We were moving from Ft. Lauderdale to West Palm Beach, FL - local move.
We have just had a very painful experience with this company. Despite all their promises, we ended up with much higher costs that we should pay because of the hidden charges, assembling the furniture by ourselves, damaged furniture and floors and very poor customer service.
When we talked to the office to make the moving estimations, they didn't mention anything for the fuel surcharges and the 'material costs'. We didn't have much furniture - 3 bedrooms barely furniture. We already prepared and moved most of our boxes by ourselves, so the moving estimation was about $400-$500. We were promised 'care-free', 'full-service' moving. In reality, it was just the opposite.
When the driver arrived early Saturday morning, he declared that there was a 22% fuel surcharge, based on the total work hours, not on the driving distance at all (the driving to the new home was local, only 40 min). He said that it's our choice to accept this condition or not to move at all. We had no choice! There was no way to find the alternative solution Saturday morning, and we had to move immediately! That was the first blow.
Then we asked to also load 2 planks from my backyard and a ladder; all pieces were light and about 12 feet long. They started complain that it's too much extra work and called the office to argue and explain the moving delay. They spent 4 hours loading the furniture on the track, though we disassemble several pieces by ourselves to spare the time. We didn't have much furniture and very few boxes left for them.
The trip to the new location was 40 min (it was at 1 pm). When they arrived, the driver declared that it would take him 2 hours to unload the truck and that he was going to stop at 3 pm sharply. He wanted me to pay upfront. It was not what the sales person told us initially - we were told before that we would pay when they finish. So, I had to call the office and they told the driver to get the payment when the unload is finished. During the entire unload, the driver kept saying that 'his time is ticking, he 'would stop sharply at 3 when his time is up'. I was in shock. They were working by hour and at the same time made me feel badly by constantly reminding on his precious time and the possibility not to have time to assemble back the furniture.
Indeed, since the office ordered them to get the payment when they are done, they were not in hurry at all. They spent 1.5 hours slowly assembling 1 bed. Then, they took out the sofa out of the truck and dropped it on the driveway. They tried to put it back on the dolly by drugging it on the asphalt until I screamed. Then, they took out the vanity chest, dropped it again, drugged on the floor and broke one drawer that was not repairable. Lastly, they tried to get the armor in the bedroom and broke the laminate floor that was at the bedroom entry. When I was inspected the damage, they only laughed at me, telling me that this is just one broken piece and it was broken by the wheel of my furniture. So, they said 'it was your fault because your furniture broke it'.
They stopped exactly at 3:30, stating that their time was over. They were 30 min late than their original estimations, the rest of the furniture was not assembled at all, the floor, sofa and vanity chest were damaged. On top of it, they charged the fuel charge based on the total hours they spent for moving and about $60 for the 'materials - type' that the sales never mentioned before.
I was in tears. I paid $965 for extremely poor customer service and damaged property.
