Foothill Sanitary Septic and Grease Reviews (1)

Review: In the process of selling our home, Foothill Sanitary came out to do an inspection on our septic system. When tested, it was discovered we had one broken pipe (apparently broken during initial installation in 2004). Also, two of the three laterals were not allowing water to flow through, and Foothill told me he thought the two laterals were blocked. However, they did not try to unblock those two laterals and they failed the septic field saying it was not working(not the whole system just the field). Per county requirements, we had to hire an engineer ($2,730), get a permit ($680), and a contractor to do the field ($6,900). When the project was almost done, the contractor said water was still not flowing in the two new laterals and suggested we call someone to check the pump. I called [redacted] and within 5 minutes they discovered the problem was the metering valve was situated to low compared to the pump, therefore creating a suction which would not allow water to flow in those two laterals. There was nothing wrong at all with the old field. Foothill was up at the same pump several times and either didn't know about this problem or ignored it. If this is their professional business why didn't they also detect this? We have spent $11,095 for a new field which turns out was not required! (We also had to pay $785 for Foothill). Instead, [redacted] fixed the metering valve level for $200/$300 (haven't gotten their bill yet).Desired Settlement: I think Foothill should pay for the entire project since it was their negligence to properly solve the problem!

Response:

In regards to the email with ID#[redacted], Foothill Sanitary stands firm on our inspection findings dated 10/14/15 and 10/23/15. The first inspection 10/14/15 a large green wet spot was noticed by our inspector and was told by the homeowner it was a natural spring, when in fact it was a broken feed transfer line that was allowing raw untreated effluent to flow above ground. This alone FAILS a septic system automatically. This was also noted in our report, other repairs to the tank where also noted. Until further investigation could be done a report was issued and noted system FAIL 10/14/15. On 10/23/15 a further line investigation was performed. After repairing the broken feed line Foothill tried to flush the laterals. The top and bottom lines flushed, but not the middle line. Through the clear PVC plastic piping leaving the hydro static valve, effluent could be visibly seen passing as each pump cycle changed lines. The middle line still would not flush. After performing an industry standard load test, effluent surfaced in multiple areas of the leach field (see pictures). Also noted was exposed trench rock in several areas (see pictures). Evidence of capping fill was almost non-existent and very obvious that large hoof stock has been kept over the entire leach field area (see pictures). Large livestock is not recommended to be on leach field areas due to compaction and destroying leach fields. Foothill has photos of the valve, field, rock and horse prints and manure. The determining factor for FAILING this leach field was the condition of field; surfacing effluent, exposed trench rock and large animal damage. Foothill Sanitary stands firm with our findings. Thank you [redacted] (Owner)

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: Their reply only leads to more questions. How can Foothill say the effluent could be seen passing through the pvc pipe as each pump cycle changed lines, when in fact, because of where the original metering valve was placed, was not changing lines at all, but instead was only emptying into one lateral?! According to [redacted] that valve has not worked properly since it was installed in 2004. And because of the valve failing to work properly, the other two laterals have never been used. Now their saying that more that one lateral was leaking/broken? We'd like to see those pictures that they say shows any of this. It all still comes back to the metering valve not being placed in the correct place, therefore not working properly, and their negligence in fixing this problem. Had they fixed this valve and retested our system, it would not have failed and we would have not had to pay over $10,000 of unnecessary work. We would be glad to get a report from [redacted] of their conformation of their findings.

Response:

Foothill Sanitary is rejecting the response back from Ms. [redacted]. Our last reply answered all questions. Foothill Sanitary still stands firm on our findings. We do not agree with the statement from [redacted], if they in fact did make such a statement. This system was designed by a licensed Engineer, installed by a licensed Contractor and approved by the County and then the County gave a final in 2004. Foothill Sanitary will not be commenting in this forum anymore. Revdex.com does not understand septic systems. It does not all come down to the hydrotek valve. Leach field FAILED. Sincerely, [redacted] Owner Foothill Sanitary Septic
