Fort Hill Memorial Park Reviews (3)

My parents pre paid for cemetery plots in the Masonic Garden section of Fort Hill Memorial Park years ago. They already had the headstones and vaults in place when they took me there as a child in the 70's to show me how pretty it was there. They were proud of it.

My dad passed away three weeks ago (April 2015). We went to the cemetery and placed a flag on the grave that corresponded to my father's headstone with the cemetery representative, a few days prior to the graveside funeral service. A week after the service we received a call to let us know that my father was buried in the wrong place (my mother's space) and did we want them to move him? We asked that they just replace the headstone. When I asked if this happens a lot they replied that it happens from time to time. When I asked if the subcontractor who made the error had been spoken to about this grievous error... the rep was silent. I then asked if the people who had made the error were employees of the cemetery they said yes.

So I guess that's it, no big deal to them. I wanted to post this review to let everyone know what happened to us. I cannot imagine greater incompetence. Asking my mom a week after we buried her husband if it would be okay to move him is not ideal. We are hoping the new marker will actually arrive in 12 weeks and replace the original. The cemetery is not in the best shape anymore like it was when I was a kid. The sidewalk stones in the Masonic Gardens are coming apart and loose, the rock retaining wall on the drive in from Fort Avenue needs attention (mud and standing water in the road when it rains) and the office space is not in good shape. Really sad.

Review: Husband died 12/30/12, he was buried at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The cemetery asked me for 10 names and addresses of family & friends, plus to give them a picture of my late husband. They were going to send some book marks "supposedly" and some other stuff to the 10 names I listed. Also send me an inspirational picture with a verse on it to hang on the wall. They wanted me to pick out a verse and a background and I supplied them with a picture of my husband. It has been 9 months now and nothing. I have called numerous times and even retook the list and another picture out there back at the beginning of July 2013 to retry it again. They have told me it was corporates responsibility to get this done and send them out. I have tried to get them to give me their corporates phone number but they will not. I have spoke to several different people out there. Mainly [redacted], she is the one who helped me with all my needs when burying my husband. I just want them to fulfill their end of the deal and send what was promised. To me this is prolonging the grieving process of constantly thinking about this and wondering when is it going to come.Desired Settlement: For them to fulfill the deal they promised... Send out the bookmarks and whatever they were going to do, plus send out the picture with inspirational verse on it also to me...

The picture and the bookmarks have been completed and the bookmarks have been mailed out. The family has been contacted that the picture is ready for pickup.

Response:

I went by and picked up the picture with verse. They informed me that they hadnt made the bookmarks and I had to wait on them that they printed them on site. Then they gave me 5 and asked if that was ok. well why ask for 10 names, addresses etc if you are going to give me 5. So the girl printed 5 more... Why it took 9 mths to get something that was made on site, except for the picture with verse. They cant be this far behind with all their work.. Poor communication on their part, very dissatisfied with them

Review: We were told that we had to buy a second headstone in order to use the grave. We could not bury our Aunt until we bought this second headstone. She already had a headstone on the grave and they originally said it was a foot marker and could not be used. After we purchased this so called manditory headstone, they later tell us a year later after arguing with them that we did not have to purchase it. So we requested our money to be refunded. They still had not ordered the headstone after a year after purchasing it. The main issue is that we were given false information to make us buy something that we did not need.Desired Settlement: We want our money to be refunded. We have already consulted a lawyer about this issue and are willing to go to court if they do not refund our money of about $2500.00

Response:

I [redacted] at the time) met with [redacted] on October 20,2012

when he called and asked to have someone come out and review his mother's file and make sure she

has everything. Which at that point I sold him an opening and closing (cemetery Services) for his mother

[redacted] (contract #[redacted]) at that time he also explained to me that himself and his

wife were elected to take care of his aunt [redacted] and they wanted to know if she had everything as

well. At that time I called the office and told Mr and Mrs [redacted] that all she had was a space a vault

and a star ring vase. He then asked me if the vase was the same as what his mother had and I said no

she had a companion memorial with [redacted]; he then stated he wanted his aunts

memorial to be similar to his mother's but a single, I then explained to him we could also do his aunts at

this time and waive the 2nd processing fee, he said he wanted to take advantage of that as well

especially since we had 10% off at that time. So I sold him for [redacted] a open/close and a marker

(contract # [redacted] passed away April 1,2014 at which he stated he wanted to be

reimbursed for the marker because his sister [redacted] and Himself were having to take out loans and go

more in debt to pay for her funeral cost I explained to them that it has already been paid in full 2 yrs ago

and we do not do refunds past the 3 day cancellation period he received at the time of signing with his

contract in October of 2012. l also expressed my deepest sympathy for his aunts passing. After the

internment paper work was signed we then went down to the grave to mark the space and he

mentioned the star ring vase and stated that he thought the vase was good enough and didn't

understand if the marker wasn't down why we could not give him his money back so he could use that

to cover the funeral expenses, I then again explained the 3 day cancellation period. He said ok and left.

When he came back in for the funeral follow up his sister [redacted] and his other sister I do not recall her

name were very loud and upset stating l told him he HAD to purchase the memorial, of which I

explained that was not true and im not sure where they were getting that information because they

were not there at the time of sale; also that his grandparents (l believe was the relation to him) also had

a star ring only and they did not have to purchase a marker for him so he knew the regulations were not

a requirement to have a memorial and he wanted it similar to his mother [redacted]'s, she then stated

she was going to contact an attorney, at that point I let my manager know about the situation and she

called and spoke with him with [redacted] and myself present on speaker phone so there was a witness. I

have not heard or spoke to the family since that time.

Thank you,

Response:

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Her information is incorrect and I have already contacted a lawyer to pursue this issue. Thank you.
