Fort Pitt Classic Cars Reviews (28)

Dear Revdex.com, Fort Pitt continues an attempt at distraction from their inferior work, suspect business practices, and apparent price manipulation/gouging, by making inferences about my relationship with the initial shop that began the project Other than Fort Pitt steering me to allow them to "fix" some of the initial shop's work, little of it is relevant to the issues before you I will, however, share some historyRegarding shoddy workmanship, litigation, and payment to the previous shop; I was completely satisfied with the previous shop's quality of work I was unsatisfied with their forward progress on the project They made a time commitment to me they were unable to keep and were exceeding by months I served them with a demand letter to complete the project and return the vehicle They returned the vehicle and all parts without completing the project Unbeknownst to me the shop was having financial difficulties and was nearing closure when they surrendered my vehicle Tensions were high and they hastily said some things which caused me to wonder just what might happen Nothing came of it The shop ceased operations a few weeks later and skipped out on the building landlord in the middle of the night All work quality issues were raised by Fort Pitt, not me I asked Fort Pitt to document issues as a precautionary measure in the event of any litigation with the previous shop Again, nothing ever came of itMy account with the previous shop was settled in full in the amount of $4,for which the shop had completed the vast majority of body rust work They had replaced the core support with a genuine GM part, repaired the front body mounts, repaired the rear 1/panels, repaired the rocker panels, replaced the front fenders with brand new, replaced the tailgate with slightly used, fabricated, installed and properly welded a new rear cross member, and repaired a rear cab floor support I have attached "in progress" pictures of the work they completed (Progress 1-2-3, Core Support, and Cross member) I have also attached pictures of my vehicle as it appeared when removed from the original shop that started the project (Removal 1-2-3-4) These pictures were taken on January 28, about hours prior to the vehicle being delivered to Fort PittUpon delivery, I instructed Fort Pitt to provide me an estimate to refinish, paint, and reassemble the vehicle The vehicle, as pictured, would have started upon the very simple installation of the battery, which had been removed for charging, and the replacement of the serpentine belt tension pulley The initial shop acknowledged there was some air conditioner damage caused during the front core support replacement and they had included new replacement parts in the parts inventory returned to meThe vehicle was delivered to Fort Pitt on January 29, with no time constraints placed on thembecause the event I wanted to use the vehicle for was long pastFort Pitt's October 3, representation to Revdex.com of a "detailed proposal" they claim to have presented me as the original estimate is clearly an after-the-fact creation To state that this "detailed proposal" is what I was presented with is a complete fabrication I received a very generic email estimate from Fort Pitt in which prompted the suggestion by Fort Pitt of a conference call that never happened I suspect that the source information for their October 3, 2016, "detailed proposal" is the combined actual work performed by the shop that began the project, and Fort Pitt Unfortunately, I long ago deleted the estimate due to the appearance of triple charging, lack of detail, and excessive totalAt vehicle delivery to Fort Pitt on January 29, 2016, I requested that Fort Pitt provide me an estimate to refinish, paint, and reassemble the vehicle Instead, it seems they began a campaign to create work, up-sell a desperate and captive customer, and milk him for "phase" paymentsOnFebruary 5, I received from Fort Pitt the attached list titled "Body issues to handle in advance of painting" There are no estimated prices listedGetting to the issues at hand, the finish work is defective, the paint is defective, the air conditioner repair is defective, the electrical wiring was damaged, and other than the installation of a serpentine belt tension pulley and customer provided running boards, no engine, starter, or door lock work was authorized or requestedOn July 3, Fort Pitt presented me with an invoice totaling $21,(Copy previously provided) In Fort Pitt's September 7, response to Revdex.com they state that "The total cost of our work, including the additional repair work, was $18,538..." Which is it? I initially paid the grossly inflated $21,in full After discovering the numerous other deficiencies, in addition to the one I immediately pointed out upon vehicle pick up, and evaluating the quality and amount of work performed, I stopped payment on the final check of $4, Fort Pitt retains $16,for very little satisfactory work Fort Pitt charging even $18,for a project that was well over 50% completed by others leads one to believe that $17,was their target revenue regardless of the project's actual scope of work This raises a suspicion of bill padding or price gougingFort Pitt continues to exaggerate the work they performed to get the vehicle running and rework deficiencies they claim existed from the previous shop and also continues to minimize the glaring deficiencies in their own work in refinishing and painting to provide the "factory finish" I was sold They acknowledge defects in their paint, finish, and repair of the air conditioner, but they continue to deny damaging the electrical system Cutting off numerous wires and disabling the remote door lock system is damage plain and simple and has nothing to do with starting the vehicle and they were not employed nor authorized to work on the already functioning lock system Fort Pitt had the vehicle started and running the day after it was dropped off as is evidenced in their January 30, email I previously provided I find their portrayal of events deceptive And finally, Fort Pitt left completely untreated rust on the fender and hood which should have been addressed during the finishing process This rust is already staining into the finished areas I have attached picture of untreated fender rust which also shows paint bubbles in the finish at 7:and 1: (Picture1013161727) Photographs do not clearly capture other paint and finish defectsFort Pitt's misrepresentations, denials, and deceptions solidify my interest in terminating our relationshipWithout knowing what Fort Pitt is actually claiming is the final bill and to what number any "credit" would actually be applied the only firm and clear offer I've seen on the table is the one I advanced to Fort Pitt on August 5, 2016, which I now withdraw and offer the followingI am unable to quantify an amount to be refunded for unauthorized mechanical/electrical work and believe at least some of these costs may be "hidden" by inflating other authorized work but the only way to correct the defective finish and paint issues is to refinish and repaint the entire vehicle Fort Pitt should refund items C ($2,- refinish) and D ($4,- paint) from the 1-29-to 5-31-attached invoice totaling $7,in addition to the $they already offered for air conditioner repair for a grand total of $7, In exchange I will release Fort Pitt Classic Cars from all warranty claims Sincerely, [redacted] ***

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me Regards, [redacted]

