Five Brothers Enterprises, Inc.

I learned of this company because they did some beautiful work on my neighbor's front stoop and walkway. The owner, David D[redacted], was very nice and we agreed about things like composting, etc. When one of the steps on my front stoop collapsed due to our horrible winters, I called him and he immediately came out and did a nice repair to get me through the winter with a safe stoop. I then made plans to demolish and rebuild the stoop, my driveway, and the tree pit on the margin in front of my house. David quickly came out, looked, and gave me a verbal estimate of $5,000. When winter ended and I tried to get in touch with him several times via voicemail and text to plan a start date, he was completely unresponsive. When I emailed him I did hear back and he said that yes he would do the job in a few weeks, but again, I never heard back from him and again, no response to voicemails. Eventually I tricked him into answering the phone by calling from a different number, and although he sounded like a boyfriend that wanted to break up with me but just didn't know how, he again gave me assurances, and again didn't follow up. I've now gotten three other estimates on the work which range from $10,000 to $20,000, and so I think I understand what happened: I think he realized his estimate was too low, and at that price he would take a loss. Rather than man up and just tell me that, he strung me along and hid. I could be wrong, but that is the only thing I can figure. If for some reason he decided he just didn't want to work with me, OK. Please just be direct with me. But all of this caused a substantial delay for me in finally getting the work done. Apparently he can be slippery. Beware.
