Florida Leak Locators Reviews (%countItem)

I had a slow leak in my pool, and called Florida Leak Locators in Largo. It took a couple of days before they could get out to see me. Bud came out, on time, and spent a considerable amount of time trying to find the leak. He saw some suspect grout and sealed it up. He also advised that he suspected a problem in the light fixture. He set up the bucket test to verify that the grout issue was the source of the leak. Unfortunately 24 hours later, it was obvious that water was still leaving the pool. Bud came back out and and was able to locate a leaking conduit from my pool light. He was able to seal it up from inside the pool light fixture, and 3 days later, no loss of water from the pool. Bud was polite and professional, cleaned up after himself, and was on time. I spoke to the office staff twice, and they were always polite and helpful too. I recommend this company.

If Revdex.com had more stars I would compliment this company to the maximum.
I do not ordinarily write reviews but this company's service was extraordinary. They never quit until they found the leak in my pool. Most unusual team and other
service companies could improve their business by following ,Florida Leak Locators work ethic.

Thank You so Much! In today's world, we often hear the negative more than the positive so it's always refreshing to get a review like this. Thank you for your business. And don't forget to tell your friends about us.

technician never did what the company told me he would do during inspection. quoted me $1800 for repairs on an item not needing repair. fixed for $6.
had technician TR come out in July, 2018 to find a leak in my inground fiberglass pool. He spent about 15 minutes there. He put some dye near all of the return fittings and told me that both of my 1023 fittings are bad and he recommended replacing them. He quote me $1800 for them too do the work. The charge for this inspection was $295. He never left the inside of the lanai area, never checked the pump area, never checked around the pool or in the yard where I told him the yard was flooding from the pool leak. He never went inside the pool and checked for leaks as I was told he would do by the girl that answers the phone in the office. I was also told that he would use some sonic testing equipment to test "ALL" of the plumbing underground and around the pool area for leaks which he did not do any of it. I asked about some approx. of costs of repair. First she told me that many times it is the main drain in fiberglass pools and that they will just plug the main drain plumbing since I don't need a main drain. And that repair will be included in the $295. She also mentioned that if a return needs to be replaced it will run approx. $800.
So my main problem is that they lied to me and tried to charge me for repairing a fitting that I also did not need. I called a few other places to get another opinion and was told that the leak was in the fitting that was used to vacuum the pool. He then told me that if I really wanted it repaired he can do it for $600 but he did not see why I would want to fix it since I do not really need it. He said I can vacuum the pool using the suction line from the skimmer. He then said that many pools don't even have a separate fitting for just a vacuum. He fixed it in about 2 minutes with a $6.00 plug that he inserted in the vacuum line. Since he fixed it I have never had to add water to it and it's been almost 60 days.

Desired Outcome

refund

First off, we apologize for any inconveniences that we have caused you. We came into the office on Monday (10/15/18) and found this report/review on numerous Websites. To say the least, we were very surprised. This is a first for us. This job was performed in July 2018 and not once has there been any contact on your part regarding your concerns.
When booking a job it is not our intention to mislead or to lie to any customer. Every job is different and every resolution is different.
We take these rare customer service issues very seriously and value your opinion.
The owner of FL Leak has made multiple attempts to contact you via phone and left numerous voicemail's in an attempt to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. Our "A" rating in Revdex.com attests to the fact that we take our customer service issues very seriously and that we value the opinion of our customers. We realize that we cannot make everyone happy 100% of the time, but we do appreciate the opportunity to make it right and come to a mutual resolution that would benefit all parties involved. We can't take corrective actions without communication from our customers.
With that being said, we have issued a refund check for the FULL amount of the Leak Test and it has been mailed in hopes that this will show our concern and desire to resolve this issue promptly.

Outstanding, next day, on time service at a lower price than competition. Tech, Rob, was friendly and professional and worked tirelessly for two hours to locate the leak - in an unusual and hard to detect location. He then repaired the site causing the leak and also did a no charge cosmetic repair to a non-leaking but ugly crack between two coping tiles. My bucket test confirmed that my pool is no longer loosing water. Great service, great value - highly recommend. 10-7-18

Sincerely,

Florida Leak Team

I believe I have been grossly overcharged for the work that was carried out. Paid $1600 for less than 5 hours work.
Florida Leak Locators came to locate a small leak in my pool and discovered 2 cracks which they quoted $1600 to fix. As I had no idea of what was a reasonable price and they were telling me that the cracks were structural and could result in the pool cracking in half, I accepted the quote.
They did the work which then cost me $300 to locate the leak and then a further $1600 to staple the cracks. They spent a total of four and a half hours maximum to install 4 steel staples and fill the cracks.
Subsequently I was told by another company that they would have done the job for $250. I was amazed at the difference in price (over 6 times what I paid). Now this price may well be far too low but surely $1600 is far too high for less than 5 hours work and a few materials.
As far as I can tell they have done a good job (apart from not cleaning the debris out before filing the pool) but I would like your advice on whether this cost seems excessive to you.
I was also told that the repair was guaranteed for a year, but my subsequent receipt shows only 60 days, although my quote does say 1 year, so I am not sure which is correct.
I contacted the company before they did the work to question the price, but was assured that it was valid and reasonable. I have not contacted them subsequently.
I only live in Florida for part of the year and will be going back to England at the end of this month. However I would appreciate an email reply. I will be returning to Florida in October.

