stated that we wanted to be here when he came. He claims that he stopped over (we were not here, never saw him!). Long story short we have a very dangerous situation in the wintertime when the gathered water freezes. We are seniors, we use the breezeway door often as do our guests. [redacted] has never come back while we were home to discuss this problem and to test it as my husband had requested. We sent him copious notes on how to perform the test, time consuming for us and all for naught! In the many months since, he has never tried to contact us and made any attempt to rectify this situation. For the above job he brought along two workers to help. As he finished and was about to leave, we reminded him that the job included also installing a railing on the stairs. At that point with two workers standing idle, he did a half hour round trip to Home Depot. Meanwhile we were paying for two idle workers for over two hours and we were charged for three people for a one man job! The two workers did not have licenses to drive so they could not run the errand. [redacted] had stated in the beginning that we would not pay extra for any job that had to be reworked. We originally paid $3310. We did pay an additional amount of $1450 to cover the cost of correcting this situation which did not end up correcting it.Desired Settlement[redacted] and I want this dangerous situation fixed to our liking - which was the guarantee that [redacted] originally agreed before beginning the job. It that cannot be done, we request a $1,500 refund.
