Finks Jewelers Reviews (1)

Fink's jewelers refused to take any responsibility for my fiance's lost diamond, which their jeweler set just 3 months ago.Dear In February 2015, I purchased a 1.55 carat GIA certified cushion cut diamond through one of Fink's (Raleigh) vendors ([redacted]) to be placed in the center of a vintage mounting for an engagement ring. I also hired Fink's to set the center stone and paid $150 for the service. When I picked up the ring, the setting looked off-center, so I asked the jeweler to adjust it. Fink's told me to return in about an hour and when I came back the second time, the setting still looked crooked. I asked the jeweler to adjust it again, and they told me I was being too picky. I still wasn't happy with the job, but figured I should trust their professional opinion. I proposed to my fiance on 1 March 2015 and she had only been wearing the ring for about 3 months when we noticed the diamond had fallen out of the setting. This occurred on Sunday 7 June. I happened to in DC that weekend with my fiance, due to a temporary duty assignment for my military training. Therefore, we immediately took the ring to Fink's Dulles location in Virginia. After spending the entire afternoon waiting to hear back from the manager at the Raleigh location, were were advised that we would need to send the ring to Raleigh so they could inspect it. In the meantime, we asked the jeweler at the Dulles location to look at it and he agreed that the prongs looked intact and that there didn't appear to be any damage to the mounting that would cause the stone to fall out. Once the Raleigh store received the ring, they brought it back to the same jeweler who set the stone. This didn't make any sense to me, given the direct conflict of interest. Why would this individual admit that he did a poor job setting the stone and take financial responsibility for the loss? I was notified two days later that Fink's Raleigh would not take any responsibility for the missing stone. They told me the prong was off by a millimeter. I suspect it was the jeweler who bent the prong when he originally set it, which is why it looked crooked. The worst part of the handling of the situation by Fink's Raleigh is that they actually accused ME of tampering with the prongs. They told me that it looked like someone used pliers on the prong. It is clear from looking at the ring(and the Dulles jeweler agreed), that there was no tampering with the mounting. The ring is platinum, which is the strongest metal and there was no damage to the setting or prongs, so the only explanation for losing the stone is that Fink's jeweler did a sloppy job setting the ring. I am absolutely appalled by Fink's (Raleigh) lack of customer service. Not only did Fink's Raleigh refuse to stand by their work, they also personally offended me in the process. The whole ordeal was stressful, time consuming, and wholly unprofessional. At no point was I warned ahead of time that Fink's Raleigh would not stand by their work. If I knew this was their policy, I would have taken the ring to be set by a different jeweler. I am requesting your assistance in pursuing the following course of action:1. Refund for what I paid Fink's to set the ring.2. Replacement of the missing diamond. 3. A clarification in policy for future customers so it is clear to the consumer that Fink's will not guarantee the work done by its jewelers.Thank you for your help.Regards,[redacted]Desired Settlement1. Refund for what I paid Fink's to set the ring.2. Replacement of the missing diamond 3. A clarification in policy for future customers so it is clear to the consumer that Fink's will not guarantee the work done by its jewelers.Business Response The diamond came out of the setting due to one prong being caught on something and moved allowing there to be enough space between the diamond and the prong for the diamond to fall out of the setting. The fact that the diamond remained in the setting for three months proves it was set properly. Had the workmanship been substandard it would have fallen out much sooner given the wear the ring shows after only three months of use. No company or jeweler can guarantee the wearer will not catch a prong on something causing the diamond or any stone to fall out of a setting. Accidents do happen which are no one's fault. In an effort to work with them on this unfortunate situation we will go ahead and refund the $150 they paid to have the stone set.Consumer Response This issue is still not resolved. Fink's responded to my fiance's [redacted]. She called the number Fink's provided and left a voicemail to discuss the issue, but no one has returned her phone call to date. We are also waiting to receive a report from my insurer [redacted], which we expect to provide analysis on the workmanship performed by Fink's. Final Business Response The store manager tried to give[redacted] a call however the call went straight to voicemail and the mailbox was full therefore he could not leave a message.
