Flowers Plantation Information & Sales Reviews (2)

While the [redacted] (a B&B) at Flowers Plantation (FP) is an absolutely beautiful venue, the owner/management did not uphold their original agreement in fulfilling their promise/agreement to us. We booked our event with a one-half deposit in early June 2016. Before mid-July their event coordinator was no longer employed there. (FP employment turnover rate, by the way, is high.) I have much email documentation that supports we reserved the venue in early June 2016 (with a receipt) for a weekend wedding event of October 1. The owner called me on July 12 after previously telling me we were undercharged. I offered to look for a new location at that time and she said by phone in the presence of a witness "we're fine with the pricing and that we will make this a special event for you..." She went on to say that we'd meet in August. On August 12, 2016 in a less than cordial meeting at FP, I was informed by the FP Rental Agent that the Inn had been rented on an upcoming and ongoing monthy basis to another individual (overlapping our venue) and that the individual would need to move out of the Inn the weekend of our event, which came across as my problem, not theirs. I asked when did this happen? ... i.e., when was the Inn rented to a second person during the same time frame? The CEO said it happend last week (first week in August). This is double-booking any way you look at it, although I was fine with that arrangement if I could have gotten clear confirmation that things were going to go as originally planned. I was never able to get assurance that the venue would be ours on the dates we had reserved it. I was advised by two knowledgeable people (one from the [redacted] office) to work up a "receipt" detailing mutually agreed upon details, including the fact that another tenant was to occupy the Inn and vacate it during our event, etc. We actually presented this receipt/agreement to FP days ago and tried to pay our balance due then with a credit card. This angered FP and unreal restrictions were put upon us. FP did not like the term "double-booking" and referred to it as a negative comment. Knowing that more than likely this company would wait until September 12, 2016 to pull the rug out from under us, we took them up on their two or three time offer to get our deposit refunded, which we did yesterday. September 12, 2016 is the EXACT date that FP wanted: (1) the final payment; (2) the option to tell us if we could rent a tent or not; and (3) the option to approve our final number of guests. This has caused us stress, time, more expense, and shock that anyone professing to run a reputable business would pull a stunt like this. We were even blamed in writing for FP's loss of income at the [redacted] for the months of July and August 2016, which is far from the truth. (Incidentally, the event coordinator who had booked our event in early June had four people at FP review and approve pricing before she could put the price on our event agreement.) The venue has been used for many types of events in the past, including wedding venues; but it appears lately FP has decided they can bring in more revenue by ongoing monthly rentals. Their business practices are not ethical, and I'm sure those who have caused this problem for us would be outraged if anyone treated them like this. We were able to find a venue that will actually work better for us. Finding a new venue and getting approval for the same caterer at the new venue was not easy. I'm now in the process of notifying approximately 65 people in writing that the location for our wedding has changed. How awkward is that? I would say visit the [redacted] ONLY if someone else has booked the venue and enjoy yourself, given that you don't have to deal with the management. An apology is due to us from FP, not to mention we've lost a nominal amount of money in replanning our wedding details, although I seriously doubt we will receive anything to our favor. I would have appreciated it if the owner had told me back on or around July 12 (BEFORE any invitations were mailed), to please look for another location as their plan was to rent the [redacted] Inn on a monthly basis. My main objective in writing this review is for Flowers Plantation to use honest, reputable business practices in the future toward all...and to hopefully prevent someone else from getting burned by them. This is an honest account of a real experience. Money is nice, but integrity is priceless!
