Review: Father & Son estimated moving my 3 bdrm apt in 5 to 6 hours @ $124/hr. During the move, the workers did not perform, standing around most of the time. One of the workers reeked of alcohol & ended up placing 2 fist-sized holes in my wall that I had to pay for. At the 4-hr mark, I spoke with my contact @ Father & Son & explained the problem. He said he spoke with the manager on the job, indicating loading close to completion. They needed to remove the rail on the stairs in order to move the largest pieces of furniture & was told this upon arrival. They didn't have appropriate equipment to remove the rail; my landlord ended up doing the job. They all watched the landlord take the rail of. I asked them to continue working while landlord took off the railing. They arrived @ 3:30 pm & completed loading @ 11 pm. When we arrived at the unloading location, they said I had to pay them over $2,100 prior to unloading. I had $1,400, thinking I had more than enough. I maxed out at the ATM for the daily limit. They suggested that I find someone to cover the remaining $700+. I had no one to turn to, especially at nearly midnight. They said if I gave them $1400, they would deliver the equivalent in possessions & come back when I had the remaining funds. The next I borrowed the $700. They said I now owed an addl $1300 due to loading/unloading, for a total move of $2,700. I didn't have the extra $600. I again explained that it was totally unfair to charge me the excessive amount when their team did not perform. The following day, they said I now owed them $3,600 with storage. The job went from an estimate of $744 to over $3,600. They still have my possessions & won't release them as each day that passes, they add on hundreds of dollars. Please help me. My 10-year-old son is so upset. He doesn't have his books, toys, school supplies, & other items because the company has them. I have video & photo proof. They fired the drunk worker. I found the empty brandy bottle.Desired Settlement: Although I believe their original amount of over $2,100 is excessive, I believe they should at the very least honor that amount and accept a balance due of $700 and deliver my possessions as soon as possible. I don't have the funds beyond that outrageous and unfair amount

Response:

I am in receipt of complaint referenced in the above—mentioned Shipper Whose only gripe with her relocation is analogous with an alleged “overcharge”.

Be advised that Shipper contracted with Father & Son Moving & Storage to render moving service from [redacted], Staten Island, NY to [redacted], Staten Island, NY on or about January 3, 2014. The Shipper was paying “by the hour” at a rate of $124.00 for four (4) men and one truck with overtime applicable after eight (8) hours including travel time. The total estimated cost of the job was $2,404.36 (see enclosed “Probable Cost Of Estimate”). In actuality, the move was completed in less time then estimated and the Foreman for Father & S0n requested payment for ONLY $2,183.02. Unfortunately, the Shipper only had $1,386.00 in total funds on the job site. The driver, in turn, unloaded a portion of the Shippers items, including setting up the Shippers bedding. The Foreman also advised Shipper that he was only going to charge her one (1) additional ham to dIiVe back to our storage facility and unload the remaining items, which absolutely is at a severely discounted rate. In addition to the moving fee, the Shipper Was charged for a storage fee of $275.00. Her grand total equated to $2,679.36. These fees were all in agreement, as per Shippers signature 011 surface "Total Cost Of Move" addendum, prior to bringing her items into storage (see enclosed “Total Cost Of Move" addendum).

On or about January 10, 2014, the Shipper contacted Father & Son Moving & Storage and requested. a delivery price. Father & Son and the Shipper agreed on a Flat Rate redelivery price of $1,145.00. Shipper came to our office and paid the balance due from the first move, and paid only $1,124.00 for her redelivery — leaving her a balance due Father & Son of $21.00. redelivery of Shippers items were in fact delivered to Shipper that following day on January 11,

Review: On 11/7/2014 I hired father and son to move a ding room set from [redacted]. I was given a price of 5 o 600.00 from [redacted] a mgr at father and son. The movers showed up and hour late at 10:00packed in 1hr and left at 11:00.They came to my house at 1pm after going to [redacted] because they got lost and then told my wife is was 785.00. I called [redacted] and said you quoted me 96.00 the mover said it would be about two hrs of work to which he said they add two hrs travel ok then that's still 600 around about and he said I was mistaken. Ok we paid, then about 2:30 my wife calls and says the works are complaining end yelling at each other that they arte afraid of dropping the china cabinet. Now the Mgr [redacted] calls me and asked me what should I do???what should I do?? he said he will call me back and see if the china cabinet was a two piece maybe held by screws , this is where the destruction of property by father & son comes in because the driver who was witnessed by my wife but she didn't realize it at the time took a screwdriver and pried the press board off the china cabinet where as he also broke and cracked a 4ft piece of the china wood on the side causing permanent damage to this 2000 dollar set. I later made repairs with wood glue and clamps and a staple gun but, it will never be the same and I still have to find stain to match the wood. After about a dozen call the MGR [redacted] told me he had no guys to help at his office and asked me to come home, or get a friend to come help the movers or he threatened to leave the piece there so I called and got my friend [redacted] who the movers made the lead guy up my stairs and into the living room which proved all along that these guys didn't know what they where doing.afterwords, the movers again threatened to leave the cabinet in the living room saying the ceilings where to low and only after my wife yelled at the driver to come back in and help the movers tilted back and pushed it into the dining roomDesired Settlement: The destruction of property due to father & son Movers employee who broke the china cabinet wood,, the misquote of over 285 and the mere fact that my friend had to come and help the movers with the cabinet not to mention they got lost, I am seeking half of the money back also due to the stress and aggravation ,,my wife who was in tears when I got home over this whole incident. I guess if I mention the numerous scratches left on my floors then my integrity would come into play!!!!

Regards,

I was quoted one price of $500 for a move and instead was charged $1700 cash only for a two day nightmare and delayed move.
