Expire eggs

Review: I've been a shopper at Food plus for over 13 years. It used to be C-Town. I went into the store to grab a few items that I needed. When it was time for me to pay, there were only 3 open registers, 2 regular registers and the express lane. The regular registers had long lines with people having full carts. So I went to the express lane. There was no line and only one gentleman who was finishing paying. I probably had about 12-13 items. The express lane caters to 8 items or less. Since there was nobody behind me, I had put my items on the belt. The cashier told me that he would not ring me up. I simply told him "come on, there's nobody behind me and the other lanes are very long and it's not like I have a lot of things". He replied to me that I have to get on one of the other lines because he would not ring me up. I told him that I've been coming here for 13 years and usually they would ring me up. He said he would not. So I removed my items from the belt and asked to see the manager. He stepped away from the register to go look for the manager. when he came back, he was already telling the manager some story. So I told the manager what the situation was. He pointed to the sign that said 8 items or less and told me that I have to get on the long lines. I repeated the same things I told the cashier and he would not give me that courtesy. And I was literally speaking to his back because he did not face me. So I told him that I might as well no longer come to the store and he replied to me that it would be a good thing. So I walked out leaving all the items in the cart for them to reshelf. I feel that they are comfortable doing those things to customers because they are the only [redacted] store in the area, so we are stuck with them. I never had any problem with them before, as a matter of fact, other managers have been courteous enough to provide me with empty cardboard boxes when I was moving, I have always dealt with kind people in that store. This is just one isolated incident. I shop in several places where they have express lane policies, but when the lane is empty, the usually bend as a courtesy to the customer. If they had said "ma'am I will ring you today but next time, it will be easier that you go on the other lanes because we became stricter with our rule" I would have accepted that. The cashier was not rude in any way, he only refused, but the manager was beyond rude and nasty. I cannot find a corporate office to complain and I don't want to write to the supermarket's address because I feel that my complaint would not reach the right person.Desired Settlement: For them to bend their express lane rule, at least a little to accommodate customers, especially when they have only 2 other registers open on a Sunday.

Response:

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing in regards to complaint ID [redacted]. In the complaint, the customer states that when she was shopping on Sunday, September **, 2013; only two regular lanes and one express lane was open at the time that she was there and that the regular lanes had long lines. Since the lines were long she chose to go on the express lane that caters to customers with 8 items or less. The cashier told her that the lane is express and that she would have to go on the other lanes. The customer did ask to speak to the manager and the manager did acknowledge that the express lane was empty. The manager pointed out that the other two lanes were available and that the lines were not long. The reasoning behind her not being allowed to check out on the express lane is because she had more items than she claims to have had and in past incidents other customers would get upset that the express lane is being used as a regular lane and would yell amongst each other or at our employees. We have had incidents where customers have gotten into a physical altercation with one another and the police were called. If a customer has one or two more items we have no problem allowing them on the lane but once they go a little over we ask them to please go to one of the other lanes. The customer also claimed that the manager gave her his back while speaking with her and that is not true. We have video cameras throughout the store and one of the cameras caught the whole incident, in which you can see the customer had more items than she claimed, that when the she spoke with the manager he was speaking with her directly face to face, and that the other two lanes were not long as she claimed. We treat all our customers with the respect and the dignity that they deserve.

Thank You

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

[Your Answer Here]

I did state that I had more than 8 items but they were not that many. I do understand that if there were customers on the express lane I would have not gone there. The manager was very rude and he did turn his back to me, not during the entire conversation but while I was still speaking to him, he did. As I also stated, it is not the first time that I had a few more items and there was no problem. This is the first time that I felt disrespected in my 13 years shopping at that store. The first and only time. My big issue with this situation is that the manager was rude and all I asked for was an apology. If the treatment I received from the manager is deemed respectful, I have nothing else to say.
