Harassing Practices by Contractors sent to perform services.
I have been a Customer of Florida City Gas for almost 10 years and never had any issues until now. I replace my water heater a few years back with a tank less water heater to receive a rebate from the gas company. Florida city gas came and checked everything and started service with no issues. In early 2018 I lost my job and went through some hardship and my gas was disconnected, once I paid they came restored service and no issue at that time.
In Mid October 2018 my gas was turned off without a prior disconnect warning. I paid immediately and request service to be restored. I was advised it was a $40 reconnect fee and as long as the technician did not need to enter my home no one was required to be there but if he do need to enter some one over 18 had to be there. On Monday Oct 22 I left a note stating no gas appliances was in the home and the Water heater is in the Carport. The Technician came out and did not reconnect stating no one 18 was home. I called FCG that evening asking if the tech did not need to enter my home why was the gas not restored. I was advised it is up to Tech to decided if he needs to enter my home or not. I told them he can decide all he want if he needs to enter but if no gas appliances are in my home then he do not need to come in. A appointment was rescheduled and the Tech came back Friday 10/26/2018. Now mysteriously the same water heater that has been in place a few years has Several Violations and I am being refused service. If FCG inspected this same water heater when it was first installed and connected service with no issues. The gas was turned off once before same water heater no issues. How is it now that I complaint about the technician and having to enter my home now I have all these Violations and my service is being refused and my bill is paid.
This is putting a strain on my family as I have school age children.
I have paid my bill and because there is no other alternative I am being forced to spend extra money.
Even the plumber who came to check the issue says he did not understand if it pass *** when it was first installed, what is the issue now.
I feel the Technician has a personal issue and place all these violations as retaliation for my complaint.

Desired Outcome

Restore my service or give detail explanation on why this same water heater pass *** when first installed but now that I voiced complaint on Technician it suddenly has violations.

Good Morning, we have researched the customers concerns and attempted to resolve this matter. Please note that a representative from Florida City Gas spoke with and visited the property located at 1110 NW 185th Terrace in Miami, FL XXXXX. We have been met with challenges in meeting with the customer and on two occasions we went to the property and found no one over the age of 18 to assist us, which is a requirement. The previous two technicians who visited the property both confirmed that the customers gas appliances were in need of repair, before the gas service could be initiated. *** stated that she intended to file for reimbursement via our rebate program, however, to date we have not been able to locate any filings. The account is no longer active at this time, however Florida City Gas remains available to go out and activate the natural gas service once the necessary repairs have been made.

Cancel Account with out justification
I filed a complaint against Florida City Gas Oct 30, 2018 #XXXXXXXX
After I filed this complaint now my gas account has been terminated for $6.09. I noticed I have not received a bill for Nov or Dec I tried logging into my account and it says account can not be found. I received a letter on 2/5/2019 stating I have not called to start service and If I need service to call. I called asking why do I need to start new service If I been here in the same home almost 10 years and already have account. That is when I was informed I was sent a bill October 29 and it was not paid so my account was dissolved for $6.09 and If I want service I need to start a new account and pay a new deposit.

This is Horrible and how can a utility company get away with treating people this way.

This reply is in response to the complaint filed by ***.

Ms.' gas was disconnected for non-payment on October 8, 2018. Florida City Gas (FCG) attempted to restore the service on October 26; however, several violations were detected on the water heater and it was red-tagged. Repairs were made to the water heater and the gas service was restored on November 8, 2018. Although the gas was restored at the property, Ms.' account de-activated (closed) in our system with a balance due of $6.09. When Ms. contacted our office on February 6, 2019, she was not aware of her closed account yet was informed of fees necessary to start a new account. Additionally, she was advised of the balance of $6.09, which she paid after the conversation with our representative.

After receiving the complaint and thoroughly reviewing the account, FCG determined that Ms.' account was de-activated in error. This prevented her from receiving any gas bills since the disconnection on October 8. The account has been re-activated as of October 8 and billed up to present for gas usage ($72.21). I spoke with Ms. on February 6 and advised that her balance of $72.21 is due on February 27, 2019. I extended an apology for the confusion, our error, and assured her that no additional fees were added to the account. Feel free to contact me should you have any additional questions.

Denial of service after payment in full
I am a customer of FL City Gas in good standing at my current address for almost 15 years. Received bill indicating an overdue amount, requesting payment by Aug 1, 2018. Scheduled autopay accordingly, to pay on July 26, well in advance of the due date. On 7/26, Fl City Gas disconnected service without notice of termination. On 7/27 (after discover of no gas) I called, confirmed payment was received, and requested reconnect. Fl City Gas will not reconnect until Jul 31 - thus denying service for 4 days after receipt of payment in full. This presents an undue hardship on my family, and we are forced to obtain alternative lodging during this 4 day period, at great expense. This is no way to treat a customer who has never been an issue for 15 years.

Desired Outcome

I have not yet decided whether to collect expenses related to the 4 day delay and seek damages. But in consideration of this delay in reconnect, Fl City Gas should waive all reconnect charges and late fees. A written apology, with indication that they are working to establish a process to consider/recognize long term customers by calling them when there is risk of termination of service, and prioritizing reconnects so that such delays/lapses in service do not occur should be implemented.

Florida City Gas Response • Aug 02, 2018

Here is an outline of events as it relates to Mr.' gas service:

July 11, 2018 - A bill generated with a total bill balance of $***; the past due portion was $***. The bill provided a reminder notice that "We regret that we will shut off your service if we do not receive your overdue balance of $*** immediately. " (our standard reminder on the bill) Additionally, a separate disconnect notice was sent.
July 26, 2018 - No payment was received and the service was interrupted.
July 27, 2018- A payment of $*** was made and a reconnect order was issued for July 31. The following fees were quoted: a $*** reconnect fee and a deposit of $*** to be billed in three installments.

When this complaint was received on July 27, I contacted Mr. and had to leave a voicemail message. We spoke on July 31 and our technician arrived at his home to restore the gas service. Mr. is a tenured customer with only three late payments within the last year. As a courtesy, I agreed to waive a $*** collection fee, $*** reconnection fee and the deposit of $***. Mr. was satisfied with this resolution. Feel free to contact me should you have any questions or concerns.

Thanks,

Florida City Gas Response • Jul 18, 2018

As it relates to the complaint filed by ***, several voicemail messages were left for her to contact me to no avail. I reviewed her account and, prior to the complaint, Florida City Gas had corrected the service address as the post office has it listed:

***
*** XXXXX

Additionally, several late payment charges and a $25 collection charge were waived as a courtesy. The account is on paper and the current balance is $-58.12. Feel free to contact me should you have any further questions or concerns.

Thank you,

This is the worst service company in Florida. I just have to use them because I have no other option. Their connect or reconnect service takes between 5 to 10 business days and they don't care about it. I been with them and had a disconnect since the bills did not arrived to my house. Confirmed by their customer service that mail was being return, they did not even call me and they have my number on file, they just went and disconnected the service. I attempted to create an account on their web page and good luck with that one. After I was able to pay via western union, no one showed up to reconnect so I called and they told me that I needed to call to let them know that I needed to reconnect. They gave me a reconnect date 6 days after I paid, so you can imagine having no kitchen or hot water for so long.
In addition, they don't return calls, they just don't care and I guess so does upper management.
I sent 3 unanswered e-mails.
Look at all the reviews on Google, they are about 99% negative with the same complaints.