April 18, 2016Re: Complaint ID [redacted] I am in receipt of the additional concerns of the customer received at our office on 4/5/2016, and herein provide a response. As previously stated, the subject vehicle was painted in our paint facility where we have painted a large number of Corvettes and other high quality vehicles, by individuals who have more than years of automobile painting experienceAs an illustration of the high quality of our paint work, we invite Mr [redacted] or any of his representatives to come to our facility and examine any or all of the several Corvettes and other brands of cars that we have painted. We acknowledge there are fixable blemishes in the paint of the customer's carAt no additional costs to the customer, the blemishes can be totally corrected by spot repair, section repaint or, if necessary, repainting the entire carThe defective transmission in the customer's car was not disclosed to us at drop offOnly after we called a few days later to report the issue was there an acknowledgement of the longstanding defect and instructions that the customer would take care of it themselves at a later dateIn addition, the customer declined two separate offers to repair the transmission for $prior to him picking up the car.Regarding the replacement of the windshield, we advised the customer the windshield that had been broken by a professional auto glass firm and that we would replace it at no costThe broken windshield was not original, likely being replaced due to the car being in a previous accident.Lastly, the customer was made aware of all extra charges to the contract and approved the supplemental work which resulted in a greater cost than the original estimate

February 24, 2016Re: Complaint ID ***I am in receipt of the referenced complaint dated 2/11/received at our office on 2/18/2016, and herein provide a response. The customer's car arrived to us in January, After taking possession, we noticed a problem with the transmission shifter and
advised the customerThe customer said it had been that way for yearsLater the problem got worseAgain we contacted the customer and offered to fix the problem at minimum costThe customer said , "No, *** and *** will fix the shifter problem." and agreed to pick up and take the car home with the problem. In the course of preparing the car for the painting process, several serious body problems were found that had to be repaired prior to paintingThese items included a damaged windshield pillar and window gutter, and cracks in the fiberglass body that were not evident until after the old paint was removedAfter painting, during the reassembly process, we found it was necessary to replace all deteriorated window gaskets, repair a non-functioning window gear system, and repair defective headlight mechanismAll of these repairs were documented, discussed with the owner, and approval was given to make the repairsEach of these problems caused the project timeline to be lengthened and the cost of the project to increase.Upon completion of our work, the owners came, inspected the car in a well lit area and took the car without paying the final invoice, saying he inadvertently 'left the checkbook at home'Subsequently, they complained about several minor paint issuesWe went to their home, verified their assertions that the defects in questions should be repaired and agreed to fix them at our expenseThey have yet to return the car or allow us to pick it up, choosing instead to damage our reputation via the Internet. At the beginning, the customer demanded the car be prepared as a 'daily driver' since they had planned to drive the car without concern for stone clips and other potential damage that might occur, and to keep the cost of repainting the car at a minimumThe car was repaired and painted in that lightCertainly at Fort Pitt Classic Cars, we know what it takes to repair and repaint a Corvette to meet and exceed the National Corvette Restoration Society (NCRS) standards as we have successfully completed several Corvettes at that levelThe cost for those projects is substantially more then what was agreed to in this case and at no time was there a requirement that this is a 'show quality' or NCRS level carThat being said, we acknowledge there are fixable blemishes in the paint of the carWe stand behind our work and our offer to rework the trouble spots at no additional cost to the customer.Respectfully submittedRonald L***, Owner & Manager

