Initial Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2015/04/21) */
Customer had her 2004 Ford Freestar Van towed into shop on 02/10/15. We were informed that Van had been parked and unable to start for 6 months. We had to "jump start" vehicle to run and at that time we did a compression test. Van was not...

able to be driven. Van also had no current license tags (expired 6 months ago) and had no gas in the gas tank. Customer asked us to inspect her vehicle. The battery was dead. Customer asked us to check cylinders because car idled rough. Customer also informed us that another shop had recommended a new motor. She informed us that they said a compression test needed to be done. Customer said #4 cylinder was at 45%.
Upon inspecting the vehicle it was determined that she need a new motor. Customer was informed that the cost for a used engine would be $1299- plus 12.4 hours of labor plus tax for the engine. (Labor rate is $85- hour) We agreed on a total of $2500 which would take care of other miscellaneous costs that would come up. Customer let us know that she didn't have the finances so we offered her different ways to help her and We agreed to let her pay balance due when her car was finished. She was approved on GE and Easy Pay Financing but she declined to use the Easy Pay. She agreed and put $700.00 on her ATM VISA to start on 02/26/15. Customer was then approved thru GE (Synchrony) Financing for $1200 (12 months same as cash) also on 02/26/15. She came and paid $600.00 on a Discover card which she had just received in the mail she told us when the engine was finished.
We installed a used Engine, ignition coil, 6 spark plugs, new wire set, thermostat/gasket, rear main seal and did an oil change for $2500.00. We did not replace the Trans with a new one but we did have to remove the Trans in order to replace the motor (you cannot put engine in without removing the transmission) we did however put in a new Trans dipstick and tube at no charge to customer. We also replace spark plug hoses and battery free of charge. Customer then asked for us to warranty these new items. It was explained to her that we cannot warranty the items she did not pay for. All dipsticks were in place when customer left. She did let us know later that she did take it to another shop. If anything was missing the other shop would have notified her. We are confident that everything was in place properly for her.
Customer also asked if we could change her odometer reading for insurance purposes. We informed that miles on odometer cannot be changed.
Unfortunately we could not diagnose the transmission because the vehicle did not even run. Customer was informed from the very beginning that this should fix car in order to pass [redacted] but we couldn't make any guarantees. Customer was also informed that car would need to be driven about 50 miles before the computer module could completely recycle in order to reset the sensors. Whenever you replace tubes, hoses, engines etc., the car has to be driven a while before we can see any leaks. Unfortunately we could not do this with expired tags and no gas. Customer picked up vehicle to have smogged. Customer then returned vehicle after trying to have it slogged with a check engine light on. We adjusted the vehicle to take care of the check engine light and Van was test drove approximately 25 miles to check for check engine lights and that van had no leaks. Customer then picked up vehicle up again. We stand behind all of our repair work and if she had any further problems customer should have returned with vehicle.
Customer did come in with an attitude on numerous occasions and when she called she demanded as to why her car wasn't done. We did let customer know from the beginning that we could do this but it would take several weeks or more to complete. We did this work as a courtesy for her because member of her family (a very good customer of ours) recommended us to her. Even when we spoke of doing the job she said that she could take it to another shop and they would do it in a week. She was informed that it would take us longer and she agreed.
All of this has been unfortunate. I sincerely feel that we have gone above and beyond to help this customer out in every way that we could. We do stand behind our work and we tried extremely hard to make this work for her.

On 05/06/15 Finish Line Tire and Auto provided the BAR with all documents regarding this case. We have made arrangements with a local shop and the customer to have the Transmission dipstick repaired at no charge to the customer. Said shop will bill Finish Line for the repair. We also offered the customer a check in the amount of $1200. to cover repairs at the other shop Customer happy with arrangement according to BAR. Finish Line will not be held responsible for any further problems with this vehicle. We do ask that customer finds a new auto shop for future repairs.

The position Im in I must accept their offer. however I'm waiting to hear from Finish Line to the location of other shop for repairs ... very happy that they admitted they put the transmisson in backwards and happy to know if there are additional concerns after new repair my case can be re-open My only regret to agreeing is that Finish Line refused to give me a warranty on the repairs and motor costing . $2500 Thank you very much

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/08/25) */
Customer was quoted $679.99 for all work if we supplied part. If he brought his own part the charge would be $379.99 and no warranty given on part. Also, the $79.99 he was charged would have been incorporated into the charge. Mechanic states...

that shredder valves had dye around them and was shooting thru the fan. We stand behind our repairs and would have fixed the problem. I do not feel that we should have to pay for all the charges from other shop. They should have done their own diagnostic test. Customer was already informed over phone that we will return the original $79.99 even though he knew that this was the cost of labor for diagnostics. We still confirm that we will refund our $79.99 diagnostics charge in order to resolve this issue.

The statement was not true my receipt says nothing about a shredder valve it says I need a new condenser. I took their word and didn't get a diagnosis on the ac unit I just gave the receipt to the shop and they did what was recommended on the receipt. So I feel that your miss diagnosis is the reson why I pade for a service that I didn't need. So I don't accept.
Your company should pay for the repair.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 20, 2015/10/06) */
I am sorry I wasn't able to respond sooner. We have had no internet for the past 2 weeks unfortunately.
I continue to stand by my offer to re-imburse you the $79.99 that you paid us to check your vehicle. I do not feel that I should pay for work that we did not do. The new repair shop should have made sure that the diagnosis was correct. If the repair was done by us we would have made sure it was done correctly and we would also warranty parts and service.
Final Consumer Response /* (4200, 22, 2015/10/16) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I'm really ready to resolve this issue going back and forward is a problem you should accept your responsibilities for giving me bag diagnose I'm sure that your company makes plenty of money bus for public relations is a problem I took your word for a professional and went somewhere else to get it fixed if I would have went to you to get it fixed it would have been the same problem you would have wanted me to pay more money to fix my vehicle instead of giving me a correct diagnosis so I feel that it's your responsibility for your non-professional consultation so I think we should resolve this with a check written out to me or to another place that can fix my vehicle
