Review: Nature of complaint: Good faith deposit held on a used car from Farmingdale Motors was not returned. Description of complaint: An agreement was made to perform agreed-upon repairs on a used 2002 Toyota Celica before the final purchase. [redacted] at Farmingdale Motors, agreed to abide by our mechanic's findings, make the necessary repairs, provide receipts and the old parts, and have our mechanic re-inspect the finished work. When asked "if the work is not to our mechanic's satisfaction, what recourse do we have?" [redacted] said, I'll refund the deposit. With that assurance, we gave $120 for a good faith deposit. The following business day (5/**/2013), [redacted] contacted us and stated we did not need the work that our mechanic found to be needed and stated our mechanic was incompetent. We disagreed and I reiterated the agreement we made, the items needed to be fixed in order for us to purchase the car. We were contacted a day or two later and was advised the car was ‘fixed’ so we had our mechanic look at it again. Our mechanic indicated he still heard the same noises that caused him concern in the beginning. The old parts were not supplied, only receipts and pictures of repairs done on A car, not the car we were purchasing. [redacted] was extremely rude when confronted with the findings from our mechanic; used foul language in front of my son and refused to return the deposit. As far as we're concerned, he breached the contract he gave verbally and we are due our $120.Desired Settlement: Refund of good faith deposit.

Response:

I have owned and operated this establishment for 4 years. I have never NOT done the work needed to a car, either by request of a customer or because the car just needed it. However, when [redacted] had his so called mechanic come to inspect this 2002 Toyota Celica GT, the mechanic said that the hub bearings were making a noise. Now to drive a car and be able to determine where a sound is coming from and then to actually pinpoint it without actually inspecting the part is AMAZING not to say IMPOSSIBLE!! [redacted]'s mechanic did not fully inspect the car.. did not put the car on the lift, which I have two here.. he did not get underneath the car to look at it.. he just drove the car and said there was a noise coming from the hub bearing. I had a personal mechanic come here and inspect the car, drive the car, put the car on a lift, take the wheels off and fully inspect he car, specifically the wheel bearings. Not only did he NOT hear a sound, but he checked the bearings as much as he could, because the are inside the hub, and he couldnt not determine if there was anything wrong wit them. However, after [redacted] gave me the $120 dollar deposit, he not only negotiated a price $600 less than the asking price, but also insisted the job be done before taking the car, which cost me an additional $400. I purchaed the bearings from a parts department, I brought the car to a press shop to have the bearings pressed on the axles, I have receipts. After all this he insisted the work wasnt done and his mechanic said the work wasnt done because the sound was still there. Thats because there was no sound to begin with we told him or because it wasnt the hub bearings OR because this guy was not a mechanic to begin with?? Either way I have proof the work was done and I paid over $400 for un-nessesary work to a car at the customers, [redacted], request.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

[We obviously dispute what was written by the business owner. Point 1) He slanders the mechanic that we brought because he disagrees with the findings? This is to say the least, unprofessional and totally unnecessary. Point 2) If his mechanic could not find anything wrong with the bearings, why did he bring the car to a shop and get new bearings pressed on the axles? Point 3) We asked to reduce the price of the car so our mechanic could do the work; we didn't insist the work get done before we purchased the car, just reduce the price because it needed the work. He insisted that the work would be done; he would show us the parts and provide receipts. This conversation was in the presence of 4 people, not just myself and the business owner. He showed us receipts, no parts and pictures of A car being repaired (not sure if it was the Celica). Point 4) If he felt the work was unnecessary, why would he agree to a reduced price on the car - he could have said 'no, I can't sell it for that price' and we would have parted ways. Point 5) By having the 'unnecessary' work done to the car, the car was in better shape to sell at the asking price - no one can find fault if the work was truly done; which comes back to the original dispute, we feel it wasn't.

Response:

We have already been through all of this.. this is just repetition. We tried and TRIED to satisfy this customer. We had multiple conversations. We all sat down and discussed the price. The customer went on multiple test drives with the vehicle and with his "mechanic". we agreed to do the work We did all the work!! Even though it was UNNECESARY, but the customer said he would not buy the car if the bearings were not replaced, per his mechanics (insisting) request. We showed actual proof the work was done even though we didn't have to because the customer did not ask us to provide the old parts to starting the job.

Where is your proof the work wasn't done??? Your mechanic couldn't prove it, BUT we provided receipts and pictures. What more do you want from us?? We bent over backwards, jumped through hoops, lowered the price of the car, did the work even though it wasn't needed. End of story.. WE LOST MONEY!! NOT YOU!!

