Florida Heat & Air Reviews (%countItem)

Price gouging for labor on warranty work.
This company installed a new central air and heat exchanger for us 5 years ago. These units came with a 10 year warrant. When the units were installed the technicians never checked to see if the heat worked. We lived out of state until the end of 2018 and have never used the heat so we assumed it worked fine since it was installed as a brand new unit. Also after installation we suffered water damage to the drywall in our garage due to a poor installation of the drain pipe which they never offered to compensate for or repair. We also have a maintenance plan with this company. Last year we had to replace the central air at a cost of over $2000 because they told us the labor to repair it would be over $2000. We did not contest that. In February when their tech came to do the scheduled maintenance he found that the heat did not work, when he turned it on it blew a transformer in the unit at a cost of approximately $200 to us. He deemed that the thermostat was wired wrong. Mind you had they tested the unit upon installation they would have found this problem at that time. 3 days later our a/c did not work. The tech came back and found that the transformer was blown again which we had to pay for again and he determined the heating element was bad. He then tried to tell my husband that the unit was out of warranty. This was 5 days less than 5 years on a unit with a 10 year warranty. It took until 2 days ago (and several phone calls and in person visits to their office) to get this part which was under warranty replaced. The technician was here for approximately 30 minutes and we were charged $524 for labor. After checking with other comparable heating and a/c contractors we have found out that this labor charge should have been between $150 and $200. We contacted Dan at Florida, Heat and Air explaining this and telling him that their labor charge was price gouging and more than double their competitors and he refused to do anything to remedy the situation citing that he had to pay someone to pick up the new part and drop off the old part. This is warranty work and we have paid them $874 in less than 3 months for the same problem and they refuse to do anything about it. I feel they have price gouged well above and beyond what is an acceptable rate to charge. Based on their charges they are saying that their labor is worth $1048 per hour.

Desired Outcome

I expect to be refunded $324 for the labor from the last visit as well as $350 for the previous two visits due to their incorrect diagnoses of the problem and the fact that they never tested the unit upon installation.

We explained what was involved and the cost to do so multiple times. The labor involved is billed at 5 hours flat rate. Total hours involved with the original call, picking up the part, installing the part, returning the warranty part & associated paperwork came in at just over 5 hours. The customer at any point could have called another company for a second opinion and used them.

I use Florida Heat & Air for the company I work for & for my condo. For the office they call every 6 months & make an appointment & for problems, they are there ASAP! Tito V. is absolutely the BEST!!!! Called ahead to let me know he was running late & the time I could expect him. Made sure he put on shoe coverings & was very thorough inside & outside. Explained everything he was accomplishing....never had such thorough 6 month check on my air conditioning !!! Florida Heat & Air is the company & Tito V. is the man!!I They also send out 6 month check up cards for your home or condo.

The heat recovery unit was wired incorrectly by the electrical contractor causing damage to the pump motor. The motor was wired to never shut off, it's only supposed to run with the condenser, this allows it to cool. FBC does not allow us to install or connect any electrical components, therefore a trip and diagnostic charge of $79 was given.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
So, Florida Heat and Air installed a faulty heat exchanger as part of a new home built by Paul Homes located in Cape Coral, Florida.

Florida Heat and Air knew the exchanger was wired incorrectly and left it like that for Paul Homes of Florida to pass along to the consumer. They then charge the new homeowner for a service call only to report it was incorrectly installed.

What a class company Mr. G. operates.