October 3, Revdex.com Holiday Drive, Suite Pittsburgh, PA Re: Complaint ID *** I am in receipt of the complaint of our customer received at our office on 9/22/2016, and herein submit our responseFirst and foremost, our warranty is Fort Pitt Classic Cars will correct any defect in our work at no cost to the customer in a prompt manner for a period of one (1) year from the date of such workThis offer has been made to the complaining customer on several occasions but he refuses to accept the offer even when we offered him a $2,credit which was the labor cost to paint his truckBackground: The customer first came to us in April of and requested an estimate to restore his Chevy BlazerAt that time we told him we were interested in the work but we had a large backlog and could not get to him for several monthsHe said he could wait since he only used the truck to go back and forth to workOf course we could not understand why he would want to restore a heavily rusted vehicle that had nearly 250,miles on itContrary to his comment that we provided a 'vague' quote, on May 1st of 2015, we gave him the following detailed proposal which explained we would restore his truck for a cost of $17,+ tax, and, as an alternative, we could purchase a rust-free body (which would eliminate considerable rust repair cost) and mount it on his truck frame for as much as $5,lessHere is the detailed proposal we sent to him *** Here is our estimate for the necessary repairs of your Blazer A) Repairs - Repair front clip to include radiator support, grille, hood and fenders - Repair rear body cross member - Repair body floor supports Repair both rear fenders (inner fenders clarification)- Repair front of each rear 1/panel- Repair lower part of each rear 1/panel- Repair each rocker panel- Repair TailgateTotal Parts Cost - $Total Labor Cost - $7280Total Repair Cost - Parts & Labor = $9676A) After the repair of the above areas, the areas will need to be refinished and primed. We expect the cost will be $including suppliesB) Following the refinishing, we will paint and buff the entire car.We expect the cost will be $plus $for paint and suppliesC) Following, we will reassemble the truck. We expect the cost will be $including suppliesTherefore we expect the total cost to repair, refinish, paint and reassemble the entire body will be $17,376As an alternative to repairing then refinishing the present body, we would ask you to consider purchasing a clean rust-free body at a possible cost of $4,- $5,000, The purchase of a clean, rust-free body would allow us to replace the entire body rather than spending $12,(A + B above) to repair and refinish the present body.Let me know your thoughts Thank youHe declined our offers and took his truck to another shop to have the work done. The complainant stated "Contrary to Fort Pitt's response claim, I was pleased with the other shop's work" yet in correspondence to Fort Pitt , the complainant said " Today I spoke with Joe about the shoddy workmanship performed by the previous body shop including but not limited to the failure to properly weld critical components, the "tumor" protruding from the passenger side, the failure to close or seal gaps in the replacement panels, and the sheet metal cover up of the body rail".The repair work required of Fort Pitt to correct the 'shoddy' work by the previous shop added nearly weeks to the work schedule and a cost of nearly $8,Further the complainant said to Fort Pitt " I believe the previous shop is going to try to sue me for more moneyI will counter sue for shoddy workmanship"This comments suggests the complainant did not pay the previous shop all of the money that they were due.Prior to starting the corrective work and the painting of the truck, Fort Pitt advised the complainant that the following work would be requiredThis work added significant cost and time to the project.Drivers side- Sand Primer at front fender- Repair Dents at lower half of door; DA upper half; disassemble as needed; tape and prime- Repair/replace Rocker panel; body work; prep and primer- Complete the welding of quarter panel; resurface bare metal; finish attaching wheel well Rear- Determine what is under patch panel- Complete attaching of quarter panel at inner lip- Weld rear cross member- Remove rear bumper in prep for painting- Prime and block sand- Remove tailgate lock then repair after paint Passenger Side- Unbolt front fender to install antenna & cable- Block sand front fender; prime for paint- Disassemble door as needed; Block sand door; prime for paint- Repair/replace Rocker panel; body work; prep and primer- Repair holes at quarter panel at inner wheel well & lip- Complete welding of Quarter Panel; resurface bare metal; finish attaching wheel well Front- Repair/Replace front valance- Remove front fender for paintingMechanical- Make truck run/drive- Install AC condenser line- ReAssemblePrior to as well as after painting the truck, we found it necessary to; repair the engine to get it to run, install a new battery, replace a defective starter, repair the driver's door hinges, repair components of the air conditioning system, install a fender antenna, and, at the request of the owner, install new running boardsAll of this required additional project time and additional cost.Contrary to the complainant's comment that Fort Pitt damaged the remote lock system, the fact is the system was not damaged just simply 'bypassed' in order to get the truck started.During the course of the project, Fort Pitt submitted invoices typically on a monthly basis for work that had been completed to that point in timeExcept for the final invoice which the complainant paid and then stop payment of his check, he had no complaints of the quality of the work or the amount of time it was taking to do the work properly. At this point it appears the major complaints of the customer is regarding some flaws in the painting of his truck and repair of his air conditioning control boxThat being the case, we will reiterate our earlier offer to credit the account of the customer by the amount we charged him for the labor to paint the truck ($2,992) and we will credit him $which he was charged for our earlier repair of his air conditioning systemThis total amount ($3,312) should clearly pay for any required labor to correct the paint imperfections and repair the air conditioning control box if he elects to have the minor issues corrected by another shop, otherwise we would be pleased to repair the issues without charge.Respectfully,Ronald L*** Owner

