Fessler Home Improvement & Construction, LLC Reviews (33)

I was referred to Fessler Home Improvement by a realtor friend, and I owe her a great debt for doing so.
Jim F[redacted] came to inspect my leaking roof. He was very professional and knowledgeable and explained why I was having problems. He met with my insurance adjusters to show the problem areas to them. He truly was an advocate for me. He is a man of integrity who does what he says he will do.
I highly recommend Jim F[redacted] and his Company. I would not hesitate to hire them again.

We had a roof leak in the ice storm this past winter. We immediately called Fessler and within 30 mins time they had a crew member at my house up in the attic assessing the damage. They were able to clear the ice dam and stop the flow of water into my dining room. They brought in all sorts of equipment to contain the water damage. They worked directly with my insurance company. They had my house repainted and floor replaced in no time. It was a terrible situation that made me feel helpless. Fessler's team was kind and considerate and put us at ease. The were very careful in our house and did wonderful work. My house looks better than it did before. My friends recommended Fessler to me and I will pass their name to anyone needing or wanting any work done to their house. Because of the ease and quality of working with Fessler, we are now considering adding an outdoor living to our house.

These folks are true professionals at home improvement. They care about doing it right and don't expect the customer to monitor the project. And their knowledge of a wide range of areas is impressive.

Fessler Home Improvement has done two jobs for me. The jobs were nothing big but they were handled in a very professional and timely manner. All of the subcontractors that came to our house were on time, respectful and did great work. I gave them a few ideas and they exceeded my expectations. You won't regret using them for your job.

Quality products and customer service. I was very pleased with their work and prompt, friendly service. Highly recommended

Fessler Home Improvements did a wonderful job for us in repairing our weekend home after it sustained extensive water damage due to freezing pipes. The job required plumbing, wiring, new flooring, dry wall work and painting. Because this home is located in a rural location and it was difficult to find and supervise the work necessary to repair the damage, we called [redacted] because he had done work before in our home. I was always comfortable with the trades people he provided. The work was completed in the allotted time. The employees doing this job were as professional as the ones Fessler had used in the past. This work was done while all of the furnishings and personal belongings were in the home. Those items were moved with care, were not damaged, and nothing was missing when the work was done.

Perhaps the true test of a contractor is how problems are addressed and the contractor's follow up. The only problem we had was when the hardwood flooring was installed on the upper level of the home, some of the dry wall caulking on the lower level ceiling broke away. [redacted] would not accept the final payment until that repair work had been completed to our satisfaction. This was as insurance claim. Fessler uses the same estimating program as most insurance companies so when additional work was needed that had not been included on the insurance company's initial estimate, [redacted] or his employees were able to have the additional work approved.

We could not have been more pleased with the work done on this entire project. Mark Fessler provided regular updates on the progress of the work. He was on schedule, was easy to deal with and seemed to be genuinely concerned that we be pleased with the final product.

Fessler Home Improvement recently repaired my front porch that had experienced storm damage and was leaking water through the roof. Mark was very helpful in working with the insurance company to access damage and did everything he said he would to repair the porch to it's original standards. All of the Fessler employees were timely and courteous while on my project. After completion, my front porch was as good as new and the job site was left immaculate.

On January 6, 2015, I called looking for someone to repair a leek in one my gutters. I received a return call from a gentleman who asked me to describe the problem, after which he told me that it sounded simple enough to be covered by their minimum fee of $275, which I agreed to. Five minutes after saying he would schedule it, he called back to tell me that his gutter man told him it couldn't be done while the temperatures are below freezing. He said he'd get back to me when it warmed up. Two weeks later, with temperatures in the 50's, I expected a call, which never came. Since I shouldn't have to beg for someone to accept my money as a customer, I called another company and got the work done. I've since been told that freezing conditions are never an issue with gutters. Incidentally, the other company who did the work charged me $225. I didn't get the salesman's name, but his cell phone number is XXX-XXX-XXXX, so stay away from him if at all possible. What good is a salesman who doesn't follow up?

I've used Fessler Roofing & was so pleased. When I found he had gone into home improvements I knew his was the company to use.

I was in a bind and I found them on the internet. The came up with solutions and were able to save us money and completed the project ahead of schedule. So far, we are stilling using them at two of our sites (Nashville and Alabama. In fact, on two occasions they come to one of NJ sites for their advice

Fessler was very responsive to my initial call, professional in performing the repairs and provided a positive experience. Every day after work had been completed, they cleaned and left my home clear of materials. They dealt with all insurance processing and paperwork, removing that hassel from me.

We were impressed with the overall professionalism of the company. The quality of their work is excellent, and their workers were always polite, pleasant, and worked diligently until the job was complete. They also did a great job cleaning up after the job was done. We have used Fessler for roofing (a large job), exterior and interior painting, and window replacement. They will get the first call whenever we need home improvement or repair work.

