Below is Flores Custom Auto's response to [redacted]'s claims:Customer called with an issue on her 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. Customer stated on the phone that she purchased this vehicle recently from a used car dealership and it had no heat. She was instructed to bring it to my shop, so the issue could...

be diagnosed. Customer brought the vehicle in, and upon briefly inspecting it, it was found she was correct and did not have heat and it was not a heater control or blend door issue. She also stated there was a sound of water sloshing around. Customer was informed both issues were related to her heater core. She was instructed to leave the vehicle for a few hours, to further diagnose the issue after it cooled down. Vehicle was pulled into the shop, and further diagnosis was started after waiting for the vehicle to cool down. Upon removal of the radiator cap, Bars Leak residue was discovered. Bars Leak is a product used by the previous owner or dealership in an attempt to correct an overheating issue common to these vehicles. Bars Leak typically does more damage than good when trying to fix a overheating issue, and in this case it caused major blockages in the heater core restricting coolant from freely flowing which caused the sloshing sound and lack of heat. Customer was contacted with this news and two options were recommended to her. Option one, the ideal option, was to replace the heater core entirely. This option was refused due to cost. Option two was to flush the coolant system and was not guaranteed to work, but the cost was much lower. Option two was selected by Customer. The first flush of the system was not 100% successful. System was flushed a second time upon shop's recommendation for only the cost of coolant (Customer did not provide an adequate amount of coolant) and no labor was charged. Second flush of the system was 100% successful in restoring heat. There was no sloshing sound reported after this, but it is certainly possible for the sloshing sound to remain as the heater core's main blockages were flushed away, but some residue likely remained. Heater core would need to be replaced as per option one to guarantee this particular issue to be fixed, but overall option two provided a much more economical solution for the customer. After completion of the second coolant system flush, mechanic noted lights were present on the dash related to the VSC and ABS systems, two systems not at all related to the work performed on the car in any way. Customer was notified of this occurrence and options to diagnose and repair. Likely, these lights/codes were cleared with a scanner by the used car dealership the vehicle was recently purchased from and came back after a short time. This is not the fault of the shop and the work to the coolant system chosen to be completed was successfully completed
