I recently purchased a pre-owned Mazda CX-% Touring from Mazda of New Bern. I like the vehicle and believe and hope it serves me well. I am dissatisfied with the sales approach of agreeing to price and features and after the sale change their commitment. I went to dealership to look at a specific vehicle. I was clear on what I wanted, what I would spend and that I would not finance it. I understand there is some mistrust in this process but I approached this with clear expectations and information. After meeting and talking w/ 3 different people - 2 sales people and the general manager - an agreement on the amount I would pay was reached. We shook hands and, I thought, were going to move forward. A few minutes later the 2nd sales person came in and said I could have the vehicle at that price if I financed it. I had told them up front I would not finance. They told me they receive a couple of hundred dollars from finance company if people finance with them. I told them we agree on a price, shook hands and my expectation is that live up to their commitment. They would do so, they said, if I financed it with them. I said no and left. They called me in ~10 minutes telling me they misunderstood my position on financing the vehicle and agreed to the price we discussed. I was shown the vehicle on last time, front to back, inside and outside, including the cargo screen that hides packages in the cargo area. When I picked up the vehicle I didn't notice it was not in the vehicle until I went shopping later that day, put groceries in the back and reached for the screen, which wasn't there. I called the dealership and told them and asked when I could pick it up. I left a message, later sent and email and texted the sales person asking that he look at my email. He got back to me saying he would track it down and get back to me. He eventually did and said if I want the cargo screen they would sell it to me. It is not about the $ but the expectation that I was purchasing the vehicle including the cargo screen. They are interested in the sale but not the customer. I was a 1st time (and never again) customer but will not recommend the Mazda dealership in New Bern as I do not believe they will uphold their agreement, thus I have no confidence in them.