Began my experience with Fessler HIC in mid April 2014 after researching this company through the Revdex.com online. They were reported as an A+ since 2007. I looked no further since Fessler was in my area close by. Made a request through the Revdex.com for Fessler to contact me about a walk in garage door project I wanted done. [redacted] called at the end of April 2014 in response to this request. He took the information on my project and on May 01, 2014 sent me a quote for $2475.00 to cut my brick sided house, install a 32 inch wide door. The cost seemed quite high, and after receiving this quote and questioning the cost, [redacted] explained the intricacies of cutting brick and matching it in along with installing the door opening. He said that "They" do this all the time and it will take 2 days to complete. After this conversation, I agreed to the quote and hired Fessler HIC. May 02, 2014 [redacted] put my project on his calander for a start date of May 19, 2014 which was a specific date I asked for and [redacted] said that with 3 weeks notice, there would be no problem starting then.

Monday May 19th came and along with it many of the problems that bring me to this review.
- No one showed up until after 10 am May 19
-A younger worker from Fessler HIC, "[redacted]" came to the site and met with another person who arrived separately.
-Turned out to be a Masonry worker that "[redacted]" was meeting with
-Masonry worker was not able to begin work until Thursday May 22
-After lengthy conversation with "[redacted]" I advised him that [redacted] agreed to begin Monday May 19 and had 3 weeks notice. The work either begins or Fessler HIC can leave and the job will terminate
-[redacted] called his boss and later told me that another Masonry worker will be in to start the job
-Around 11:30 am May 19 another Masonry worker showed up with [redacted], looked at the project for Fessler HIC, and advised he could begin Tuesday May 20 at 8 am.
-I agreed to this with the understanding that the project remains on track and is completed Tuesday May 20
-[redacted] from Fessler cut in an opening on the inside of the garage in preparation for the Masonry work on Tuesday. This much work got done after I stayed on Fessler to get the project started and done on time. It took [redacted] only 4 hours to complete this part of the project.
-Tuesday May 20 came and after 8 am had passed, I had to make multiple calls to [redacted] to find out why no one was here to begin the work. He said he would check and call me with an update
-I called again at 10:20 am since I had no update and no workers. [redacted] said he was not aware that no one had ever been to the job site and was checking again.
-11:00 am [redacted] showed up personally for the VERY FIRST TIME. Gave his personal assurance that the crew would begin cutting the brick at 11:30 am and then left.
-The Masonry crew did not show up until 1:30 pm Tuesday May 20
-The Masonry crew was able to cut the opening in the brick, but was not able to complete the job in time for the door to be installed by [redacted] from Fessler since concrete had to be allowed to set up.
-Called [redacted] again at 2 pm. because the Masonry crew needed questions answered concerning the opening for the door. No one from Fessler was ever here on site during the cutting of the brick
-[redacted] said that [redacted] would be on site at 2:30 pm to help the Masonry crew
-3:45 pm Tuesday May 20 [redacted] from Fessler finally showed up. He soon after told me that the project would not be completed this day for reasons of concrete setting up needs
-1600 hrs Tuesday May 20 I told [redacted] from Fessler that I was no longer interested in Fessler as my contractor for all the problems, phone calls I have had to make, lack of over site on the project, and failurre to complete the project as hire to do. I cut ties with Fessler HIC at this point and worked directly with the Masonry crew to finish the project without Fessler being involved and further.
-I agreed to purchase a Door & Trim from Fessler as well as pay for the 4 hours of labor [redacted] had on May 19 and that was the end of our relationship.
-Tuesday evening May 20 at 10 pm, I remeasured the opening cut in by [redacted] from Fessler and found it to be 1.5 inches to short for the door that was planed for a delivered by Fessler. This opening was taken apart by myself, reworked to the correct size which took 2 hours (10 pm - Midnight)
-The Masonry crew I continued to work with did come back at 7:30 am on Wed. May 21 as planned and completed the project to my specifications and was finished by 1 pm with everything including clean-up.
-The bill I received from Fessler HIC on May 29, 2014 was so over inflated on the door I was shocked. The door and Trim was billed out to me for $740.00 and $210.00 in labor for a total bill of $950.00
-Monday June 16, 2014 [redacted] called about payment for services and goods.
-After going over the bill with [redacted] and going over all the problems I had experienced with his company, we came to an agreement of $600.00 on the final price for his company's part.

RECAP: I agreed to pay an expensive price to get service and a project done. Many things went wrong with Fessler HIC that I hired based on Revdex.com reports. The service lacked severely through out the project. No one from Fessler ever met with me personally to look over the project before it began even though I asked if they needed to. There was no one that checked or was on site to over see the project from start to finish. There were many phone calls that I had to make just to keep the project and workers on the project as much as I could. [redacted] gave me false assurances through out many of my calls to him during the project. The billing was inflated for materials and labor (later changed to a lesser amount). Project went more time than originally promised. One nice call did come from [redacted] who did take responsibility for the problems and made apologizes for the short coming of Fessler HIC.
