After my husband joined the military we gave our landlord 1 month notice that we will be leaving. After we left our landlord called the recruiter and acted as though he had no idea. Our security deposit was $1,400.00 and we received $184.00 back a month later. We were charged for a painting service, cleaning services and turning in keys late. However we have proof that this is false. I am disappointed that a landlord would treat a military family this way.
~The lease contract between *** and *** was signed for one year starting on May 1,2019 to April 30, 2020.~As per lease, we need a 30 day written notice which was never provided. We did however get verbal notice around the beginning of January 2020 that *** was going to Coast Guard hopefully in February 2020 if his orders would come in.~Since *** din't have straight answers I asked if I could call the recruiter to find out details around mid January. The recruiter told me at that time that *** didn't have his orders yet and to treat him like a tenant still.The orders from the Coast Guard came in on February 5, 2020.~I asked about his girlfriend staying but he said no and that they got married. they never informed us of that to change the lease contract.~They told us that by the end of January 2020 they would have everything out and clean. And at that time would return all keys. That wasn't true because we have proof with text messages. We didn't do a walk thru until February 6, 2020 and at time got the keys back. In the townhouse there was still food in the frig, furniture and other trash in the kitchen and in the basement. Also saw damage to bedroom walls from stickers they tried to pull off and damaged drywall. Also saw two doors damaged with small holes. We had bills for repaired for walls, doors and paint. Bill for removal of trash and furniture and clean after. Bill for extra days until we got keys back. All which was outlined and with proof of invoices sent to them on February 24, 2020, which is within the 30 days after we had the keys back from them. Also as per lease contract, we needed a new address to send security deposit back which was never provided until we asked for it on February 21, 2020.~We have proof with everything we mentioned; pictures, text messages, and witnesses that did the work.