Dear Revdex.com:
I took my vehicle to Fort Pitt in early for an estimateFort Pitt returned a vague email with a quote of about $17,to repair the rusted body and frame membersWhen I pointed out that the estimate lacked sufficient detail and that Fort Pitt appeared to be triple billing for items Fort Pitt said they would set up a conference call with the body shop manager to explain the workFort Pitt never arranged that call and I later learned that the body shop manager was no longer employed by Fort PittAlthough there was initially a brief discussion about replacing the entire body I do not recall a documented estimate nor is it relevant to the current situation
Having not heard from Fort Pitt I contracted with another firm to make the repairsThe other firm (now defunct) had the vehicle from July 16, until January 28, The other firm performed the vast majority of the rusted metal repair including replacing the rear frame cross-member, repairing the rear cab support, replacing the front core support, replacing both left and right front fender inner and outer panels, replacing the rusted tailgate, and repairing the right rocker panelThe previous shop caused damage to the air conditioning system, however they did buy a replacement condenser and send it with the vehicle when it departedContrary to Fort Pitt's response claim, I was pleased with the other shop's work but they just were not able to complete the project in a timely fashionIt was Fort Pitt who was unhappy with their work and wanted to "correct" itemsI asked them to document what they had to in case I needed to go back on the previous shopIn the grand scheme of the project Fort Pitt had to rework a small percentage of the previous shop's work and my August 5, settlement counteroffer to Fort Pitt, mentioned later in this response, allowed for that work
The vehicle was delivered to Fort Pitt on January 29, Although Fort Pitt tries to make it sound like the vehicle would not run because it was in deplorable condition when delivered, the truth is that the only thing keeping the vehicle from running was the serpentine belt tensioning pulley had broken and the battery had been removed for chargingFort Pitt had the vehicle running on January 30, the day after delivery, after a very minor mechanical repair of the tensioning pulley which was authorized by me and replacement of the battery(Please see forwarded January email)
The plan agreed to on January was that Fort Pitt would remove and inventory all parts packed inside the vehicle by the previous shop and provide an estimate to paint and reassemble the vehicleOver the next few months I believe Fort Pitt employed a sales tactic known as "milking" to obtain "phase" payments while not providing the requested estimate for the complete jobFurthermore it is my opinion that they padded the bill in a "make work" scenario to result in presenting me with a bill for $21,on July 3, (Copy previously supplied) The July invoice for performing about 50% the project's work was over 20% higher than their estimate for 100% of project
On Sunday July 10, I picked up the vehicle about noonI immediately pointed out a defect in the hood paintFort Pitt said he hadn't seen that defect when he "went over the vehicle." I didn't want to impose by taking up Fort Pitt's Sunday time and was eager to get my vehicle out of their possession so I handed over the final payment and leftOn the drive home I noticed the air conditioner condensate was draining on the passenger floorI also notice when the air conditioner was placed in the "max" mode it made no difference in the operation indicating a problem
On Monday July 11, a local shop performed a PA State Inspection on the vehicleIn the late afternoon I went over the vehicle with the shop ownerAfter reviewing the defective body work I contacted my bank at approximately 6:PM to stop payment on the final check to Fort PittAt 8:PM July 11, 2016, approximately hour after stopping payment on the check and hours after picking up the vehicle I sent Fort Pitt an email (copy forwarded to you) informing them I stopped payment on the check and detailing some of the work deficienciesI informed him I had not received the "factory finish" he sold me
Fort Pitt's owner requested I meet with him and of his employees, one a bodyman and one painter, to go over the defects
That meeting took place on Thursday, July about 5:PMI took to the meeting the local PA inspection mechanic who was familiar with my vehicle in it's before and after conditionThe mechanic owns an automotive repair shop, is a body expert, and performs work on his personal, prize winning, carsWe presented the defects in quality and workmanship to Fort Pitt including but not limited to, dirt in the paint (especially the roof), paint runs, sand scratches, un-buffed areas, tape marks, unpainted body edges and un-sanded body puttyFort Pitt owner immediately assumed an adversarial stance of denial claiming that he had "seen cars come from the factory with finishes like that." When other specific items like untreated fender rust around the gas tank opening was pointed out the owner claimed "that's interior work and was not included in the scope of work."
After a lengthy, sometimes heated discussion, Fort Pitt acknowledged the vehicle “made it out the door” without being properly prepared and informed me that the painter who painted my vehicle was no longer with the company, as if that would bring me satisfactionFort Pitt then asked that I bring the vehicle back for them to work on for a few weeksI informed Fort Pitt that after them having my vehicle for months and returning this inferior quality of work I had no confidence that a several more weeks would make any difference in their productI was, and remain, very reluctant to give them another opportunity because of their initial adversarial and intimidating response of denialIn addition, during the discussion it was clear and actually stated by the bodyman that he really didn't want to see my vehicle in his shop againNaturally Fort Pitt now informs me that their employee will deny making that statement
Many times after Fort Pitt acknowledged their inferior work quality at the meeting I was asked what it would "take to make (me) happy." My answer was that I saw no point in them working on the vehicle any longer and that I was willing to pay an amount commensurate with the quality of work I received and terminate our relationshipFort Pitt rejected that thought
After making little progress in the hour meeting I stated that we were leavingAs I was sitting in my vehicle and about to close the door Fort Pitt's owner approached me and stated the following"Let me talk to my people tomorrow and I will spend the weekend working on a settlement and release offer and be in touch with you." I informed him I was open to that arrangement
After hearing nothing, I reached out to Fort Pitt on July 31, and received the email response I have forwarded
Finding Fort Pitt's July 31, response completely unacceptable I forwarded my counteroffer on August 5, (See August 5, email) I developed my counteroffer after showing the vehicle to another local shop owner who also was very familiar with my vehicle in before/after condition
It should be emphatically noted that Fort Pitt was not requested nor authorized to perform any work on the electrical system, remote starter, remote door locks, battery, starter, or engineNor were they included in the scope of work assigned, nor was I contacted prior to the work being performedAll systems were previously functionalThe previous shop never performed any electrical system work nor work inside the cabIt is acknowledged that the previous shop damaged the air conditioning condenser, and piping which leads to the evaporatorAll damage caused by the previous shop was confined to the engine compartment and was confined solely to the air conditionerI have personally repaired the remote lock wiring damage caused by Fort PittFort Pitt's charge to repair the air conditioner is not being disputed as that estimate was provided and approved prior to the workOnly the defects in the a/c repair are at issue here(Condensate leaking on the floor and "max" door not working) Fort Pitt was requested by me to install running boards which I purchased and had shipped directly to Fort Pitt
The opinion of professional body shop owners, of which I took to the meeting, is that in order to fix the paint and finish items to provide the "factory finish" Fort Pitt sold me would require Fort Pitt to strip the vehicle of body moldings, refinish, and repaint the whole vehicleConsidering the prior results, I strongly resist taking that adventureThe mechanical items still need to be repaired however I am no longer comfortable with Fort Pitt's work
Fort Pitt claims the work was completed in early JuneNot trueNumerous times Fort Pitt indicated the vehicle would be done after this or after that item was completed but I asked them to notify me when the vehicle was 100% complete and ready for pick upFort Pitt didn't notify me until June that work was complete and it was ready for pick up(See June email) This notification came just before I was leaving for vacation and I informed Fort Pitt I would like to pick the vehicle the first week of July which they approved with no storage charge
Regarding Fort Pitt's P.Sto their response regarding the tailgate torsion bar/amended complaint - The torsion bar was included in the parts inventory inside the truck at the time of delivery to Fort Pitt and their assignment was to paint and reassemble the vehicleJust like I didn't have to itemize each body part to be painted or each tail light, head light, grille, or body molding to be reassembled it is a given that the included tailgate torsion bar should have been painted and reassembled
Please advise if you require additional information
Sincerely, *** ***

