Thank you for your letter informing me of Mr. [redacted]’ complaint.   In my 43 years of performing R.V. repairs, this will only be the second time that a customer had complained about...

my services. Mr. [redacted] was referred to me by one of his friends. This friend has been a long time, repeat customer. And I assure you that had he not been thoroughly satisfied with my work, he never would have referred Mr. [redacted] to me.   When Mr. [redacted] dropped off his 5th wheel, I did give him an estimate of approximately $1,000.00 to perform the requested work. He asked me to check that the air conditioner seal was positioned tight to the roof, clean/treat the roof and slide-outs, replace sewer vent on roof, replace bathroom vent cover, clean and seal vents and seams and check awning operation.   The work performed exceeded the original estimate by $346.00. On the day that Mr. [redacted] arrived to pick up his unit after the work had been completed, he seemed reluctant to pay me. Apparently, we did have a miscommunication regarding the amount of the estimated versus the total due. He borrowed $300.00 from one of his passengers and said he just didn’t have the other $46.00 to give to me then. I said that was fine; he could take his unit and drop the other $46.00 off at his convenience.   A few hours later, he called and claimed that the roof was leaking around the air conditioner. I informed him that possibly the drain ports in the air conditioning pan might be clogged. This was not a part of the air conditioner that I worked on. (He has not asked me to do any service on the outside of the air conditioner.) All I had done was to remove the interior shroud to access the anchoring bolts and tightened the loose bolts. Then I opened slide-outs and proceeded to wash (with water), clean and treat (with conditioner) the rubber roof. After that, I went inside and checked the air conditioner seal to make sure it was water tight and re-installed the interior shroud; everything was dry. In our conversation, he said he had tighten the bolts because they were loose. I had already tightened the bolts and this was not necessary for him to do.   In regards to his other complaints: ·         Bathroom clog – to my knowledge the drain was clear when he picked up the unit. ·         Awning – the only problem with the awning is operator error (mis-alignment as he is rolling it closed). ·         Roof – cleaning and treating the rubber roof does not remove the chalking as this is a natural condition with these types of roof that happens over time.   I told him to bring it back in and I would inspect the areas he was concerned about. He refused and complained that the total due was more than the estimate had been. At a certain point in our conversations, I could see that he didn’t really want me to solve his problem. He simply did not want to pay what the job was worth. In order to try to give him some satisfaction and bring this to a close, I informed him that I would give him a check for the $300.00 which he had paid above the original estimate amount and asked him to come pick it up. He refused and demanded that I mailed it. The following day, it was in the mail to him. I called and let him know that.   It is regretful that I was not able to make Mr. [redacted] happy. He refused to bring it back so that I could address his issues and make any necessary corrections. I’ve already given him a refund of everything he paid above the amount of the original estimate. I feel that I have done everything a responsible business man should do in order to satisfy my customer.   Sincerely,   [redacted] Foothill R.V. Repair   Faxed on August 22, 2015
