Fences Unlimited Reviews (6)

Review: In April 2013 we contacted William (Bill) Savage after seeing Fences Unlimited LLC's add in the Citizen newspaper. He came out and walked our pool area and measured for a new fence. he left us 2 product brochures and we called him a week or so later with the materials we select. We agreed to a price over the telephone. He came back out May 29 2013 to re-measure and drafted the contract in our presence. He said he needed a deposit for the materials which would be delivered and stored at our house before the work was to begin on July 8th 2013. We gave him $2400 cash deposit and he signed the contract and also signed a certain area confirming receipt of the cash deposit. As we approached July 8th he hadnt called and materials never arrived. His cell and business (from his website) numbers were all no longer taking calls and/or disconnected. His business address of 50 Hartford Ave appears to be a vacant lot. We couldnt locate him and have since filed a Dept Consumer Protection Complaint as well as a complaint with the local police in Southington. They have contacted Torrington Police. I did receive a call from [redacted] on Friday July 5th and his message left a new number. I called that number (his friend) nearly 10 times leaving messages. His friend called back once and not until July 9th did he return out call with yet another number which he said was his new cell. He said he was injured and should be cleared to work friday July 12th. I called his new number that evening, saturday, sunday, and this morning 7/15. he has yet to even return one call. he has our deposit of $2400, he has not delivered the materials he claims he purchased with that money, he has not performed one ounce of service as detailed on his contract. BEWARE! - there are 3 other similar complaints on Revdex.com site for this same contractor in the past month. a pattern is evident. apparently his contractor license is also lapsed which we only found out after reading other complaints filed in the past 30 days against this contractor.

Desired Settlement: DesiredSettlementID: Refund

WE DEMAND OUR $2400 RETURNED IMMEDIATELYIF THE MATERIALS HAVE IN FACT BEEN PURCHASED, I EXPECT THEIR DELIVERY WITH ALL HARDWARE ALONG WITH A RECEIPT REFLECTING THE COST EQUAL TO OUR DEPOSIT. IF THE MATERIALS ARE DELIVERED WITHOUT RECEIPT TO SHOW THE COST WAS $2400, THEN THIS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AS SETTLEMENT. IF THE MATERIALS ARE DELIVERED WITH ALL APPLICABLE HARDWARE AND RECEIPT IS INCLUDED AND THE AMOUNT IS LESS THAN THE $2400 DEPOSIT, WE EXPECT RETURN OF THE BALANCE OF OUR DEPOSIT.

Review: He paid with a company check and it came back to me as "return to maker". Cannot get a hold of him to make good on check. I spoke to him once.

He has not made good on a bad check.Desired Settlement: To pay his bill and the bank charges and finance charges.

Review: On 5/14/2013 I accepted a work proposal from [redacted], Fences Unlimited, Torrington, CT, to install chain link fencing for my back yard. I provided Mr [redacted] a $1,700 cash deposit on 5/15/2013 as Mr [redacted] also offered a "cash discount" which I accepted. I have a receipt for the $1,700 from Mr [redacted]. Mr [redacted] suggested he would purchase the necessary materials the following day and begin installation approximately May 21st/22nd. Subsequently, Mr [redacted] has "promised" (his exact word) work would begin "tomorrow" in eight separate phone conversations. As recently as 6/9/2013, Mr [redacted] again promised his crew would start work "8:00 am tomorrow." My most recent attempt, 6/10/2013, to contact him by telephone was met with the message "the person you are trying to reach is not accepting calls at this time." Internet web site [redacted] also reveals that the Connecticut contractor's license for Fences Unlimited #XXXXXXX has lapsed.Address on contract is 50 Hartford Ave, Torrington, CT XXXXX. Address associated with contractor's license is 829 Main St, Torrington, CT XXXXX-XXXX.I entered into a contract in good faith for work which My [redacted]/Fences Unlimited has failed to attempt or accomplish.

We want Fences Unlimited/[redacted] to 1) provide a full refund of $1,700 (cash or cashier's check); 2) cease and desist from conducting business in Connecticut; 3) pay any penalties due the State of Connecticut for conducting business without valid and proper licensing.

Review: Contacted William Savage beginning of April to get a verbal quote for theinstallation of chain link fence. He informed that delivery of materialusually takes 2 days and he would install fence within a day.He received a deposit of $1,750.00 on April 8th and gave us a written proposal. He has been giving all kind of excuses for not installing the fence. I have been trying to contact him for the past couple of days and there is a recorded message on his phone that informs he is not accepting telephobe calls. I also tried to send him an e-mail but receive no answer

The work performed by Fences Unlimted was not up to code. The contract was for a fence for an inground swimming pool. The contract total was $3100. I was able to stop the last payment for the check for $1500.

I have reported them to DCO for not being in compliance with HIC law and not abiding with pool code complaince.

I have not heard from Fences Unlimited.

Business Response /* (1000, 12, 2013/05/29) */

Yes in response to this outrageous complaint by this customer,

I started the job and my foremans dad passed away and we didn't come to work on Monday or Tuesday of that week cause he was away for the funeral services of his dad.

I wasn't available to return they're call on Monday and Thea people flipped out and called my phone harassing me and my employees!!!

When I did return there call on the next day the were very rude and unsympathetic to my employees situation involving his dad so then when I tried to rectify the situation they didn't want to fix it they also stole my tools and won't return them.

Consumer Response /* (3000, 14, 2013/05/31) */

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT ACCEPT the response from the business.)

After reading the response by Fences Unlimited, our position still remains that Fences Unlimited had no HIC license to work in the State of CT.

CT Department of Consumer Protection regulates the HIC license. As of May 13, 2013, Fences Unlimited still did not have the current HIC license. Therefore, the contract was not valid per the Home Improvement Act.

It is our believe that Fences Unlimited after corresponding with the Department of Consumer Protection had no right to work as a contractor on someone's private property.

Questions may also be directed to DOCP, Rob Pero, XXX-XXX-XXXX.

RESOLUTION: WE WANT NO MONIES BACK. WE WANT OTHER CONSUMERS WARNED.
