Father & Son Construction Company

We contracted for two bathrooms to be renovated in 2021 and were given a quote that we understood to be a firm price except for those line items that were clearly marked as estimates and subject to revision.

During the renovation, we learned that our quote was not considered to be a fixed price quote by Father and Son, but just an estimate that could be unilaterally increased without any change in scope for all the line items. This resulted in price increases of between 50-150% for fixed price line items in the quote.

There was no negotiation, there was no justification for the difference, Father and Son's position was "take it or leave it". This resulted in a lot of extra effort, stress and cost for us - quite a contrast from their sales pitch of "we're experienced professionals who will execute and manage your project efficiently"

This was so egregious and insulting that we took a line item originally quoted at $7k, that unilaterally increase to over $15K with no change in scope, and retained our own sub-contractor for $5k, about 1/3 of Father and Son's price. This sub-contractor completed the work in less time than Father and Son's subcontractor to a very high standard, saving us over $10K.

The sub-contractors for Father and Son were for the most part competent professionals, but the way Father and Son manage projects and revisions to price is very unprofessional in my view.

So - be aware that when you get a quote that says it is fixed price, there is no guarantee that Father and Son will stick to this price. Our experience is that they expect to be able to increase the price for the same scope of work - not particularly ethical or consistent with the expectations established during the sales process.

Getting a good general contractor is difficult - we could not recommend Father and Son based on our personal experience.

Father and Son Construction Co., telephoned me a day or so later after the complaint was received by them.
The phone call was mostly YELLING/SCREAMING  that I will cost him his business and that it was winter, did I not understand
it was winter.  Take this to the Revdex.com, meaning the YELLING/SCREAMING phone call.   
I had a Thanksgiving day dinner planned I contacted them stating I can't have people over with pots and plastic all over
my furniture from these leaks.  A week or so later they arrived  and caulked where it was leaking from.  They said there was nothing
more they could do.  It was an old roof and left.... Quote:  On the phone he mentioned I told you I would help best he could, but it is winter time, do you
understand it is winter. END OF QUOTE!   
Due to the fact, they didn't prep the roof as described on the Pail  of the [redacted] 
QUOTE from Warranty and Disclaimer and Company Rep.  [redacted] is guaranteed to form
a protective coating to your roof, for a period of seven (7) years from the date of purchase.  This Warranty is ONLY 
applicable when this product is applied according to our direction.  So the Company Rep., said QUOTE: that even the Warranty is not
applicable due to the fact, the Father and Son Construction Co., not preparing the roof properly. 
[redacted]. also informed me that I shouldn't have any leaks, new or old, 
due to the fact the Elastomeric Coating Flexes 250% and would not open new or old cracks due to any kind of weather. 
So, I'm out the Warranty on the product and $1,500.00.  Since I don't have the Warranty on the Roof, to have another company come in and
reapply or help me in some way, that is why I'm asking for the  return of my $1,500.00.   I will drop this Complaint ONLY to these conditions as
described below.
 I told them I was on a Fixed Income, I didn't stiff them with my check of $1,500.00 but they STIFFED me
by loosing $1,500.00 and  for a job not satisfactory and the Warranty is no good.  
Upon, my not hearing from Father and Son Construction Company regarding the above conditions of dropping this complaint,
I will contact my Lawyer, News Media, and Social Media.   I feel they don't need to take advantage of people just to gain a good 
reputation in the Community.
