I was shown the elevated monthly lease payment of $464-474 a month with $2000 down payment for a 2016 Jetta GLI SEL. This price is way too high for that vehicle; however I was not aware of that. Then Reggie said I didn't have to pay the down payment of $2000 if the monthly payment stayed at $475. After that he said he could pay off my lease $840 and give me another $1000, with the monthly payment staying at $475. This sounded like a great deal. After the deal was done and the contract was signed, the next day I built the same car on the Volkswagen website and noticed the price on the website was way lower then what I paid. I talked to Jason, one of the managers the next day, and he told me that the money moved from column A to column B. Column A being the discount and money up front that was given to me ($2000 down payment that I didn't have to pay, the $840 to pay off my lease and the $1000), column B being my monthly payments. Jason also said that this was normal practice for this dealership. I told him that Reggie did not explain this to me. I was very unhappy and upset at this point however our conversation stayed professional and we agreed to disagree. I asked to speak with the next higher up and was told he was on vacation until the next week. The next day I came in to pick up my check that Reggie said would be ready, my check was not ready and Reggie informed me that there was another manager that I could talk to, David. I explained the whole story to David and he wanted to know what he could do to smooth this situation over and make me happy. He also stated that showing an elevated price to begin to a customer was not a standard practice and he said this in front Jason. I said that I didn't think there was anything that could be done and I just wanted to give them the car back because I didn't think they deserved my business. David informed me that he would be willing to give me an extra $500 but I could not give the car back because the contract has already been signed. I said that I would accept it but that the $500 would not solve this issue. After I spoke with the two managers and then told Reggie that Jason told me that they moved the money from column A to column B, Reggie said that Jason should not have told me that because it wasn't good for the company. Reggie said he would talk to David because he felt like I was done wrong and he would call me. Well, he didn't call me back about that. The next week I spoke with David and he said he spoke with the vice president and they both agreed to give me an extra $500.
So this is the trick that was used to get me to buy the car. I was shown an elevated price to start off with and then given discounts afterward to make it seem like it was a great deal, however instead of giving me the discounts up front they just rolled the money I was given up front into my monthly payments.
When I dropped my car of for the windows to get tinted I was not informed that I would be renting a car from hertz. The process of getting picked up and going there to rent a car took 1 ½ hours and dropping the car off at hertz and getting a ride back took 2 hours. So 3 ½ hours of my time to drop my car off for 9 hours. If I would have known it takes that long I would have made other plans. The hertz guy that picked me up also said that everyone he picked up didn't know that they were renting a car from hertz. They thought they were renting a car from the dealership because this is what a lot of dealerships do and it is way more convenient for the customer. Hertz only had 2 vehicles to choose from. I'm currently leasing a car from BMW checkered flag and when I drop my car off there for something they haI still have not received my check for the money up front, Reggie has told me multiple times that my check would be ready and to come pick it up, the first time being the day after I purchased the car August 1st and the fifth time (not exaggerating) he said the check was ready and to come pick it up, about an hour later he called me and said that it was mailed to me, this was Tuesday August 16th. Monday August 23rd and still no check, I called Reggie and this time he said that the check was mailed Thursday the 18th. I've talked to Reggie so many times about this check I can't even remember all of our conversations about it. He keeps telling me that I should have it or I'll have it the next day. Wednesday August 24th comes and still no check. Reggie said that he would talk to the vice president and call me back, at 8 o'clock at night Reggie called and said that the vice president would be calling me in the next few minutes, he did not call. He called me the next day and when I got home a found my check in my mailbox, pretty sure it does not take 5 business days to send a letter from Chesapeake to Virginia Beach. However the check was $500 short, I informed Reggie of this and acted like he had no idea what I was talking about, I'm still waiting on my $500.
