Five Star Home Inspections, Inc. Reviews (11)

First off I am very sorry to hear one of our clients was not completely satisfied with our services. We strive to please going above and beyond state inspection standards. However to address the issues:1. Balcony door has gaps. Gaps were small at the time of inspection and
weather stripping is an easy inexpensive solution.2. Dryer vent is disconnected. The dryer vents into the wall and is not visible beyond the wall. Since the property is a condominium the vent travels through common areas/walls. Dryers are not a built in appliance and therefore not tested during the home inspection (stated in the signed agreement)We did leave two voicemails for the client after she emailed us with no response

The door frame is damaged ages and cannot be fixed with weather strippingBoth my adult son and adult breather saw that the day I moved inThe weather stripping was rotting, my son noticed the door didn't latch/lock correctly and after a quick peel of rotting weather stripping, both he and my brother made me aware the frame and door would need replacedThe gaps at the top and bottom of the door are bigger than what appear, I've stuffed weather stripping in the cracks to keep the bugs atThe door doesn't latch correctly and the inspector would've noticed that I'd he'd used the door knobIf the company thinks this isn't just a weather stripping issue then they're not as good as I gave them credit for in the first placeThe dryer vent was never inspected even though there's a spot for it on the inspection reportIf it had been thoroughly inspected, they would've immediately noticed it wasn't connectedAs far as them leaving me me two voicemails, I've not received a single call from them much less a voice mailI would ask what number they're calling?

The complaint has been resolved.

We had no written contract with Buckeye House Painting.  Initially we had them give us an estimate on outside trim and window painting.  However, after we were told that we could be "worked in " between their other jobs (and rain), we begun having second thoughts about dealing with them.  By the time a comment was made about window wood damage and that they do not scrape nor stand behind their work with windows in our present condition, we wondered why they would paint them and why we should get them painted. Very shortly after this, Buckeye was  notified that painting over window rot/trim rot was not a good idea (as their representative had earlier point our the "rot" on the exterior). We paid for a power wash in the amount of $200 which Buckeye received for work done.  This was the ONLY work they did on our property. We filed a complaint with the Revdex.com after Buckeye claimed they had already ordered paint even though they knew we had no scheduled date to proceed and we had already told them promptly that there was not going to be any painting done.  After several rude phone calls and messages to my cell phone Buckeye employed threatening and intimidating tactics via numerous nasty messages recorded to my cell phone.  On one cell phone message we were told  that a "police report for stolen property" was something they could do against us.  I called our local Fairfield County Sheriff and got their assistance in watching our home in the event "Buckeye" came on our property.  We were never in possession of their paint nor have we stolen anything from them.  Harassing calls continued until Verizon put the "block" on their number.  Never have we dealt with such an unprofessional company, and this is the first complaint to the Central Ohio Revdex.com.  We do not owe them another cent for anything.Regards,

As stated in my previous response it seems that this homeowner has a mixed up memory of events.  When I was at her house doing a complimentary color consultation we specifically discussed start date, being the beginning of the following week, obviously weather dependent since it is all exterior work.  We also specifically discussed me ordering the paint, in the matching colors.  She then called the next day to cancel the job.  She then agreed with me to meet me on Monday at our office and bring a check for both power washing and the cost of the paint and pick her paint up.  If she is so adamant that she never told us to order the paint then why did she originally agree to meet me to pay for it and pick it up.  It wasn't until Saturday night at 9:00 pm when she left a message stating she had changed her mind and didn't feel that she should have to pay for the paint.    We did try to call this customer on her cell phone to attempt to remedy this situation without involving the Revdex.com, but were never harassing her.  She owes us money so like any other business we were following up to try to get her bill paid.  I now realize that is not going to happen.  The unfortunate thing is that because she is a customer and I am a business there is nothing that we can do about it, except take her to small claims court, which she knows would end up costing us more than it is worth, so once again a customer is taking advantage of a business with no recourse for the business.

The reason the customer has been billed for not only the power washing $200 (which they have already paid) but also the paint purchased for their project $188 is because she canceled the project after she approved the color and knew I was ordering paint for her home.  I called the homeowner to...

arrange the power washing, it was at this time that she asked me to come to her house to help her pick out a color for her front door and match the color for her exterior trim.  I made an appointment and went to her house on Wed June 3rd, the day after we had completed the power washing.  During this appointment her husband got their old can of trim paint and had me dry a sample of paint on a stir stick to use to match the color so it would be exact to the current color.  I also spent time looking over a few different blue colors for their front door.  [redacted] changed her mind few times on correct color of blue and while I was there decided she wanted to keep the front door color the exact color it is now.  Her husband then gave me the quart of paint to match the front door.  [redacted] then asked when I would be ordering the paint in case she changed her mind again on the door color.  I said "i'm going to order the paint this afternoon if you are sure on the color" at which point she agreed.  We also discussed sheen (flat vs. satin) and many other specifics about ordering the paint.  Not sure why they would give me their old paint cans to match and discuss colors/sheens and say they she didn't approve me ordering the paint.  At this color appointment we also discussed which day we could start the project.  I told her we could start the next day if the weather cooperated.  [redacted] informed me they would be out of town and would prefer to wait until the beginning of the following week, which was fine.  I left went to other appointments and had the paint made later that afternoon.  On Friday (2 days later)  [redacted] called and informed me that her husband had decided that they needed to get some wood rot taken care of around some windows before painting and wanted to postpone (BTW I was the one to mention to her that some window had damage on them and she may want to get it addressed).  She then said no I don't want to postpone, I want to cancel, mind you I had a crew set up to start her house in 2 days on that Monday.  I told her that was fine to cancel but she needed to cover the cost of the power washing that we had already done and the cost of the paint that I had already purchased.  She asked me to return the paint to the paint store, at which point I informed her that tinted paint is non-returnable.  She called the [redacted] store that I purchase paint from, then called me back and said "your right, can't return tinted paint"  she then arranged to come to my office with a check for both the power washing and paint and pick up the paint on Monday.  Saturday night at 9:00pm (1 hour after she filed this complaint)  when she knew the office was closed, she called and left a message stating that she didn't feel that she should have to pay for the paint, and for me to send her a bill for the power washing and that's it.  I attempted to contact her a few times since then, even offering to drop the paint at her house in return for payment.  She has yet to contact me back.  I feel that asking her to cover the cost of the work complete (power washing) and paint ordered specifically for her house in her specific color is more than fair.  Most companies would also charge a cancellation fee for canceling a project within 2 days of when it was suppose to start.
