Complaint: [redacted] I do not agree with your response and I did want it to be known that when I made my first appointment I was told consultations are free and the only time I received a bill was when I canceled the procedure recommended by youI went back to my dentist of thirty plus years and he strongly felt that this tooth should not be pulled but medically addressedI called back and spoke to a different girl upon receiving my bill and asked if I came in would I be charged a consultation fee and again was told NOMy whole point is integrity not the money issue as you are quick to point out that I was only charged taxI feel that a switch and bait tactic has been used and for all that come to you after me I speak out Sincerely, [redacted] ***

The policy of our office is to bill for consultations. Unfortunately, we recently hired a new receptionist who was unclear on that policy. The patient's insurance paid for the consultation. He paid tax only. Since the miscommunication was entirely our fault, we will
refund what he paid in taxes and will return the money to his insurance company. The patient was seen on June 15th and he had insurance benefits that were going to expire at the end of the month. We were adamant that he understood this so he did not let benefits expire but were not in any way trying to pressure him into treatment. Recommended treatment was a relatively conservative approach to address his periodontal condition as well as the extraction of one severely involved tooth. My "life's calling" is saving teeth and I am extremely dedicated to that calling. Part of my job, however, is to know when it is in the patient's best interest to extract I remain firmly convinced that my recommendations were the treatment of choice. I take profound issue with the claim that anything we did was unethical. One of my newly hired staff members was guilty of being misinformed regarding our policy on billing for consultations but that was the extent of our wrongdoing. Any miscommunication is unfortunate and I am sincerely apologetic for this one. If the patient is willing to overlook our error, we stand by to serve
