Unfortunately, the power surge at Mr***' home has caused multiple issues with his HVAC system. In every system we repair, we must go through a process of elimination. For example, we could not discover the control board was bad until the defective transformer was replaced.
Our suppliers had a long lead time for us to receive the control board. Within hours of us receiving the control board, it was replaced and system was operating while we were there and (as Mr*** stated) stopped working later. Now that the control board has been replaced, but the system is not operating, we believe the fan motor (another electrical component) needs to be replaced. In Mr*** condo unit, the furnace is located in a very tight space. To access the fan motor, the water heater and furnace must be removed. Essentially, it is the same amount of labor necessary to install a new unit. (Which is a viable option.)The manufacturer does have a warranty on the parts for usage. The warranty specifically mentions that it does not cover labor or any " Damage as a result of floods, fires, winds, lightning, accidents, corrosive atmosphere, or other conditions beyond Goodman's control."As with all manufacturer's warranty issues, Ayotte Plumbing Heating and Air Conditioning charge the customer for the replacement part when installed. When/if we receive reimbursement from the manufacturer, we will reimburse the customer for the part (less shipping, handling, etc). Please see the attached warranty.In this particular case, given the external condition that caused the electrical problems within the HVAC system, I expect the manufacturer to reject the warranty claim. Perhaps it would be in Mr*** best interest to file a claim with his insurance company.Note: This situation has occurred during heating seasonThe cooling portion of the HVAC system has not been tested
