First State Building & Design Reviews (7)

Good evening,
I am responding to the complaint made by a previous customer. I will address each point
The rail the current customer has is an inferior rail and we advised that they replace the rail as well and they chose not to. We also stated SPECFICALLY
that we are not responsible for damaged fascia boards as we also advised the customer to replace the fascia board as it was in extremely poor shape and it is likely pieces may get damaged during demo work.
They were also charged for a disposal fee as in every other project, then we elected to haul the removed decking away ourselves in the bed of our trucks to the local landfillWe paid for the disposal cost, our time to load and remove the material, giving a justified charge for a dumpster
We also stated that the supports had to be cut in order to replace the deck boards which was another reason why we advised to replace the rail. Customer decided not to.
We used deck boards for the top rail because it is a VERY VERY common practice to do so on certain rails. It is also a VERY VERY common practice to use the deck boards on stair stringers. (There is no other option than to use deck boards on the stairs. That is what you are supposed to use)
We communicated very effectively with the customer and stated we would stop down to fix the fascia board since it was a minor fix and take a look at the rails. Since after all we stand beside our company, even though these were things we told the customer before hand to replace. It being the high part of the spring season we were extremely busy and were weeks out in getting down to them. This was unacceptable to the customer
Thank You

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below
The business did respond immediately and sent a representative out to patch the driveway - about 60% of the driveway has been sealed I've asked the representative to complete the driveway so it isn't two different colors and he said he would do it The weather has held that off The representative did call me 6/to let me know he was waiting on stain to fix the patio
My complaint is not resolved but I am hoping for good things from the representative
Regards,

The matter has been resolved offline. A rep from our company went and fixed all of his complaints that the customer had.

Please let me know if you need anything else from me.

Thank you

The replacement of rail board was the direct result of the contractor's advice.  The facts he stated about all the "advice" he gave us never happened until the poor workmanship was "complete" and he then came up with the excuses.  See the picture of the damage to the step riser.  Does this look like incidental damage?  And where are the side skirt boards on the steps??  The fascia around the deck we did tell them not to bother changing, that is something we can do at our leisure. AND WHERE IS THE  5  YEAR WARRANTY???  If he is communicating with us, why do I have the certified letter I sent him in my possession, unclaimed by him?  We can show several unanswered e-mails.  I have many more photos but you only allow 4.  As for the inferior railing that was there, it was a TREX railing system and was professionally done by a different contractor.  They have the before pictures, see if he has the nerve to show them to you.  Is missing the rail and having a screw showing superior workmanship?  And why wasn't there a signature on the response?

Review: We contracted the company to replace deck boards. They suggested we change our railing boards

and we agreed. They failed to do the facia boards on one set of steps, damaged some porch furniture with caulk, used floor boards for stairs and railings, did not re-install the railing supports making the railings sag. They charged us for a dumpster that was never provided. Since February they have put us off, and now will not answer our calls or accept certified letter.Desired Settlement: Refund of costs to correct poorly installed materials.

Review: Pursuant to a Remodel Contract executed by [redacted] on behalf of First State Building and Design, LLC and my mother, [redacted], on July 3, 2013, they agreed to remove a window and install a new window, of the same size, at [redacted] residence. I had recently meet [redacted], a salesman for this company at the New Castle Chamber of Commerce and believed him to be a creditable contractor. After connecting [redacted] together they shortly thereafter executed said contract. They agreed [redacted] would pay half up front ($1000) and pay half at the end when the work was deemed satisfied by [redacted] After the work was done both [redacted] and I were astounded by the job they had preformed and were unsatisfied with their work to say the least. So much so that we hired [redacted], a certified home inspector, to come see the work and provide a write up of what he saw. [redacted] enumerated several reasons why the work performed was wholly unacceptable including the window was not the right size nor even installed level. Thus they failed to adequately install a new window, thus breaching the Remodel Contract. Moreover, they breached the sixth sub-section of the Contract Provisions section of the Remodel Contract, which states, Contractor is responsible for keeping a clean and safe site through duration of project. Pursuant to an e-mail and accompanying attachments of picture sent to them on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 12:03 P.M., damage was caused to [redacted] new stainless steel faucet during the removal or installation of the window. Weve attempted to resolve the matter with the owner of this company, [redacted] for several weeks. After several failed attempts of requesting a full refund for the work performed I hired an attorney, [redacted] to contact [redacted] has been unresponsive to both my attorneys phone calls and written correspondence. At this point Ive been left with no other option but file a complaint.Desired Settlement: I demand a full refund of dollars paid to them. Of course we'll return their window.