Desired Outcome

I would like the company to give me a refund. I am not sure what is a reasonable amount but as I have been quoted $250 by another company (which *** well be low) I would suggest the figure somewhere between $250 and $1600, say $800. I would be happy with this which would still give the company $800 for less than 5 hours work by one man - around $175 per hour. They also had $300 from me for locating the leak so I am sure they won't be making a loss.

First of all we would like to apologize for any inconvenience or confusion on our part in this matter. We strive very hard to keep our customers happy as our past reviews reflect over the years. We do appreciate that the customer thinks we did a good job. After looking at the customers records I have found these results:
The Leak Test Charge was a standard $295 fee (invoice attached).
Please see our Leak Test Proposal that is provided to any customer that requests it:
Florida Leak will listen for the leak in the pool with electronic equipment, do a full surface inspection, and test the plumbing lines. If the initial tests show a problem with the plumbing lines we pressurize them to pinpoint the problem(s) (no additional charge for pressurizing the lines). We will also dive the pool to check for leaks if needed. If we find a minor repair inside of the pool/spa that can be patched or sealed (excluding structural problems, beam cracks or regrouting) this service will be included in the price of $295. This is based on a residential pool with no additional water features.
Upon arrival on April 23, 2018 our Tech listed these results:
Static tested all plumbing lines - lines test good. Dove pool. Light and drain test good. Major leak located at 2' structural crack running directly over middle of light. There is a sister crack on the house side, not leaking at this time. Temporarily sealed with 2-part epoxy to help minimize water loss until repair can be made.

We prepared a Repair Proposal (attached) which explains what we will do and the warranty as well. This document requires a signature before the work proceeds. Please see an excerpt of it below.
PROPOSAL CRACK INJECTION REPAIR $ 1,700.00
LEAK DETECTION CREDIT -$100.00
TOTAL COST $ 1,600.00
Florida Leak will: LOW PRESSURE CRACK INJECTION
Drain pool to needed level
Prep surface and crack
Install injection ports over cracks and seal outer surface of crack
Inject low viscosity urethane into injection ports to seal crack
Install Staples as needed
Remove injection ports after low viscosity urethane cures

We do not match or refinish the surface. Surface will be brought flush with existing surface unless customer notifies us in writing prior to repair to leave short for refinishing. Customer is aware that the pool *** need to be partially or completely drained to perform repair. Do not heavily chlorinate pool. Chlorine level in the pool should be allowed to dissipate prior to the repair day. Customer is responsible for re-filling and rebalancing pool when complete.

We immediately begin filling pool and replace hydrostatic plug upon completion of repair. If customer is having surface patched or remodeled after repair and requests for the pool to be left empty customer agrees that they immediately assume complete responsibility for the safety and integrity of the pool including any potential injuries from falls into an empty pool or pool lifting (pool pop) problems and replacing hydrostatic plug and re-filling pool. It is the customer's responsibility to coordinate any additional third party work after the crack injection repair.
This proposal was signed by the customer(attached) which gave us permission to come out and drain the pool the day before at no charge of course. We came back the next day and performed the repair. The Technician left between 1pm and 2pm. We do not nor have we ever charged by the hour.
When we start a job we don't know how long it will take or what we may run into. We could run into tree roots, pipes, electrical lines or rocks. If the job is 5 hours or 10 hours we do not typically charge more than the quote that the customer signed.
The Proposal also states that we give a one year guarantee on our repair.
We are Licensed Contractors that are trained to do this type of work. We are Specialists in what we do. There is no Licensed Contractor in our field that will charge only $250.00 unless there are some special circumstances like just sealing the crack with epoxy and hoping it will hold long enough to get paid. I would question such a large difference in cost or even get a second quote if necessary.
We stay competitive in our field in some cases coming in hundreds of dollars less than some of our competitors. We do not nor will we ever bully anyone into doing any type of repair work that is just not our style. Please note there was an eleven day span between the Leak Test and the Repair. There is plenty of work to go around and there is no hard selling here.
While we are very sorry our customer is unhappy about the price but happy with the work we have done on their pool. We appreciate the business but stand by our work and our prices.

Customer Response • Jun 04, 2018

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I accept that FLL do not charge by the hour, however surely any job comprises 3 elements - Labor charge, Materials charge and profit. I would have thought that the materials would not be more than say $200, if that and allowing a labor charge of say $300 (4 hours at $75 per hour) that would mean a profit of $1300 which I still maintain is excessive. In total I paid $1895. In fact the technician who did the work arrived at 8.00am and left at 11.30am so there was really only 3 and a half hours work that day.
However I can see that FLL is not willing to consider any refund and I will have to put this down to experience. I shall always get 3 quotes in future so I have learnt something there.
I hope the repair lasts and if not, that the 1 year guarantee is honored. All in all this has been a bad experience for me.
