Flat Iron Paving

Several years ago I contracted with Flat Iron Paving to asphalt my driveway. I left a check with my mother to pay them when the job was completed. When I arrived home, they had not carried the asphalt to the end of the driveway and yet had already taken the check and cashed it. I think approximately $9,000.00. When I contacted them and asked them what happened, they advised that they had run out of asphalt and would have to return to completed the job. They asked if I wouldn't mind waiting until they had another job in the area since the cost of originating product and getting it over to where we live would be prohibitive for the small area we still needed to have completed..I agreed to work with them in terms of timing. A few weeks went by and I didn't hear from them. I called and they said they were still trying to work out the details. This went on for months. I gave up and hired another paving contractor who completed the work. I have pictures and receipts for everything. Should have taken them to Small Claims Court. I would never recommend them.

I contracted with Flat Iron Paving some years ago to asphalt our driveway. I walked the entire length and width of our very long driveway with the senior member of the family (and his measuring wheel). They gave us a quote of $7,000.00. To make a long story short, we gave them the check (after they had nearly finished the job -- they ran out of asphalt) and they promised to return to finish the job. After several months and phone calls with the son, they never returned. Shame on me for never following up on this. Ended up paying another paving contractor to finish the work. I would never recommend this company.

Review: 1) 1-24-15: Asphalt sealing plus broken part (to be fixed)--quoted $2300 (if paid in cash). When asked for receipt, said had none in truck, but would be sent. Offered to reseal for an addl $1500 at this time.2) 2-13-15: Called asking for receipt, plus that broken part still there. I asked why road cracks still there, but said that that wasn't included in price.3) 3-12-15 Again called for receipt, and again asked that broken part be fixed4) 4-23-15: Again called about above--now excuses not in area, etc. etc.5) 5-3-15: Again called about receipt and repair6) 9-22-15: Again called about repair and receipt. Talked with son, **. Said he father would call me back--Never did.Since I've received no receipt, plus required cash, must be doing work under the table.He's still running ads in [redacted], with Lic. #[redacted]. Ad states "all work guaranteed".Did business with him on recommendation of one of my neighbors; otherwise NEVER would have chosen him or paid him cash!!!Desired Settlement: 1) I need a receipt for work (for $2300)2) The patch made to asphalt (that was in original quote)