September 7, 2016 Revdex.com 400 Holiday Drive, Suite 220 Pittsburgh, PA 15220 Re: Complaint ID [redacted] I am in receipt of the compliant of our customer received at our office on 8/29/2016, and herein provide the following response. Fort Pitt Classic Cars will correct any defect in our work at no cost to the customer in a prompt and complete manner for a period of one (1) year from the date of such work. This offer has been made to the complaining customer on several occasions but he refuses to accept the offer even when we offered to apply a credit to his account. Background: The customer first came to us in April of 2015 and requested we give him an estimate to restore his 1994 Chevy Blazer. At that time we told him we were interested in the work but we had a large backlog and could not get to him for several months. He said he could wait since the vehicle had nearly 250,000 miles on it and he was using it only as a daily work truck. On May 1st of 2015, we advised him our estimate to restore the truck with the original body would be $17,376 + tax however we could purchase a rust-free body for him and put in on his truck frame for $5,000 less. He declined our offers and took his truck to another shop to have the work done. At the end of January 2016 he again contacted us and advised that the other shop had done a very poor and incomplete job and he wanted to bring the truck to us to continue the restoration of his truck as we had originally proposed however by this time, the truck was not running, the air conditioner and other parts of the truck had been damaged by the other shop, and the body work done by the other shop was unacceptable and needed to be redone. Within a couple of weeks we had the truck running again and started the repair of the work done by the previous shop. By the end of May, we had completed the initial body work that had been requested as well as some of the additional work that included engine work, replacing a defective starter, replacing a defective battery, installing running boards, repairing the defective air conditioning system, and made an attempt to repair a defective remote start/door locking system. The total cost of our work, including the additional repair work, was $18,538 - slightly more than our initial estimate a year before for only the body work and without the additional scope of work.Although the work was completed early in June, the customer delayed his pickup of the truck until early July. At that time he looked over the vehicle, checked a few things out, gave us a check for the remaining balance due, and drove the truck home.Sometime later, without notice, he advised he had immediately stopped payment on the check that he had given us. He claimed there were some quality issues with the work that we had done. We quickly responded and advised him we would take care of all issues in a prompt and complete manner without cost to him. We agreed to meet to review the issues.During the review, we found there were some issues that were apparently missed before the truck left our shop but they could easily be taken care of. We again offered to take care of all issues without any cost to him.For several weeks we communicated back and forth by email without any progress. On August 20th, we enhanced our offer to him which would have given him a $2992 credit toward the outstanding balance he owes if he would allow us to correct all of the issues that he had claimed. On August 25th he declined our enhanced offer. We stand behind our warranty to repair any issues with our work for a period of one year and remain ready to resolve any and all issues with our work that we did for this customer.RespectfullyRon S. L[redacted], OwnerPS: Regarding the amended complaint by the customer, we find it necessary to comment that the subject tailgate torsion bar was never part of our assigned scope of work. The disassembly was done by the former shop and we were not requested to reassemble or paint that part.

Our response to the recent letter dated March 16, 2016 from
Fort Pitt Classic Cars, Ron L.
Our vehicle was painted in their paint facility (not paint
booth) two different times by someone at that company.  The individual with more than fifteen years
experience did NOT paint our vehicle.
Someone with no experience painted it and it shows.  We know for a fact that Ron L. was looking to
hire two people for his shop.  An AutoTechnician/apprentice
and a Body Shop Manager.  He also wanted
to hire a full time auto restoration Automobile Painter at the same time period
our vehicle was supposed to be given a good paint job.The corvette does NOT have fixable blemishes on the paint
the whole car needs to be taken down to its fiberglass and totally repainted by
some who knows what they are doing. We have had this car looked at and that is
what we were told.  Furthermore, their
offer of a blemish free correction is not possible without redoing the whole
vehicle.  Did I mention that I have had this 67 corvette for 40 years!!  And now I find it hard to look at now. Fort Pitt Classic Cars did not notify us after the initial
drop off.  We were aware the vehicle had
a small problem, and did mention it to FPCC.
We know that the car was driven by numerous individuals and made the
small problem a bigger problem.  There
was proof that they were looking at the issue of the transmission because the
shifter booth was totally ripped open and upon having the transmission repaired
by us, a screw was found inside the transmission upon repair.  This screw was not in there prior to us
leaving the vehicle with FPCC. It was  dropped or put there while at this shop.As far as a proposal solicited from another individual to
repaint the car and create a #2 quality repaint is not to be determined by
FPCC.  We paid FPCC $14,838.36 in full
prior to getting the vehicle back and expected a quality paint job after
leaving it with them for almost 9 months.
They broke our original windshield and lied about what happened.  We were told that the windshield had broken
when they tried to put it back in after painting, and then were told that they
laid the windshield on the floor for the night and in the morning it was found
broken. Two paint jobs were applied because they were trying to cover up something
and then they added another $5,495 for multiple unknown charges. We remain unready to deliver our vehicle to FPCC for another
unprofessional paint job.  We want our
car painted by a professional who knows what they are doing and not deal with all
the turmoil that FPCC has caused us.
They DO NOT provide quality work at least not in our case and we are not
happy with what we have been delivered.
Bad paint, bad installation of new weather stripping around the vent
windows and doors the old stripping was a better quality than the new that they
installed, which looked like it was done by someone not familiar with doing
that type of work. The window pillar that was repaired by them, incorrectly, needs
to be redone by someone with the  knowledge and professional workmanship .That
is why the windshield broke when they tried to replace it.  Plus FPCC claims that they repaired
everything at their cost, this is not true.
They want us to pay for things that were not requested by us and things
that were ordered not for our use.  They
need to prove the restorations and expenditures that they have supposedly done
that meet NCRS standards, it’s a lieWe cannot accept another unprofessional paint job from FPCC. As a solution to all of this, should FPCC amicably agree to
a financial arrangement! We would suggest that they (FPCC) agree to return all
of our money that we have paid to them. Again I want to mention that our
vehicle has been devalued by (FPCC) - $22,000 as stated by a professional and
trustworthy painter.  If this is agreed
too, we would remove any complaints made on YELP and any further business with
FPCC, that could possibly devalue FPCC in the future. For information on this complaint and pictures, please feel
free to look at [redacted]/Fort Pitt Classic Cars and now the Revdex.com of Pennsylvania at
your convenience. We want to thank the Revdex.com of PA for allowing us to hopefully get help and get to the bottom of  this dilemma.Regards,[redacted]

