I contacted Jon Willis in June 2019 regarding information for a home owners insurance policy. He gave me a quote which my wife and I decided to pursue. Jon wrote our home-owners policy in July 2019 and we received a copy of this policy effective Aug. 1,2019-Aug.1,2020. All was well until we got a leak in our roof after a terrible storm in Jan. We had a roofer come look at it and said we definitely needed a new roof. He contacted the claims dept at Farmers Insurance and called me to notify me that our deductible was $9,300'! Our current deductible in our policy states $1,000 deductible which Jon agrees is what he wrote the policy to state. I contacted the corporate customer service dept & spoke with Eric, he explained to me that underwriters had made changes to my policy in Sept regarding the change of deductible. When I asked him why they would not disclose those changes to us mid-year, he quickly stated that a letter had been mailed to us. If a letter had been mailed, I can assure you I would have called the minute I received said letter! Wouldn't you mail something of such importance sign/receipt to make sure the other party is aware of the changes? I was so confused as to how they came up with the odd number of $9,300 deducible and he stated that it is a 2% rebuild cost of our entire home which seems ludicrous in itself. Farmers has our home insured for $400,000 but they figured the quote based on $463,000. Is it legal to make up a value that's not even stated in the policy? It seems completely unethical to change a policy mid-year without contacting the agent or client? Our agent, Jon Willis was not aware of the changes made either. A written policy is good for the dates listed when signed & becomes a binding agreement between 2 parties, it is no longer valid if changes are made without consent. We have received numerous emails regarding unrelated matters yet something as important as these policy changes were NOT emailed or followed up with a phone call to verify knowledge of changes.

Desired Outcome

Other (requires explanation) My wife and I have both contacted Jon Willis and Farmers Insurance Corporation on numerous occasions since the initial phone call with no resolve. We feel that Farmers Insurance should uphold our original policy terms declaring our roof claim with the original stated deductible of $1,000. We expect this be done in a timely manner especially since Governor Kemp publicly requested insurance companies to be proactive regarding recent claims due to weather damage.

The insurance company has worked with Mr. and removed the claim from his file with Lexis Nexis. Mr. seemed pleased with the outcome even though it was not his original requested outcome.

I can NOT believe that Mr. Jon Willis would honestly say that he feels that I am pleased with the outcome?? He knows what he did was COMPLETELY UNETHICAL and terrible business! I am NOT pleased because his office was untruthful with my wife and I when they changed our policy without our knowledge then tried to tell me they mailed us a letter notifying us of those changes when I called to make a roof damage claim after our state suffered terrible storms! Our governor urged insurance companies to process these claims quickly. We would have called immediately had he mailed us a letter changing our deductible from $1,000 to a 2% of insured value of house which is equivalent to $9,300!! Who in their right mind would agree to a policy of that nature? It was done underhanded and completely without our knowledge! Why wouldn't you mail something of such importance signed receipt to be sure the policy owners received such valuable information? This would then make it a binding agreement with both parties informed of policy changes but as it stands we NEVER received ANY changes and only have the original policy that Mr. Jon Willis wrote with a $1,000 deductible! He blamed it on the USPS instead of admitting their wrong doing. I am an Atlanta Fire Fighter and risk my life everyday for others yet when I need my insurance they are not there to help me! It is NOT right nor is it ethical for them to treat valued consumers in this manner when they need it most! I contacted the claims adjuster Ryan Shaffer who assisted me in getting the claim removed from the policy since we NEVER made a claim but merely called to request information regarding our roof. When I Spoke with Jon Willis to inform him that we were requesting the Lexus Nexus process to remove the claim on Feb 5, 2020, I asked him what he would do if he were in my situation and how he would feel if he were me. He said I would pursue the Lexus Nexus and get the copy of the letter then find a new insurance. I asked him if he knew I would quote him on that if he would still advise me to do that and he said yes. He owns the agency and that would be his advise to a hard working consumer that has a roof that is leaking and wrote a policy with $1,000 deductible? I feel like I am in a nightmare and just wish they would conduct ethical business and be there when their consumers need the protection they thought they had the coverage for.
