To whom it may concern, This is in response to the complaint submitted on 6/22/with the assigned ID of [redacted] I would like to say thank you for the opportunity to resolve this issue as it was unknown to me that there was a complaint or that my professionalism had been called into questionI am always appreciative of feedback and ways to improve my services or skill set. In response to the complaint and feedback, I am a little shocked and appalled at the use of language used to describe me or my serivcesIt is a gross misinterpretation of an initial intake sessionShe was requested and I highly encourage parents to come in for the initial intake session to make sure that I was what she and her family member need What was explained from the onset of the session is that I am a highly trained and skilled provider that is often non-traditional in my approachesI explained my college degrees, professional background, and that establishing rapport with each client is unique to each caseEstablishing rapport with teen clients is heavily established through relatability and the client’s confidence in the clinician to be seen as trust worthy and understandingIt is my recollection that most of the initial visit and previous phone call with the person who filed the complaint was me assessing and collecting information about the need for services and the only clinical intervention used in the intake session was going over a negative thought record to work on cognitive restructuring as a tool to help reduce distress and break up client’s unhealthy belief systems about self This is the area that the complaints seem to framed aroundIt was when I was clinically challenging client’s negative beliefs about selfThe statement the client chose to work on was “my body is hateful”Of which I addressed the cultural expectations of the standard of beauty for Caucasian women and women of colorAt no point was there reference to sexuality or act of sex, but the standards of beauty for woman and how they differed various groups of womanPart of that intervention is through the use of expanding perception, increasing insight into broader cultural context and using age appropriate frame of reference- example using the example of Girls- an HBO show about challenging culturally held standards of beautyIt is clear that these interventions were mislabeled, grossly misinterpreted and are slanderous in nature to me as a person, professional and a woman, woman of color and momI have a very solid recollection of this session and never in my professional work have I had feedback of this natureIf anything, the feedback is that people enjoy my authenticity and effective researched based interventions and use of best practices As, a mixed race individual (half white/half black), I am unsure how to respond to these inflammatory accusations, mislabeling, and harsh claims about race and women of colorI will be consulting with a lawyer to address how to proceed forward with this informationIt should also be noted that Cherry Lane Counseling is the office building and which has no individual client’sEach member of the group operates as private practiceThe complaint is against Finding the Silver Lining LLC, and Angela H***, LCSW.I specialize in challenging or difficult mental health issues, crisis, couples and familyI spoke with person who is making the complaint as a pre consult before she brought her family member to servicesIf she had concerns about my expertise, professionalism or knowledge she could have discussed them with me or confronted the issues/accusations at handI have no problem not charging for services if a person is unhappy with servicesBut, I need to be informed of these complaints in order to address said concernsAt any given point in this time she could have spoken to me about her concerns and I would have been receptive to her feedbackBut, I was not given that opportunity to resolve her concerns or refer out which is common practice when there is a mis-match in providing mental health treatmentThis had a quick and easy solution, without any hardships I am not attempting to collect payment and if insurance has been charged it is because I was not aware of these complaints Sincerely,Angela H***, LCSW

To whom it may concern,
This is in response to the complaint submitted on 6/22/2016 with the assigned ID of [redacted].  I would like to say thank you for the opportunity to resolve this issue as it was unknown to me that there was a complaint or that my professionalism had been called into...

question. I am always appreciative of feedback and ways to improve my services or skill set.
In response to the complaint and feedback, I am a little shocked and appalled at the use of language used to describe me or my serivces. It is a gross misinterpretation of an initial intake session. She was requested and I highly encourage parents to come in for the initial intake session to make sure that I was what she and her family member need.  What was explained from the onset of the session is that I am a highly trained and skilled provider that is often non-traditional in my approaches. I explained my college degrees, professional background, and that establishing rapport with each client is unique to each case. Establishing rapport with teen clients is heavily established through relatability and the client’s confidence in the clinician to be seen as trust worthy and understanding. It is my recollection that most of the initial visit and previous phone call with the person who filed the complaint was me assessing and collecting information about the need for services and the only clinical intervention used in the intake session was going over a negative thought record to work on cognitive restructuring as a tool to help reduce distress and break up client’s unhealthy belief systems about self.
This is the area that the complaints seem to framed around. It was when I was clinically challenging client’s negative beliefs about self. The statement the client chose to work on was “my body is hateful”. Of which I addressed the cultural expectations of the standard of beauty for Caucasian women and women of color. At no point was there reference to sexuality or act of sex, but the standards of beauty for woman and how they differed various groups of woman. Part of that intervention is through the use of expanding perception, increasing insight into broader cultural context and using age appropriate frame of reference- example using the example of Girls- an HBO show about challenging culturally held standards of beauty. It is clear that these interventions were mislabeled, grossly misinterpreted and are slanderous in nature to me as a person, professional and a woman, woman of color and mom. I have a very solid recollection of this session and never in my professional work have I had feedback of this nature. If anything, the feedback is that people enjoy my authenticity and effective researched based interventions and use of best practices.
As, a mixed race individual (half white/half black), I am unsure how to respond to these inflammatory accusations, mislabeling, and harsh claims about race and women of color. I will be consulting with a lawyer to address how to proceed forward with this information. It should also be noted that Cherry Lane Counseling is the office building and which has no individual client’s. Each member of the group operates as private practice. The complaint is against Finding the Silver Lining LLC, and Angela H[redacted], LCSW.I specialize in challenging or difficult mental health issues, crisis, couples and family. I spoke with person who is making the complaint as a pre consult before she brought her family member to services. If she had concerns about my expertise, professionalism or knowledge she could have discussed them with me or confronted the issues/accusations at hand. I have no problem not charging for services if a person is unhappy with services. But, I need to be informed of these complaints in order to address said concerns. At any given point in this time she could have spoken to me about her concerns and I would have been receptive to her feedback. But, I was not given that opportunity to resolve her concerns or refer out which is common practice when there is a mis-match in providing mental health treatment. This had a quick and easy solution, without any hardships.
I am not attempting to collect payment and if insurance has been charged it is because I was not aware of these complaints.
Sincerely,Angela H[redacted], LCSW