Regarding: complaint ID [redacted]I am responding by snail mail because I couldn't enter the proper page on your website. There was a problem, then I was able to enter but I couldn't send the response. So I decided to do it by mail.I am hoping this is the last time we need to correspond with Fort Pitt Classic Cars.We are so done with this company. We are ready to have our information posted on Revdex.com website. In response to FPCC last communication dated April 18, 2016.Our vehicle, 1967 Corvette Stingray was painted (butchered) at FPCC paint facility twice, once in March of 2015 and the second time in July of 2015. We do not know for sure why they insisted on painting it the second time, but can only guess that the first one was a mess as was the second one. Now to make things worse they have offered to paint it again, or touch it up to correct the "blemishes" by spot repair, section repaint or if necessary the entire car. We will not release our vehicle to FPCC ever again. Be warned they did one/two horrible paint jobs. These blemishes consist of chips, sags, scratches, dirt under the paint, too thin or too thick painted areas and areas that were buffed and rubbed down to bare fiberglass and for this we paid almost $15,000 and to make matters worse they billed us for an extra $5400. for supplemental work as they called it. These charges were reviewed by an expert and we were told that they overbilled us for more paint, clear, putty to paint three more cars and numerous other items.FPCC said we dropped off our 67 Vette and did not disclose a defective transmission. There was no problem with the transmission, we drove that car for 30+ yrs and it ran perfectly. But they of course offered to repair it for another $450. We declined and had it repaired elsewhere, which upon repair a screw came tumbling out of the transmission. We only had 3rd gear to drive it home. Also, they broke our windshield after removing it for the initial paint job, then they lied and said it was placed on the floor of the shop and when they came in the morning after it was broken. They also lied and said it broke when they tried to put it back in. They replaced the weather stripping and butchered that job where there were gaps with no stripping and replaced it with the cheapest grade they could get. They broke off a wheel stud and said they would replace it! They did replace it but they neglected to put the lug nut back on and we drove it home without the lug nut. Dangerous!!We need the public to know that this company is bad news. Take your vehicles to be painted and repaired elsewhere. Do yourself a favor and BEWARE!!P.S. [redacted] thank you for speaking with me 2 wks ago and contacting the company for a final response. I am hoping that our information above will make it to your website as a warning to others to be aware of what this company is doing. We didn't and don't deserve to be treated like this. Thanks again [redacted]

March 16, 2016 Re: Complaint ID [redacted] I am in receipt of the additional concerns of the customer dated 2/29/2016 received at our office on 3/4/2016, and herein provide a response. The vehicle was painted in our paint facility where we have painted a large number of Corvettes and other high quality vehicles by an individual with more than 15 years of automobile painting experience. However, we acknowledge that there are fixable blemishes on the paint of the customer's car and, again, we offer to correct those blemishes in a timely manner without charge to the customer. Regardless of the amount of work required, we are committed to providing the customer with satisfaction and a blemish-free paint job according to the original contract which was for a driver quality vehicle (i.e. not a show car or NCRS level). Further, through the customer's attorney, we have offered to allow the customer to take the car after our correction of the blemishes without paying the balance of their invoice in the event the customer is not satisfied with the quality of our work. In addition to the contracted payments, the customer made several payments to pay for repairs and replacement parts that were out of scope of the initial estimate. In each case, the customer was made aware of the necessary supplemental repair and gave approval prior to any work being performed. This is a fairly frequent occurrence in restoration projects and this possibility was called out in the original contract. The outstanding balance of $5,495 is for work that was all approved by the customer in accordance with the contract. Further, the customer was not charged any extra labor or material cost for the painting of his car beyond the amount he approved in the original contract. In regards to the transmission, the customer was notified soon after his initial drop off of the car to us that there was a problem with the transmission. The customer acknowledged their awareness of the problem, but declined to have us repair it for $450. At that time and then again a few days before the customer picked up the car, the customer said 'he and his son would repair it when they got the car home'.The proposal the customer solicited from another individual to repaint the car is within reason and, if done as presented, should produce, " a #2 quality repaint per industry standards, and should equate to a nice local show car" as that individual has stated. We made a similar proposal to the customer at the beginning our discussions with the customer but that offer was immediately rejected by the customer, strongly stating then, and on several occasions thereafter, 'We don't want a show car. We want to drive our car and not have to worry about it.' As we continue to state, we remain ready to resolve the issues with the customer. Our team has the skills and experience to provide quality work for this customer as we have provided to our other customers for many years.Respectfully,Ronald L[redacted] Owner & Manager

