December 15, 2014Dear [redacted] : I received the letter from you regarding a complaint filed by [redacted] I thank you for the opportunity to respond to you about [redacted] 's complaintAs an initial matter, it is important to note that [redacted] , by her own admission, has been a dry cleaning customer for quite some time.The ESC charge that she is now complaining about is not a new charge by my store and by dry cleaning industry standardsNevertheless, I am very happy to provide a formal explanation of this chargeFirst, [redacted] contended that on her dry clean bill the “ESC” (Environmental Service Charge) appeared as a taxThat was [redacted] 's conclusion and I believed she was wrongThe ESC charge was a reasonable cost imposed on dry cleaning users for the performance of the serviceThe purpose of that charge is based upon industry standards that require very high demands on environmental protocols and protections related to the dry cleaning processAs you know, this industry has included the service charge as a low cost and effective measure to ensure that dry cleaning can be continued while preserving natural resourcesLike the dry cleaning industry, other businesses might charge similar service charges when dealing with sensitive materials or chemicalsA few good examples might include the auto repair industry and tire shopsThe practice of imposing certain service charges are a measure that ensures that overall price of services remains as low as possible for our consumersI consulted with colleagues, fellow business owners, industry practitioners in the same dry cleaning business and attorney familiar with business law and I was assured that ESC charge was legalI was surprised that [redacted] had taken the time to seek mediation services through your office for an issue that could have been easily explained to her.I found out recently that adequate explanation was not provided to her by my staff who was confused about this issue and I felt sorry about this inconvenience situation to [redacted] Honestly, my English is not much fluent but after consultation with my counsel, this is what I am considering for the peaceful resolution for this issueI will offer to [redacted] reimbursement of the $ ESC Charge even though I still believe that ESC charge was reasonable I will post a big notice and sign about ESC charge at visible area near counter for Customer I will educate carefully my all staffs about ESC charge to be able to explain to all customers who might ask in futurePlease give me any better advice if you have for this matter and I am ready to cooperate with you as a ChristianAttached : Environmental Surcharge (ESC) Notice You have a good daySincerely yours,Myoung C

1. I will offer to [redacted] reimbursement of the $ 1.20 ESC Charge even though I still believe that ESC charge was reasonable.
2. I will post a big notice and sign about ESC charge at visible area near counter for Customer.
3. I will educate carefully my all staffs about ESC charge to be able to explain to all customers who might ask in future.
Please give me any better advice if you have for this matter and I am ready to cooperate with you as a Christian.
