Customer's garage door was installed on 1/22/14. The first call from the customer came on 6/4/14, nearly six (6) months after the initial install, saying the door had come out of the track. The PDS technician noted in the safety inspection report the following: "Crashed door possibly caused by object interfering with the door's travel,or operator force settings issue." It was noted at this visit that the bottom panel was bent which is an indicator that the door was either hit by something or had come down on an object. The fact that the panel was bent and not hit by anything as stated by the tenant, suggests that the operator force settings were set such that they were virtually inoperable and did not reverse as designed. At this time the door was put back in the track and the cables and spring tension repaired. We were again called the next day due to a roller coming out of the vertical track. We were not called again until 8/15/14, when again the door had come off the track. It was not identified at this time why and the customer was not charged for our services. We returned again on 8/28/and 9/2/and did not charge the customer. We were not called again until April 2015. The door at this time had again been operating for nearly six (6) months without issue, so it is difficult to understand when the customer states the door has never worked properly since date of install. On 4/20/15, I visited the customer's home with the Garage Door Manufacturer representative, [redacted] of [redacted], and below are a few of his comments in regard to the door and the installation. This information was sent to the customer on 4/21/and he since then has spoken to [redacted] at length in regards to his issue. Below are a few excerpts from the letter:

"It is difficult to tell how the original damage
occurred to the door and trackOnce damage is done the door will not operate
optimally until the damaged material is replaced. I could not find any evidence that the door
had a manufacturing defect or noticed that there was any indication that the
door was not installed correctly and the installation looked clean and
professional." "In my opinion, the problem with the door and operator
combination is in the logic of the operator.
This particular unit has a learning force setting feature that is
designed to set the limits and force which regulates how much force the motor
needs to have to lift the door and where the motor need to stop the doorThis
is controlled by the logic in the motor and is not a manual setting. The fact that the motor loses its programming
when the door binds up is telling in that if the motor pulls the door back too
far, a common is that the lift cable is pulled loose and comes off of the cable
drum and causes the door to bind, This is a major cause of damage to a door. If you look at (image#6) you can see some
residue from the roller on the track that is father back from the correct
position that the roller is sitting after the motor was reprogrammed.""I believe that whatever the issue is with the logic of
the motor that is causing it to exceed its limits and causing the door to bind. This
is sporadic and will more than likely occur again causing additional damage to
the door. If the bottom section, tracks
and motor issue are not corrected this will be a reoccurring and progressively
more damaging issue
"
The customer was told by Precision Door Service and the Garage Door manufacturer that the issue he is experiencing has nothing to do with the installation or manufacturing defects of the door. Precision Door offered to install a new Operator and replace the bottom door panel and track at near cost - customer refused that offer. In the last call on 7/14/the customer stated that neither Precision Door nor the [redacted] General Manager knew how to install doors, and yet the customer did as he had helped install one one time. At this point there was no further reason to speak with the Customer

I am rejecting this response because:  I still beleive that the door was incorreclty installed.  The owner is not a certified garage installer and the garage door manufacture has never installed a garage door, so their opinion are of interest but by no means qualified.  I would like a quilified technician to analize the door.  The owner doesn't have adequate tools such as a laser level to determine if the door is square, level and true.  They suspect the door opener but can not prove that it is faulty.   At theis point, if the owner will pay me back the crashed door fee of $290 and the cost to repair the door in the amount of $250, I will have someone else get the door up and running.

This issue is being reviewled by our Corporate Office and has been inspected by our door distributor.  There is a disagreement about the reason this door is not working.  Resolution settlement was offered, but customer declined.

We were called out to Mr. [redacted] home on 7/31/17 because the cable on his garage door had come off the drum.  As it turns out, Mrs. [redacted] told the technician that when she was lowering the door it had come down on an obstacle, which is what caused the cable to come off.  This is not...

an issue that is covered by any company's warranty, as it was not a result of the parts or the installation, but rather by the homeowner themselves.  The lifetime warranty Mr. [redacted] has covers parts and workmanship on the items which we installed on 1/17/17.  I am not aware of any other Garage Door Company that offers, and honors, such an extensive warranty. With regards to Mr. [redacted] concern on pricing it has been my experience that most often when another company states they are cheaper they are not comparing apples to apples.  In addition, Precision Door Service uses superior parts as opposed to the standard parts used by most other companies.  For example, the springs used at Mr. [redacted] home have a minimum life cycle of 40,000 cycles, versus 5000-8000 used by others. As a result we may be a bit more expensive but certainly not as much as Mr. [redacted] is suggesting. As the owner of Precision Door Service I appreciate any and all feedback, and the opportunity to respond.  If Mr. [redacted] should have issues in the future with any of the parts we installed we will be here to stand behind our warranty.

I am rejecting this response...

because: The contractor has not lived up to his obligation to install a working garage door.  The door was not installed properly and hasn't worked since it started to be used.  The contractor has offered to sell me a new garage door opener at a reduced cost as a resolution.  This unacceptable because the door will still not operate properly with a new opener.  I would like my money returned for the garage door and for a service call.  The amounts are as follows: garage door -$1,139.50 & service call -$278.09.  Please see attached Work Order Agreement.