Dear Revdex.com, Fort Pitt continues an attempt at distraction from their inferior work, suspect business practices, and apparent price manipulation/gouging, by making inferences about my relationship with the initial shop that began the project.  Other than Fort Pitt steering me to allow them to "fix" some of the initial shop's work, little of it is relevant to the issues before you.  I will, however, share some history. Regarding shoddy workmanship, litigation, and payment to the previous shop; I was completely satisfied with the previous shop's quality of work.  I was unsatisfied with their forward progress on the project.  They made a time commitment to me they were unable to keep and were exceeding by 5 months.  I served them with a demand letter to complete the project and return the vehicle.  They returned the vehicle and all parts without completing the project.  Unbeknownst to me the shop was having financial difficulties and was nearing closure when they surrendered my vehicle.  Tensions were high and they hastily said some things which caused me to wonder just what might happen.  Nothing came of it.  The shop ceased operations a few weeks later and skipped out on the building landlord in the middle of the night.   All work quality issues were raised by Fort Pitt, not me.  I asked Fort Pitt to document issues as a precautionary measure in the event of any litigation with the previous shop.  Again, nothing ever came of it. My account with the previous shop was settled in full in the amount of $4,611.97 for which the shop had completed the vast majority of body rust work.  They had replaced the core support with a genuine GM part, repaired the front body mounts, repaired the rear 1/4 panels, repaired the rocker panels, replaced the front fenders with brand new, replaced the tailgate with slightly used, fabricated, installed and properly welded a new rear cross member, and repaired a rear cab floor support.  I have attached 5 "in progress" pictures of the work they completed.  (Progress 1-2-3, Core Support, and Cross member) I have also attached 4 pictures of my vehicle as it appeared when removed from the original shop that started the project.  (Removal 1-2-3-4)  These pictures were taken on January 28, 2016 about 18 hours prior to the vehicle being delivered to Fort Pitt. Upon delivery, I instructed Fort Pitt to provide me an estimate to refinish, paint, and reassemble the vehicle.  The vehicle, as pictured, would have started upon the very simple installation of the battery, which had been removed for charging, and the replacement of the serpentine belt tension pulley.  The initial shop acknowledged there was some air conditioner damage caused during the front core support replacement and they had included new replacement parts in the parts inventory returned to me. The vehicle was delivered to Fort Pitt on January 29, 2016 with no time constraints placed on thembecause the event I wanted to use the vehicle for was long past. Fort Pitt's October 3, 2016 representation to Revdex.com of a "detailed proposal" they claim to have presented me as the original estimate is clearly an after-the-fact creation.  To state that this "detailed proposal" is what I was presented with is a complete fabrication.  I received a very generic email estimate from Fort Pitt in 2015 which prompted the suggestion by Fort Pitt of a conference call that never happened.  I suspect that the source information for their October 3, 2016, "detailed proposal" is the combined actual work performed by the shop that began the project, and Fort Pitt.  Unfortunately, I long ago deleted the 2015 estimate due to the appearance of triple charging, lack of detail, and excessive total. At vehicle delivery to Fort Pitt on January 29, 2016, I requested that Fort Pitt provide me an estimate to refinish, paint, and reassemble the vehicle.  Instead, it seems they began a campaign to create work, up-sell a desperate and captive customer, and milk him for "phase" payments. OnFebruary 5, I received from Fort Pitt the attached list titled "Body issues to handle in advance of painting".  There are no estimated prices listed. Getting to the issues at hand, the finish work is defective, the paint is defective, the air conditioner repair is defective, the electrical wiring was damaged, and other than the installation of a serpentine belt tension pulley and customer provided running boards, no engine, starter, or door lock work was authorized or requested. On July 3, 2016 Fort Pitt presented me with an invoice totaling $21,106.98. (Copy previously provided)  In Fort Pitt's September 7, 2016 response to Revdex.com they state that "The total cost of our work, including the additional repair work, was $18,538..."  Which is it?  I initially paid the grossly inflated  $21,106.98 in full.   After discovering the numerous other deficiencies, in addition to the one I immediately pointed out upon vehicle pick up, and evaluating the quality and amount of work performed, I stopped payment on the final check of $4,602.91.  Fort Pitt retains $16,504.17 for very little satisfactory work.  Fort Pitt charging even $18,538 for a project that was well over 50% completed by others leads one to believe that $17,300 was their target revenue regardless of the project's actual scope of work.  This raises a suspicion of bill padding or price gouging. Fort Pitt continues to exaggerate the work they performed to get the vehicle running and rework deficiencies they claim existed from the previous shop and also continues to minimize the glaring deficiencies in their own work in refinishing and painting to provide the "factory finish" I was sold.  They acknowledge defects in their paint, finish, and repair of the air conditioner, but they continue to deny damaging the electrical system.  Cutting off numerous wires and disabling the remote door lock system is damage plain and simple and has nothing to do with starting the vehicle and they were not employed nor authorized to work on the already functioning lock system.  Fort Pitt had the vehicle started and running the day after it was dropped off as is evidenced in their January 30, 2016 email I previously provided.  I find their portrayal of events deceptive.   And finally, Fort Pitt left completely untreated rust on the fender and hood which should have been addressed during the finishing process.  This rust is already staining into the finished areas.  I have attached 1 picture of untreated fender rust which also shows paint bubbles in the finish at 7:00 and 1:00.  (Picture1013161727)  Photographs do not clearly capture other paint and finish defects. Fort Pitt's misrepresentations, denials, and deceptions solidify my interest in terminating our relationship. Without knowing what Fort Pitt is actually claiming is the final bill and to what number any "credit" would actually be applied the only firm and clear offer I've seen on the table is the one I advanced to Fort Pitt on August 5, 2016, which I now withdraw and offer the following. I am unable to quantify an amount to be refunded for unauthorized mechanical/electrical work and believe at least some of these costs may be "hidden" by inflating other authorized work but the only way to correct the defective finish and paint issues is to refinish and repaint the entire vehicle.  Fort Pitt should refund items C ($2,927.50 - refinish) and D ($4,116.81 - paint) from the 1-29-16 to 5-31-16 attached invoice totaling $7,044.31 in addition to the $320 they already offered for air conditioner repair for a grand total of $7,364.31.  In exchange I will release Fort Pitt Classic Cars from all warranty claims.  Sincerely, [redacted]