Review: on 11/*/14 I purchased a vehicle through farmingdale motors under a car loan. along with this I used my 03 accord as a trade in. which the dealer agreed to pay off the balance due on my 03 accord loan, in the amount of $3,000 which would have been added to my new loan. after two and a half weeks of having the car the dealer called me saying the loan was not approved due to an error on my part regarding my yearly income. so he asked me to get a letter from my job to submit to the bank along with my 2013 W2 form; and thats what I did. on 12/*/14 I submitted my down payment which the dealer and I agreed upon with a signed deposit receipt; on 11/*/14. within the time frame listed above the dealer claimed to still be working on the loan approval which puzzled me because he claimed I was approved the day I drove off the lot. I then asked him for a direct number to the bank which he claimed he was working with on my loan. however he did not want to do so. the dealer kept saying hes got it under control it would be straightened out by the end of the week which wouldve been 12/*/14 the next week after it was the same story by this time I already payed for the insurance which come to find out the vehicle was not even registered. on 12/**/14 I told him if the deal is not finalized by monday the [redacted] I would return the vehicle and take back my vehicle which was the trade in along with my 500$ deposit. his response was "ok no problem" on monday 12/** he was not there so I waited till the next day 12/**/14 and I returned the vehicle and took back my trade in. when I asked for my deposit back he then claimed they only give deposits back on thursdays. he had me fill a deposit request form so that on thursday I would get my money back which he guaranteed. when I went back to farmingdale motors on thursday 12/** it was a whole other story he did not want to give me back my deposit so I called nassau county police...he still refused. I was then advised to take them to small claims court. my court date has been scheduled for 2/**/15, I thank you in advance (Revdex.com) for taking the time to hear my complaint I look forward to your response

Happy holidays, [redacted]Desired Settlement: I would like for my deposit to be refunded to me in full.

Review: I financed a car with Angel S[redacted] of Farmingdale Motors in June, 2016. The 2013 Lincoln MKX was supposed to be inspected and registered before the car was given to me. I found out weeks after the car was delivered to me that the car was not inspected and had a temporary registration. When I addressed the issue with Mr. S[redacted] he said it was someone elses responsibility, but to take the car to be inspected and he would pay for the inspection as well as use the inspection information to register the car. I took the car to be inspected and it failed. Mr. S[redacted] paid the inspection fee and suggested I take the car to the dealer to get diagnosed. I found out that the car had several issues, but my factory warranty covered a few and the total of the other repairs would come to 499.41. Mr. S[redacted] agreed to pay that amount, but was unavailable for 2 days and the car had to be released or accumulate more fees. I paid the 499.41 and continued to try to contact Mr. S[redacted] to no avail. About two weeks went by and my friend went to Farmingdale Motors to pick up the money. Mr. S[redacted] gave him a check for the above amount written out to me. Two days after depositing the check the funds were unavailable and caused bank fees. Again I tried to reach Mr. S[redacted]. Over two weeks passed and Mr. S[redacted] answered the phone for my and apologized and said he would have the money to me by the end of that week. I text and called and received no word. Another two weeks passed and after a few texts threatening to file a small claim he text to send my email info so he could wire the money via [redacted] bank. At this point I had given him the amount of the repairs including the bank fees; totaling $570. There was no transaction made and Mr. S[redacted] has yet to answer my calls or text messages. It has been several weeks.Desired Settlement: I would like to return the vehicle for a full refund without penalty or fees. The vehicle is still not registered.

Review: Regarding 2010 Honda Civic

Several lies and acts of dealer fraud were committed to me. Problem being, the "TPMS" light is on the dashboard, which is for the sensor that reads the tire pressure. The salesman told me it was on because the pressure was low (low tire pressure light is a completely different light.) So, I got the car looked at by a certified Honda dealer and they told me the real issue, that a sensor needs to be replaced. I call [redacted] and he said he is sorry about the salesman (who is no longer working there) and will have his mechanic fix the problem. The mechanic reset the system and did not fix or replace the sensor which I told him the certified dealer said had to be done. I call back once the light comes back (same day) and the mechanic informs me he is sorry but he will order the parts or have [redacted] pay me to fix it with Honda. Many days go by and even when I call [redacted] he does not come to the phone and speak to me because apparently the salesman who lied to me no longer works there. Today, after much frustration, [redacted] finally got in touch with me to tell me the only thing he can do is take the car back and cancel the loan for it (rather than pay $180 to fix sensor) because he didn't really make any money on my deal and he'd "rather make more money selling the car during the hotter season." Clearly getting an attorney will cost me more than to just fix the sensor myself but they have done nothing but lie to me sense I first walked through their door, even spending a whole day bringing my car to their shop for them to lie and not fix anything. I really hope this does not happen to anyone else and sadly the $180 will probably have to come out of my pocket.Desired Settlement: All I want is for them to fix the part or pay for the certified dealer to do it.
