First American Carpet & Rug Company, Inc. Reviews (1)

Review: First American Carpet arrived on 8/12/13 to install new carpeting in my vacant rental property. They were the only entity other than myself with access to the property that week. Upon my return to the property, I discovered that both thermostat units had been lowered to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. This caused the A/C units to be covered in ice, and for me to incur significant energy costs. During the install damage was done to an interior wall. First American Carpet did not notify me of the damage, instead a piece of tape was placed on the wall advising, "something fell on the wall". In addition, the carpet install was subpar. The carpet at the landing of the stairs was simply tacked over where it met the tile, causing me to have to install a transition strip myself for fear that the carpet would further pull away from the stairs and cause a tripping hazard. No transition strips were installed by First American Caroet. Where the carpet met the hardwood in the kitchen, carpet tacks would poke through and [redacted] someone's foot. And finally along the wall, there are sections of carpet that aren't secure and are coming up. When I contacted the employee [redacted] to inform her if these issues, she did not allow me to finish my concerns and advised that she would call back. When she called back, [redacted] advised that it was my word against hers in regards to the thermostat. She advised that the carpet installers did not touch the thermostat, and that someone else must have done it. I advised [redacted] that her carpet installers were the only ones with access to the property. To which she responded, "prove it." In regards to the damage to the wall, [redacted] advised that that sometimes happens, and did not offer any assistance with the matter.Desired Settlement: Although I feel that it is the responsibility of First American Carpet to properly repair the damage done to my wall, and fix the poor installation of the carpet, I do not wish to have them on my property again. I do however wish to be reimbursed for the electric bill I incurred due to their negligence in leaving both of my thermostats at 50 degrees Fahrenheit for over 5 days.

Response:

Dear[redacted],

Thank you for the telephone conversation of this morning and also your email regarding the above complain. Following is the fact respond to [redacted] complaint.

We installed carpet on 08/12/13 for [redacted] vacant property at [redacted] Fredricksburg Va.. I received a call from her a few days after the installation complaining that the installer left a couple of marks on the wall which was newly painted and they left a tape on the damaged area, also they lowered the thermostat unit to 50 degree F. (these were the only complaint). I told [redacted] that our installers are not allowed to touch customer's A/C unit and at the same time I said I will check with the installers and will get back to her.

Talking to installer he admit about the wall damage and he said he tried to find a left over paint to fix the wall since he could not find the paint he left a tape and note on it that he did the damage but he never touched the A/C.

I called back and talked to [redacted] to leave the pain out and the installer will come back to fix the damaged wall, she said already took care of it and no need for him to come back, but she still asked for the A/C and electric bill. I replied even though it is your word against his but you are our customer and asked her to send me an email explain the situation and First American Carpet will be happy to take care of that. I never received the email after a few days I followed up and left a message, still no reply. I called back again and was able to talk to her and told her to send me the email, in order to refund her needs to be forwarded to our main shop, she said she will which she never did, instead she send a complain to Revdex.com. She only had the wright to complain if she had received a negative respond from First American Carpet. I only can emphasis that our follow up was more than her concern.

She never complain about any installation problem. As I explained on the phone if there was any installation complain would have been corrected immediately. We have a full installation guarantee on any installation we do with immediate action.

We are still willing to take care of her electric bill (the difference with the previous month) if she email the two months bills be happy to refund her.

Respectfully,

[redacted]First American carpet