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

29 February 2016ID #[redacted]Dear Sir/Madam,I would like to open with: our vehicle was painted in a warehouse atmosphere and NOT in a paint booth. We thought that when we hired Fort Pitt Classic Cars to paint our vehicle it would be done in a professional environment by professionals. What we hired were incompetent people with no experience in what they advertise. To our dismay we received a $15,000 paiht/repair job on a '67 Classic corvette that is worse off now than when we delivered it to the business. We delivered our vehicle 02 January 2015, and were originally told our price would be $11,385. + taxes. With the delivery we paid $2,000 up front to get the work started. On January 28th they asked for another $2336.18, and again on Feb. 8th $1,320, and on Feb 12th $3869.03 and on March 13, $5313.15 for a grand total of $14,838.36. We paid all this up front and before the jobs were completed. After 8 months of patiently waiting and exchanging emails we began to suspect something was wrong. We found out that the car was painted in March and then they wanted to paint it again in July. They lied about removing the windows to paint the car, they lied about many things and we trusted them. We trusted them to do a decent job and that is not what we received. We wanted our car back! So late August early September we said enough is enough we want our car now. So we went to pick it up and they presented it to us in a dimly lit area which we couldn't see the bad paint job that was lurking in that unlit area. By email they presented us with another bill for $5495 in addition to the $14,838.36 for the 2nd paint job and extra materials.FPCC sent three employees to our home to view the vehicle and they came to the conclusion that the car did indeed need repainting and they would send a trailer to tow our vehicle back down to their location and paint 2/3 of the car. We were advised to not let them take the car and we did not want them to repaint the vehicle for the 3rd time. Why would we have them paint it again when they couldn't do a proper job the first two times? This is ludicrous! The quality control of FPCC is poor and the car should have not been released in its current condition. And furthermore if FPCC believes they are qualified with the NCRS, we can and will have them judge the car for the quality and standard that go with that label. We asked for a good paint job and did not by any means receive what we paid for. They scratched the windows with buffers, scratched and nicked the paint, painted over dirt and sags are noted all over. They replaced rubber gaskets and charged us for the materials which if done properly would have been ok. But the replaced gaskets were cut short and replaced like someone who doesn't know what they were doing. Upon receiving our keys to remove our vehicle from this business, we were told to not use 1st and 2nd gear and reverse as the transmission would lock up and not be able to drive. Our son drove it home in 3rd gear. Not sure what they did to it there but upon getting it back home and getting it repaired, a screw was found in the transmission. The boot around the shifter was totally destroyed by one of their workers. This transmission fix cost us several more hundred dollars to repair. This whole charade makes us sick to look at this vehicle now with great sadness. Ron L. proudly says that he works with older adults and helps them with their prized vehicles. We totally disagree with this. We have owned this vehicle for over 30 years and finally in our golden years would have it painted and enjoy some fun time with it. Not in this case, it sits in the garage and just creates much sadness for us. We saved for this and for what, our money be tossed in the garbage. We are so disappointed in what they have done to us and we trusted them.Enclosed is a copy of an estimate we acquired to have this vehicle repaired and repainted by a professional who knows how to get the job done right. Also attached please review the copy of the inconsistencies found on the invoice which was presented to us for the $5495.Thank you.[redacted]PLEASE WARN CONSUMERS OF THIS BUSINESS. THEY ARE NOT PROFESSIONAL IN THEIR BUSINESS AND WORK ETHICS AND FALSE ADVERTISING. We learned the hard way.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.Received business response. In my original complaint I stated I contracted (signed contract) in December 2015. It was December 2014. I stated I received car back late October 2015. I got the car back the 1st time, September 23rd, not October. I apologize for the errors. I did not intend to misrepresent the timeline. I have received most of the parts receipts and now know most of the parts installed, so now can move forward with corrections. I was overcharged on some, undercharged on some, double charged for some parts and not charged for some parts. Assuming I find no major surprise with the final receipt, we can most likely move on and I will consider it all a valuable lesson. I have decided not to even respond to the many untruths in the business' responses, most of which I have e-mail correspondence to prove untrue. It is clear the owner will say anything to try to protect his business. The only thing I will mention is the ridiculous response regarding the steering column bracket. I have attached a picture. No other words are necessary. Please submit to me a copy of the receipt from [redacted] Mustang for 300.00

February 15, 2016 Re: Complaint ID [redacted] I am in receipt of the referenced complaint dated 2/2/2016 and herein provide a response. The complainant first contacted my company in November 2014 not December 2015 as he stated to upgrade the steering and brakes of his 66 Mustang. His car was not...

delivered to us until late April (due to the weather) and the car was returned to him in mid-September not late October as he has stated. Throughout the upgrade of his car we kept him up to date by email and photographs of the work in process. Due to a large number of defects of his car that were unrelated to the proposed initial work but had to be addressed, we recognized the cost of the upgrade and repairs was going to be substantially greater than the initial upgrade estimate. On July 12th we advised the customer it was necessary to change the supplier for some parts to be installed on his car to reduce the total cost and offset the work for the additional, unplanned repairs. In the end, the total cost for the upgrade was 23% higher than the original budget in spite of the fact that we achieved the initial contracted scope or work at a lesser cost than originally proposed. We expected the customer was pleased with all the work since he promptly paid the invoice and reported on October 8th that 'he had put some miles on the car' and was satisfied except for the turning radius. As we were requested to keep the costs at a minimum, we did put a spacer on the wheel to gain space between the present wheel and the newly installed brake caliper. However the spacer could have been eliminated with the added cost to purchase new 14" wheels with a greater 'offset' or purchase 15" wheels - either of those options would have greatly increased the cost significantly. Those options are still available to the owner on his own. The complainant commented about a fabricated item in the steering column. He should understand that item was necessary to allow the steering column to be removable if necessary in the future otherwise it could have been permanently welded. To satisfy the complainant's request for a listing of parts and to satisfy that he was not charged more than 115% of our parts and supply cost, I have attached a link to a file that presents a complete listing with costs of the parts used in the repair and upgrade of his car and a copy of all of the parts receipts/invoices. This listing is more detailed than the parts list we provided to the complainant on October 12th. An analysis of the parts cost to the billed cost will clearly show that overhead markup was significantly less than 15% at was allowed. Finally, I must apologize that our work was not done as promptly as we had expected primarily due to our Mustang specialist not being able to work full time as he was recovering from triple bypass surgery - a fact of which the customer was aware.Regardless, we have attached the final invoice for the repair and upgrade work that shows that we provided a 10% discount to the customer as consolation for the delay in not completing the upgrade as quickly as he had desired.Respectfully submitted,Ron L[redacted], Owner and Manager

April 18, 2016Re: Complaint ID [redacted]I am in receipt of the additional concerns of the customer received at our office on 4/5/2016, and herein provide a response. As previously stated, the subject vehicle was painted in our paint facility where we have painted a large number of Corvettes and other high quality vehicles, by individuals who have more than 15 years of automobile painting experience. As an illustration of the high quality of our paint work, we invite Mr. [redacted] or any of his representatives to come to our facility and examine any or all of the several Corvettes and other brands of cars that we have painted. We acknowledge there are fixable blemishes in the paint of the customer's car. At no additional costs to the customer, the blemishes can be totally corrected by spot repair, section repaint or, if necessary, repainting the entire carThe defective transmission in the customer's car was not disclosed to us at drop off. Only after we called a few days later to report the issue was there an acknowledgement of the longstanding defect and instructions that the customer would take care of it themselves at a later date. In addition, the customer declined two separate offers to repair the transmission for $450 prior to him picking up the car.Regarding the replacement of the windshield, we advised the customer the windshield that had been broken by a professional auto glass firm and that we would replace it at no cost. The broken windshield was not original, likely being replaced due to the car being in a previous accident.Lastly, the customer was made aware of all extra charges to the contract and approved the supplemental work which resulted in a greater cost than the original estimate.
