I have been going to DrFichman for about years now having Lasik surgery back then and more recently cataract surgery and now another surgery to improve my vision All I can say is they are wonderful The people in the surgery center are friendly and make you feel very comfortable while you are waiting for your surgery DrFichman has been very attentive to detail and works with you for the best possible outcome He truly takes care of his patients and makes sure they are happy with the results of their surgery

$for an routine eye examYes, this is not a typoThis is a yearly routine eye examGo somewhere elseAfter I got the bill I called around and checked other eye doctors read them my bill and what they charged me for and for the same exact exam it would of only cost me my $copyI called the billing department and they made up some excuse that since I have floater in my right eye the exam costs moreSo you are looking in my eye anyway and if you find floater (which most people have at my age) then my exam become 2x as muchThis is a scamShe then tells me that if I did not have insure the exam would of been $100...so you charge more because I have insurance? I just left the office in New Britain without getting an exam for me or my husband see my husband is in a wheelchair he only has one leg has COPD so doesn't breathe well when I made the appointmentsI asked if it was handicap accessible which I was told yes there is a elevator so we get in side and there is a note posted on elevator saying not use so I walked to the second floor told the receptionist that we were here for our appointment and that you elevator said do not use but that my husband d was down stair in a wheelchair with only one leg she said yes it's not working the company hasn't gotten back to us yet so will make you a new appointment say a month from now it should fix by then can not believe the attitude could care less for handicap customers needless to say I told her that I would get back to her but believe me I would not go back if that was the last eye doctor around very poor business practice if you ask me no care for handicap people thank God he was 'tall ready up there when it broke down then what would they tell me to come back in a month and then maybe my husband could get out of there and what elevator company do they do business with that gets back to them when they feel like it.????

I see others have billing issues with Fichman Eye Center.

I was charged $300.00 for an routine eye exam.

This is a yearly routine eye exam. After I got the bill I called around and checked other eye doctors, described my bill to them and for the same exact exam it would of only cost me only a $10 copy.

Here is the breakout of the bill.
$230 Comprehensive Exam
$161 United Healthcare covers
$69 I have to pay
$65 Refraction
$0 United Healthcare covers
$65 I pay

$134 Total I paid and $161 health insurance paid. The same exam including the refraction would of cost me $10 (my copay) at most any other eye doctor. Eye exams are routine and any eye doctor can do them. I actually saw an assistant for 15 minutes for the eye test and an eye doctor for 10 minutes for the eye light exam...I have done this almost every year and the exam is the same thing....so they are making $600 an hour. Highway robbery.

I called the billing department and they said the bill was correct. They said if I did not have insurance it would of cost me $100. Wait so it costs me $134 plus the cost of my insurance because I have insurance. I asked why they charge more than other...basically $124 more. The response I got was since I had floaters in my right eye the exam costs more. Wait I was never charged more for eye exams and I've had floaters in my eyes for 10 years. They look in your eyes with the magnifying glass and light regardless...so when you see floaters that most people have at my age you can then charge someone $125......this makes no sense. Did the exam somehow take more time because I had floaters in one eye? I highly doubt this since he only looked in that eye for about 2 minutes....did that extra 30 seconds cost me $124? Their billing should be reviewed by the Revdex.com. Good luck and please do your own research (call around) so you don't get ripped off too.

Review: On 9/17/15 I had services at the Torrington, CT location, paid my $15.00 copay as required by my insurance company and verified by the receptionist at that location. When I picked up my glasses, I paid the difference from the total bill, after what was covered by my insurance company was deducted. This was verified by the optometrist based on again, verification of eligibility of my insurance.

On 11/18/15 I received a bill for $70.00. The summary of charges on the bill made absolutely no sense and the figures do not correspond with the figures that I paid. I called the billing department and received voice mail. I left a message including my account number, name, telephone number and requested someone call me to explain the bill and the statement. I did not receive a call back.

On 11/26/16 I called again and again received voice mail. I again left another message. I did not receive a call back.

On 12/11/15 I wrote a letter to Dr. [redacted] at the Manchester, CT office indicating my predicament and asked him to look into the matter and contact me. I have not received a response.

On 12/22/15 I received another bill the same as the first bill.

On 1/11/16 I paid the bill to avoid any late fees or collection activity.Desired Settlement: I would like first of all an explanation of these charges and why there is an amount due. The statement of charges do not appear to apply to my account but I cannot get anyone at this business to discuss this with me. I would like my $70.00 returned.
