To whom it may concern: Case [redacted] June 9/2016
May9,2016
[redacted] came into A1 Willys Parts place with his 1978 [redacted] class C motor home. [redacted] was wanting A1 willys to repair the wiring harness on his previously worked on Engine that he had rebuilt supposedly twice on his own.
At this...

time our mechanic spent 4hrs checking timing, firing order, charging battery, as well as repairing the wiring. The vehicle would not turn over fast enough to run.
May 10,2016
[redacted] came into the shop, he was updated on what was done and the status of his vehicle. The mechanic suggested changing the starter. [redacted] supplied a starter to be installed. The vehicle still would not turn over. Not knowing if the starter that was supplied was in working condition the mechanic removed the starter again and installed one of our working starters. Still the vehicle wouldn't turn over. The mechanic noted that after installing all starters and attempting to start the vehicle the starters were all very hot after only cranking for 15 0r 20 seconds. A socket was put on the crank pulley with a power bar, it was then noted that there was a serious internal problem.
It was suggested at this time to replace the engine with a good working used engine. There was a charge of 2hr for time spent working on the vehicle.
[redacted] asked what the charge would be to have a used motor installed. He was then quoted the following:
Used engine $700.00
13.5 hrs @115 labor $1552.50
time already spent $690.00
Towing $170.75
Gst $155.66
Total $3268.91
The labor included transfer oil pan, exhaust manifolds.
There would be an added cost for brackets, pulleys as needed, as well as fluids and filters.
[redacted] agreed with the quote, stating it was the most economical repair choice. A motor was located and ordered.
The original engine was removed, as well as the exhaust manifolds, oil pan, pulleys, and brackets as necessary. It was noted that the original engine was very dirty inside, misassembled connecting rods and bearing caps. The connected rods were mismatched and backwards. As well as looked like it had been hammered with something.
when [redacted] came in he was shown his motor and was explained that it was destroyed because of the uncleanliness and misassembled parts/rods.
[redacted] then informed the mechanic that his original motor had a new oil pump ,timing chain, thermos stat and cylinder heads. He was wanting these parts taken off his original motor and put onto the new used motor. He was advised against this. It was explained that in making these changes it would affect the suppliers warranty making it void as well as it would incur additional costs for the labor and new parts needed. [redacted] was insistent that he wanted the parts taken off his original motor and installed on the new one regardless.
Reluctantly the mechanic changed out the heads from the new and original motor . In doing this he found the bolt holes had no threads left by water jackets (the cylinder heads were destroyed) he then had to re install the original heads from the new motor. [redacted] was informed that he would still be charged for this labor. He agreed.
The customer also suggested we take the original motor to a machine shop. He was advised against this as well as it would require a complete dismantle and over haul as well as additional cost. He then agreed against this as he didn't want to pay for it.
The engine was reassembled using proper bolts, repair wiring and linkage. It was also noted that the crank shaft pulley had been previously bent by [redacted] from being removed improperly. The bent pulley was causing a noise We did not have a replacement for it. This was explained to [redacted]. He wasn't happy with the noise from the belt misalignment .
In conclusion
-We do not have a proper crank pulley that he expects us to put in. It had nothing to do with the motor installation that we did. The pulley was bent by [redacted] before entering our business.
-Due to all extra work removing cylinder heads twice ,repairing linkage, repair wiring, install hoses, finding proper bolts and spacers there was a total of 18.5 hours= $2125.50
-All additional work was ran by and insisted on by [redacted]
-[redacted] failed to mention to you that he himself and another person had cut the floor from the motor home and removed the original engine and dismantled it them self and tried to rebuild it twice before it was brought into our shop.
-It was also not mentioned that the motor home sat in the shop tying up our main hoist for two weeks straight causing us to turn away 80 working hours.
The bill that has been given to [redacted] is very fair considering the time that has been spent working on the vehicle, as well as that he agreed to have all work done. It was explained numerous times to him before and during all work.
