Floor Mart agreed to install new kitchen, hallway & powder room floor; per contract "install new plywood to the level of the existing floor". During project, workmen told me a third layer of plywood was needed to even the area, otherwise, doors, baseboards, etc. would be off. I agreed. At no time during the project was I contacted re an extra cost. Within a couple of hours of the project's completion, however, owner contacted me stating an additional $1100 was being added to the contract cost due to additional materials and labor!

I met with the owner the following day to convey my anger and frustration at the lack of commitment to the original project cost, and the lack of communication re the need for a third subfloor. After a lengthy discussion, the owner stated he would split the difference of the cost; I agreed. He then said I should pay what I felt I owed; since I had agreed to split the difference, that is what I paid him.

Subsequently, I talked to several business owners who said the original contract price should have been honored, and if a problem like that occurred, they "absorbed the cost of the material and labor" unless the contract stated otherwise. In retrospect, I should have paid him only the remaining balance.

I would caution anyone else dealing with Floor Mart to be sure the contract specifies potential additional costs if an unexpected "glitch" occurs.

I will say that I was very satisfied with the installation and the two workers who did the installation.
