Review: I purchased a Firewire surfboard from a local retailer near my home in New Jersey. I used the board approximately fifteen times. During use, I noticed a pressure ding forming on the area of the board where I use my knee to duck dive. Use of one's knee to duck dive is normal and customary. If one Googles "duck diving with knee" you will find many articles from leading surf industry periodicals indicating that this is an acceptable technique. At some point, I noticed that the pressure ding became soft. I inspected the board and discovered that the epoxy had cracked. I took the board to the shop where it was purchased. They contacted the manufacturer, Firewire Surfboards. The board was inspected by their local representative. I spoke with him on the telephone. He treated me very poorly and talked at me as though I had no idea how to surf competently. They refused to replace the board. They instead offered to pay for the cost of repair. Negotiations regarding compensating me went on for approximately nine months. In the end, the board was repaired by the shop from which it was purchased. I was told the repair person has much experience repairing the type of board I purchased. After the repair was completed, I took additional measures to protect the area where the damage occurred. This proved ineffective. The repair failed. I went back to the shop and was told the product was defective. I communicated with both the shop and Firewire Surfboards via e-mail. Firewire rejected the shop's conclusion. I was told that nothing would be done for me. At that point, I asserted that I would file an action in small claims. The shop contacted me and told me they would advocate for me to have Firewire replace the board. Their efforts on my behalf were unsuccessful. Firewire remains unwilling to assist me. The shop is currently repairing the board. This is an unacceptable outcome. I would like Firewire to replace the surfboard.Desired Settlement: Firewire surfboards should replace the surfboard I purchased.
